Chapter 87: All for the Sake of Work
Wang Zixuan grabbed Qin Li by the collar and growled fiercely, “It’s clearly you in the video. You’re not getting away this time.” With that, she shoved Qin Li aside without another glance. At this point, Wang Zixuan was so furious she could have killed him. Why did every case have to be such a headache? She was starting to feel helpless—not because the opposition was too strong, but simply because her subordinates were so useless. Was she supposed to deal with everything herself every single time?
Qin Li muttered, “There you go again, cursing. So crude. Utterly intolerable.”
Hearing this, Wang Zixuan moved to hit him, making Qin Li jump in alarm.
“Hey, hey, hey, that’s not fair! I’m not playing with you anymore. Goodbye!” Qin Li waved his hand and bolted out of the room.
At that moment, Hao Yingjun couldn’t hold back and asked, “Big Sis, can I ask you something? Under what circumstances do you usually curse at people?”
Wang Zixuan shouted, “Right now, I really want to curse at someone!”
She gathered everyone together for another meeting. She simply refused to believe she couldn’t handle Qin Li. He wasn’t above the law.
Wang Zixuan declared, “That Qin Li—there’s definitely, absolutely, and unquestionably something wrong with him.”
Xiao Deng asked, “Why does it have to be him?”
Wang Zixuan replied, “Even if he didn’t do it himself, it must have been those stray geese he keeps around. No way they’re not involved.”
After hearing this, everyone just looked at each other in silence, unsure how to respond.
Wang Zixuan continued, “Oh, right. Maybe those stray geese are actually goose spirits. I get it now—they’re all covering for each other!”
Gu Weimin, the manager of Supermarket 444, interjected, “Don’t be so jumpy all the time. Do you have any evidence?”
“Not yet,” Wang Zixuan admitted. “If I did, I’d have arrested them already. That’s why I called everyone here—to brainstorm. But maybe we can use the revealing instant camera, check everyone’s true identity one by one. I’m sure we’ll find out the truth.”
Zhou Ning spoke up, “Speaking of the revealing instant camera, Wang Zixuan, you didn’t get my signature for approval before using it this time, did you?”
Hao Yingjun quickly said, “Ahem, Sister Zhou, that was my fault. Next time, I’ll make sure to get your signature, I promise.”
Zhou Ning retorted, “Oh, you think there’ll be a next time? You went through more than ten sheets of photo paper on just one outing. We only get thirty sheets a month. You don’t think we have to beg for office supplies every month? Every time I go there, it’s humiliating. Wang Zixuan, you’ve got a friend in the equipment department, don’t you? How about you go ask for more supplies next month?”
Wang Zixuan protested, “Friend? We haven’t been in touch for over twenty years. It’s not appropriate for me to ask him for a favor over this.”
Zhou Ning teased, “Now you’re embarrassed to ask, huh?”
Gu Weimin tried to keep the peace, “Let’s stop arguing. The Investigation Center and Supermarket 444 are two different departments, but we’re all on the same team, all working towards the same goal. Harmony is important, right, Zixuan? But your idea—it’s just not very practical.”
Wang Zixuan suggested, “Then how about this? Pull up all the profiles on goose spirits. Then have each goose spirit record a curse word. We can do an audio comparison and match the voice. Surely that will work. Are you satisfied now?”
Gu Weimin shook his head, “That won’t do either. Last time you made the fox spirits do a breath test, and I’ve been covering up for that incident. I can barely keep it under wraps.”
Wang Zixuan responded, “Like you said, I was just doing my job. Why don’t you send someone else to investigate? See if they can do any better.”
