Hao Yingjun was completely thrown off by what he had just heard. What was going on here?

Wang Beibei wore a smug expression. “I was kidding.”

Hao Yingjun let out a sigh of relief. “You almost scared me to death.”

Wang Beibei continued, “I did some digging for you. It seems like they don’t even know there’s an intern like you here. In other words, President Gu is covering for you.”

Hao Yingjun nodded enthusiastically. “Thank you.”

Wang Beibei offered, “Got time to grab a meal together?”

Hao Yingjun started, “Actually, tonight I—”

Before he could finish, Wang Beibei walked right past him and headed over to Wang Zixuan.

Wang Zixuan eyed her warily. “What do you want?”

Wang Beibei leaned in and whispered, “Watch out for the people around you. Don’t get sold out without even knowing it.”

Wang Zixuan glanced at Hao Yingjun but said nothing.

Meanwhile, in the car, Li Sanpang opened an envelope to find a bank card inside, and beneath it, a photograph. The photo showed Wang Zhaodi holding a medal, standing next to him. Running his fingers over the image, he couldn’t help but cry as memories of the past washed over him.

As soon as Wang Beibei returned and was walking through the lobby, her agent called out to her.

“Miss Lucy, what would you like for lunch? So I can get it ready.”

Wang Beibei paused for a second. “Two pounds of chive dumplings.”

With that, she walked inside, leaving her agent momentarily stunned.

“Uh. All right,” the agent replied, quickly following her in.

Just as Li Sanpang’s car pulled away, a photograph fluttered out from the backseat window.

Standing in place, Wang Zixuan said with a hint of melancholy, “Maybe those two were meant to be together all along.”

Hao Yingjun stared off into the distance. “We’re all just passing through each other’s lives. Sooner or later, everyone sets out on their own journey.”

Wang Zixuan grinned wickedly. “You sound like you really get life!”

Hao Yingjun shrugged. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just remembered a few lyrics from a song.”

Wang Zixuan asked, “Which song?”

Hao Yingjun thought for a moment. “Let me think...”

At that moment, Wang Zixuan’s phone rang. As soon as he answered, a hurried voice came through.

“Disappearance at No. 15, Liberation Bridge. All relevant personnel, proceed to the scene immediately.”

Wang Zixuan groaned, “You’ve got to be kidding. We’re on our way.”

Curious, Hao Yingjun asked, “Hey, what did Wang Beibei just say to you?”

Wang Zixuan snapped, “None of your business. Get in the car.”

Hao Yingjun shook his head and got in. As soon as he was inside, Wang Zixuan floored the accelerator and they sped off.

One morning, Hao Yingjun, suitcase in hand, took a cab to the South Railway Station. The moment he got out, a man in black grabbed him and dragged him into a dark room.

The man in black said, “Hao Yingjun, you’ve been placed by Wang Zixuan’s side for a while now. Have you found anything? Our time is running out.”

Hao Yingjun protested, “Boss, that girl Wang Zixuan has never trusted me. She looks at me like I’m a criminal. I can’t get any useful information at all. Why not just transfer me back? Chalk it up to my incompetence, all right?”

The man in black replied, “I could transfer you back. But if I do, everything your family has right now... well, we’ll try to maintain it. Still, accidents happen.”

Hao Yingjun snapped, “Old bastard, are you threatening me? Don’t think I won’t risk everything and drag you down with me.”

The man in black hushed him, “Shh. I’m not threatening you. What do you have that’s worth threatening? I just want to remind you—everything you have now is because I gave it to you.”
