Hao Yingjun: "We're finally in the capital!"

Wang Zixuan: "The code word is: 'Are you robbing me?'"

Just then, a man holding a sign blocked their path and shouted, "Handsome, beautiful lady, need a ride? One hundred yuan, we leave as soon as you're in."

Wang Zixuan: "Are you robbing me?"

The man: "That's the price for everyone. Take it or leave it."

Nearby, several other people were holding up different signs to solicit customers.

A middle-aged woman: "Need a hotel? I have special services. Five hundred yuan for the night."

Hao Yingjun: "Haha, that price is actually not bad."

Wang Zixuan: "Are you robbing me?"

That single line shut the woman down. He then turned and walked away. They encountered several other solicitors afterward, and unsurprisingly, they were all rebuffed by Wang Zixuan’s standard response.

Suddenly, a sharp-tongued woman intercepted them.

The woman: "One-day tour of the Great Wall and the Thirteen Tombs of the Ming Dynasty, only 298 for the beautiful lady and handsome man. Two hundred and ninety-eight, we leave whenever you're ready."

Wang Zixuan: "Are you looting me?"

The woman replied with indifference, "If you think this is expensive, why even come to the capital?"

Wang Zixuan, who was just about to pull Hao Yingjun away, stopped at these words. He looked at the woman and paused for a moment.

Wang Zixuan: "Can't a guy just stir up some trouble?"

The woman said nothing. She took a map out of her crossbody bag, on which a few sentences had been written in red ink, and handed it to Wang Zixuan. Taking the map, Wang Zixuan signaled to Hao Yingjun, and they left immediately. Hao Yingjun, caught off guard, looked bewildered but followed along nonetheless. Wang Zixuan led the way with the map, while a miserable Hao Yingjun dragged two suitcases behind him until they reached a newspaper kiosk.

The elderly man inside the kiosk was busy working while muttering, "The Capital Rule of Law Daily, everyone needs it."

Reaching the kiosk window, Wang Zixuan looked around and said to the old man, "Station Chief Liu, we are—"

The old man gestured toward the miniature pinscher in his arms and said, "This is Station Chief Liu."

After saying this, he adjusted the dog's position, and just then, the dog turned its head to look at them, letting out a yawn.

The old man: "Tell me what you need. I am Secretary Wang of the liaison station."

Wang Zixuan nodded. "Hello, we are the Soul Ferrymen and associated agents from M City's Supermarket No. 4444. We contacted you previously. We are here to collect our permits."

The old man didn't stand on ceremony; he squinted and pointed to the side. "Go scan the code."

The two were stunned for a moment, then Hao Yingjun realized what he meant and took out his phone to scan the code nearby. After scanning, he showed the screen to Wang Zixuan. It read: forty-eight hours.

Wang Zixuan: "Two days later?"

The two looked at each other, expressions of distress on their faces.

Wang Zixuan: "If we wait two days, the suspect will be long gone."

The old man: "But there has to be a first-come, first-served basis. There are countless people in the capital waiting to get their documents processed."

Wang Zixuan: "What about our accommodation?"

The old man: "We don't handle accommodation."

Wang Zixuan: "Well, surely we get an official vehicle?"

The old man pointed with his chin toward the back. "It's right there."

The two looked behind them and—good grief—it was a shared bicycle. They turned back to look at him with skeptical expressions.

The old man didn't even look at them, saying nonchalantly, "You have to pay for it yourselves."

At this moment, Wang Zixuan cracked his knuckles, the sound echoing sharply. He looked ready to snap and assault the old man.
