Chapter 89: The League of Wealthy Avengers
Wang Zixuan said, “You keep beating around the bush with all these questions. What is it you really want to ask?”
Hao Yingjun replied, “What I mean is, there’s a saying: all anger comes from one’s own incompetence. But of course, that doesn’t apply to you, big sister. You’re a special case.”
Wang Zixuan cut in, “Okay, okay, get to the point.”
Hao Yingjun continued, “I think the suspects in these cases—the goose spirits—have something in common. Look, that chubby guy who got chased was wearing a Rolex. The car that got trashed was one of a thousand limited editions worldwide. The old man who was attacked made tens of millions from the demolition. And the guy with the Bentley is a well-known rich heir in M City. So, their motive must be resentment toward the wealthy.”
As he spoke, Hao Yingjun used a tablet to explain each case to them in turn.
Wang Zixuan mused, “Huafu, Huating—plus, all the attacks happened in Mingyue Bay.”
Hao Yingjun nodded, “So I have a little suggestion, not fully formed yet. We should try to lure the culprit out.”
After dinner, they were busy until nightfall, transforming Hao Yingjun into the picture of a nouveau riche. He drove a limited-edition Ferrari straight to the Mingyue Bay underground garage.
As soon as he parked, Hao Yingjun spoke to Wang Zixuan through his Bluetooth headset. “Sister, look at this setup! Is our supermarket making this much money?”
Wang Zixuan replied, “Supermarket, my foot. I paid for everything or rented it.”
Hao Yingjun laughed, “Who would have thought you were an heiress! You'd better be careful—a goose might come after you next. You could be their next target.”
Wang Zixuan warned, “That cost me half a month’s snack money. If you don’t draw them out, just wait till we get home and see how I deal with you. Focus on showing off your wealth.”
With that, Hao Yingjun got out of the car in a flourish, showing off his chunky gold chain and flashy watch in the most ostentatious manner, swaggering around with a walk that said he had no friends. He slowly pulled out his phone.
“Hello, Xiao Gu? Remember that villa I asked you to reserve last time? Did you save it for me? Of course it has to be cash. Hurry up, don’t waste my time, all right? All my money’s here, it’s all in the car. I said it has to be cash! Ha, get someone down here to meet me right away.”
He made the call for a while, then hung up, feeling it was enough. He began to keep a lookout. As he turned to survey the area, a goose suddenly launched itself from a hidden corner straight at Hao Yingjun’s backside. Just as it was about to strike, Wang Zixuan stepped out from her hiding place and grabbed the goose by the neck.
“So it was you,” Wang Zixuan said.
The goose struggled fiercely, flapping and thrashing, trying to escape.
“Hold still. Settle down,” Wang Zixuan commanded.
Hao Yingjun grinned, “That’s that, problem solved.”
Meanwhile, in a shabby little shack atop a high-rise by the Yuan River, a deep voice grumbled, “Things are so tense, and he still dares go out. He’s asking for trouble, you know? Last time, it was his outburst that exposed us.”
Just then, the door was violently kicked open. Wang Zixuan and Hao Yingjun strode in boldly.
With perfect coordination, they called out, “Investigation from Supermarket No. 444!”
All the geese in the room turned to stare at the doorway.
Wang Zixuan declared, “Give yourselves up. Don’t hesitate. Your accomplice has already revealed everything about the Rich Avenger Alliance.”
A high-pitched goose retorted, “Don’t listen to her! They have no evidence!”
