Chapter 83: The Goose's Assault
After finishing up with Xiao Deng, he went to the investigation center to find Zhou Ning.
Hao Yingjun said, “The ultimate snack tool for lazy people. Double-layered design: snacks on top, shells and trash below. You can even slot your phone in—snack and binge videos at the same time. Who could be happier living life like this? Haha.”
Zhou Ning replied, “Working hard, are you? Out with it—what do you want?”
Hao Yingjun hurriedly stood up, offering his seat to Zhou Ning. “As an intern, it’s only right to show a little initiative, isn’t it?”
Zhou Ning shot back, “Not here to ask me for something, right?”
Hao Yingjun laughed, “Oh, come on! It’s nothing major.”
Zhou Ning shook her head. “Ha, I knew it. You’re like a weasel wishing the chickens a happy new year.”
Hao Yingjun grinned, “Sis, don’t talk about yourself like that.”
After chatting with Zhou Ning for quite a while, he managed to retrieve a stack of files nearly as tall as a person. The team, including Xiao Deng, was meeting in the conference room. Hao Yingjun went straight in.
He said, “Big Sis, these are the files I got from Zhou. All unresolved cases from the past three years. Maybe you could assign a few to help us bump up our performance rating?”
Wang Zixuan replied, “Ha, so I’m supposed to pick them myself? Then what are you all here for? Aren’t you supposed to be running this supermarket?”
Xiao Deng dashed over, laughing. “Haha, it’s tough work. Let me help!”
Hao Yingjun waved him off. “No, no, no, Deng. Don’t trouble yourself. Sis is right—this is all my responsibility. Really, it’s no trouble at all. Haha.”
Wang Zixuan declared, “Well, now that everyone with nothing to do is here, let’s start the meeting.”
With that, she switched on the projector. A news report flickered onto the screen.
The anchor said, “Welcome back. Let’s get into the next segment of Morning Light News. Recently, city authorities have received a surge of reports from residents. It seems there have been incidents of geese attacking people in upscale communities like Mingyue Bay, Huafu, and Royal Manor. Just yesterday afternoon, a victim in the Mingyue Bay parking garage claimed the goose even hurled insults. After the incident, the victim reported suffering both physical and emotional trauma.”
The scene cut to a reporter interviewing the victim on site.
“Hello, may I ask you a few questions?”
“Me? Sure, sure.”
“Why is your face so swollen? Did it peck your face?”
The victim shook his head quickly. “No, no, not my face. It pecked my butt.”
He turned and pointed at his rear as he spoke.
“Did you actually hear it insult you?”
“I heard it, I heard it. It cursed at me.”
“What exactly did it say?”
The team didn’t bother watching the rest of the report.
Wang Zixuan spoke up, “This goose didn’t just go on a rampage—it cursed in public, too. Not only did it expose itself as a non-human, but it’s also disrupting the peace between humans, spirits, and monsters. Next week, Comrade Bear from the Demon Realm is coming to observe our work. And yet, something like this is happening in our district.”
At that moment, Hao Yingjun slammed the table, staring intently at Wang Zixuan without a word.
Wang Zixuan sighed, “Hao Yingjun, what is it? Need the restroom? Sit down, I’m not finished.”
Hao Yingjun muttered, “Shameless.”
Wang Zixuan, who had just turned away, whipped her head back around, palm raised, ready to strike. How dare you insult me!
