Chapter Twenty: Fallen Into a Trap
Wang Zixuan: "Hello, is this the Investigation Center? The matter has been resolved, send a team over to handle the aftermath."
While waiting for the team to arrive, the two of them did not remain idle but instead looked around to investigate. It became clear that this was the primary scene where those people had died. Yet, not a single lingering soul could be found.
Wang Zixuan felt something was amiss. Could such a sensational case end just like this? Could this group of small-time thugs really have committed such a crime? How had they managed to evade both the Underworld and the Investigation Center working together? And where had they obtained the formation, the official weapons of the underworld officers, and even the ghostly vines? Even an Underworld Commander would find it difficult to acquire those things. The forces behind this were anything but ordinary!
After searching thoroughly and finding nothing of value, Wang Zixuan, though troubled, decided to call the King of the Underworld. There was no other way—this matter was far too suspicious.
How could a well-hidden organization suddenly appear, bringing with them unknown items? Was this the result of official corruption, or the machinations of something sinister and twisted? Was it the intervention of some big shot, or a plot to eliminate rivals?
As soon as the call connected, a playful voice came through the line: "Little Xuanxuan, I heard you've already solved the case. That was fast! So, what kind of reward do you want this time? How about an autograph from me?"
Wang Zixuan replied, "Boss, enough with the jokes. I'm afraid things aren't that simple this time. First of all, for a case of this magnitude, even if you didn't send your very best underworld officers, they would have to be top-tier. And yet, they were wiped out without a trace, and nothing useful has been found. Secondly, these people were excellent at hiding—why would they suddenly reveal themselves, as if testing my abilities? With their access to ghostly vines, advanced nodes, and official underworld weapons, I don't believe they'd be foolish enough to send only a few lackeys to kill me. So what are they truly after?"
Before the King of the Underworld could answer, a faint voice sounded by Wang Zixuan's ear.
Tangtang: "To make you lower your guard."
Wang Zixuan whipped around and shouted, "What?"
The phone slipped from his hand and hit the ground. The King's voice could still be heard shouting through the receiver, but Wang Zixuan could no longer hear it—because he had been subdued by Tangtang. Just before he lost consciousness, he saw dense black smoke billowing from Tangtang's body.
The King of the Underworld, after hanging up, muttered, "Could they be so impatient as to make their move already?"
Wasting no time, the King immediately ordered the Ten Lords of the Underworld, the Four Judges, the Ten Commanders, and all available Soul Guides to head for M City.
This move by the King of the Underworld sent the Celestial Court into a panic. Was the Underworld preparing for war? They even began mobilizing troops toward Mount Kunlun. The Earthly Immortals in the mortal realm grew even more anxious, unable to fathom the King's intentions. Zhenyuanzi himself set out to confront the King and seek answers.
Within Wang Zixuan's consciousness, a mass of black mist was relentlessly eroding her spiritual sea. Just as she was about to lose her grip, a terrifying golden light surged from within her, annihilating the black mist completely.
It was unclear how much time had passed. It seemed as if someone was calling her from a great distance. The voice grew louder and clearer, until eventually, Wang Zixuan slowly regained consciousness.
Several people exclaimed excitedly, "You're awake—finally, you're awake! If anything had happened to you, the King of the Underworld would have torn us apart!"
Clutching her head, Wang Zixuan slowly sat up, feeling an overwhelming discomfort. She also felt that something was missing from her body, though she couldn't tell what it was. Despite the discomfort, she forced herself to look around.
