Chapter 9: Signed Artist
The next morning, in a high-end office building located in the city center, Jia Bao Duan and Shuang Liang arrived at the twenty-eighth floor.
This entire level—several thousand square meters of office space—was the new headquarters of Wang Kun’s entertainment company. Despite the vast area, there were rarely more than a hundred people present on any given day. Unlike other industries, most of the company’s artists and employees typically worked outside the office; time spent at their desks was a rarity.
Though the company was more of a passion project for Wang Kun, he spared no expense in its creation. Not only did he occupy this entire floor for the main office, but he had also leased the entire floor below. Wang Kun intended to transform that level into studios and post-production facilities for film and television. As of now, the renovations were ongoing, and it would be at least another half month before the space was ready for use.
“Hello, we’re here to see Mr. Wang,” Jia Bao Duan said directly to the beautiful receptionist at the front desk.
“You must be the new signees, right? Mr. Wang is in his office. Let me take you in.”
A moment later, Jia Bao Duan and Shuang Liang were ushered into a spacious office. One wall was a giant floor-to-ceiling window, offering a broad vista and a distant view of the sea.
Inside, Wang Kun wasted no time upon seeing them. He smiled at Shuang Liang and spoke directly: “Shuang Liang, come take a look at this management contract. If you have no objections, sign here and you’ll officially become one of our artists.”
“I’ll review the contract first.” Shuang Liang, her expression proud, tried to appear nonchalant.
Wang Kun didn’t seem to mind. He turned to Jia Bao Duan. “Da Bao, once you join the company, you’ll spend some time learning from Ms. Wu. She’s a veteran manager. With her guidance, you’ll quickly get acquainted with all the ins and outs of the industry.”
“Alright!” Jia Bao Duan responded eagerly.
A few minutes later, Shuang Liang had skimmed through the artist contract. Wang Kun had already explained the key terms to her over the phone the previous night, so after a quick review, she signed her name without hesitation.
“It’s signed.”
“Good, welcome to Thunder Entertainment.” Wang Kun smiled as he put the contract away and picked up his desk phone, summoning his assistant.
“Xiao Wen, please show Miss Liang around the company. Also, have Ms. Wu assign an assistant to her. From today, Miss Liang is one of our priority new talents.”
“Yes, Mr. Wang!”
“Miss Liang, please come with me.”
After Shuang Liang and the assistant Xiao Wen left the office, only Jia Bao Duan and Wang Kun remained.
“Wang Kun, you really just signed Shuang Liang like that?”
“Shuang Liang has great potential in every respect. I trust my judgment. With the company’s backing, she’ll soon be one of our top artists,” Wang Kun explained with a smile.
“Is that really so? Or do you have other intentions regarding Shuang Liang?” Jia Bao Duan sounded skeptical.
“Of course it’s true, Da Bao. If I’m going into business, naturally my goal is to make money. I’ve only met Shuang Liang once before, but her qualities are indeed perfect for the entertainment industry. And since she happens to be your classmate and roommate, it’s only natural I’d pay a bit more attention.”
In fact, Wang Kun had no ulterior motives. He knew exactly what kind of world he was in, and what he was meant to do here.
He could only stay in this world for two years. His mission was to accumulate attribute points, so that when he returned to the Swallowed Star universe, he could use those points to break free from the status of an ordinary person and become a warrior.
Now that he’d entered this world, and since the system that had fused with him hadn’t issued any tasks, interacting with these protagonists seemed the best way forward.
