Chapter 71: The Umbrella Base
After Wang Kun left, Cheng Haiyao began instructing Alice in the cultivation of gene original energy. That very night, Alice managed to sense the gene original energy and, after her first cultivation, her strength soared directly to the level of a warlord.
More importantly, Alice also possessed the talent of a Psychic Master—and her aptitude was far from weak.
Upon learning this, Wang Kun immediately assigned his only current psychic master deathsworn, the Sorceress Ju Ziyun, to guide Alice. Ju Ziyun was now a planetary-level, sixth-tier psychic master, on par with Wang Kun himself. It was perfectly fitting for her to be Alice's teacher.
That same evening, another important character in the story appeared—the leader of a survivor squad, Claire. She and her teammates stopped to rest at a gas station.
“How’s the situation?” Claire asked.
“Not a drop of fuel left!” came the reply.
Hearing the bad news, Claire could only nod helplessly. “Rest for the night. We’ll set out again tomorrow.”
In the post-apocalyptic world, it was impossible for them to stay in one place for long. To avoid the ever-present threat of zombie hordes and to search for more sources of food, they could only keep moving across this desolate land.
After discovering this group of survivors, Wang Kun took some time that night to teleport to their location. He wanted to see if Claire, as one of the story’s characters, met the requirements to use a deathsworn card.
Unfortunately, Claire did not qualify. Since she didn’t meet the criteria, Wang Kun paid her and her team no further attention. He teleported back to the ship and instructed Ding Yao, who had found Claire’s group, to continue searching elsewhere.
Late that same night, one of Wang Kun’s beautiful deathsworn, Xia Tian, made a new discovery during her search.
“Master, I’ve found an underground base.”
“An underground base!” Wang Kun appeared at Xia Tian’s side the very next second.
He saw a wooden cabin standing alone on an open plot of land, with several fully armed soldiers transporting something outside. A helicopter was parked nearby.
“This must be another Umbrella Corporation base in North America,” Wang Kun mused. “It seems there are also several Alice clones here.”
“It’s best to let Alice handle this herself—a perfect opportunity for real combat training.”
Having made his decision, Wang Kun said, “Leave this place to Alice. Go to other continents and search for more such bases and survivors.”
“Yes, Master!” Xia Tian shot into the sky and soon vanished over the horizon.
Wang Kun, meanwhile, teleported back to the ship. With such a powerful ability, traveling anywhere was effortless for him. As long as he sensed a direction or had a precise set of coordinates, he could appear at his destination in an instant. Now, at planetary level six, each teleport spanned over a thousand kilometers. Even crossing the ocean required only a few jumps.
The next morning, following the location provided by Xia Tian, Alice arrived alone at the perimeter of the Umbrella Corporation base.
“Doctor, Alice has appeared,” an operator reported.
“Where?” Dr. Isaacs was visibly excited. Alice was critical to his research, and he had spent years tracking her—but every time, she had managed to escape.
“She’s just outside the base,” the AI White Queen reported.
A flash of light, and Alice’s figure appeared on the main control room’s central screen. Alone, she was walking slowly toward the base entrance—the wooden cabin.
“She actually came on her own.”
“Guards, bring Alice into the base. Be careful, I want her alive.”
“Yes, Doctor!” A squad of guards received the order and immediately headed to the surface.
Meanwhile, Alice had already entered the cabin. With a few simple movements, she activated the elevator and descended into the base.
“Attention, the target has taken the elevator down.”
The guards readied their weapons, quietly waiting for Alice to arrive.
