Chapter 6 Betrayed
That night, after working overtime, Jiang Xiaoguo was about to return to campus when she suddenly spotted Liang Shuang’s boyfriend, the golf guy, cozying up with someone on the street. Without hesitation, Jiang Xiaoguo snapped a photo and sent it to the group chat she shared with her three roommates.
“Can you believe how lucky Liang is? It’s late at night, and she’s out on the street, being all lovey-dovey with her boyfriend.”
Inside the dorm, Luo Yan, who was playing video games, and Duan Jiabao, who was scrolling through Weibo, stared at the picture Jiang Xiaoguo sent with puzzled expressions.
Luo Yan said, “Xiaoguo, are you seeing things?”
Jiang Xiaoguo replied, “No way! The clothes and the car are exactly the same.”
Duan Jiabao chimed in, “Liang Shuang’s here in the dorm. She said her boyfriend is on a business trip.”
Jiang Xiaoguo was stunned by her friends’ replies.
Luo Yan added, “The Liang Shuang here with us has the same face and voice as always. If you don’t believe me, listen!”
Watching the time on her phone, Luo Yan opened the voice recording button, ready to capture a moment. Seconds later, at exactly 10:30 PM, the alarm rang through the dorm.
Hearing the alarm, Liang Shuang casually switched it off and delivered her nightly catchphrase.
“It’s half past ten, lights out!”
Luo Yan hurriedly sent the recording to Jiang Xiaoguo.
On the other end, Jiang Xiaoguo listened to the message and suddenly realized something. She was certain she had seen Liang Shuang’s golf boyfriend, but hadn’t gotten a clear look at the woman in the car. Now, with Liang Shuang confirmed in the dorm, the woman she saw must have been someone else.
In other words, Liang Shuang had been cheated on.
Jiang Xiaoguo messaged, “I think I’ve uncovered a huge secret—Liang has been betrayed!”
Luo Yan sighed, “Poor Liang, she has no idea!”
Duan Jiabao asked, “Should we tell her?”
Jiang Xiaoguo said, “Let’s not.”
The next morning in the dorm, Duan Jiabao, Jiang Xiaoguo, and Luo Yan peeked through the curtains at Liang Shuang, who was carefully getting ready. They couldn’t help but sigh quietly.
“I wonder how Liang would feel if she knew she was dressing up to meet a boyfriend who’d already betrayed her.”
“I bet it would be tragic,” one guessed.
That afternoon, after watching Duan Jiabao’s brother’s fencing match, Jiang Xiaoguo and Luo Yan were chatting when Duan Jiabao happily announced, “Wang Kun replied! He said he’s free tonight!”
“Wasn’t Wang Kun really busy recently? How come he’s free tonight?”
“He said he’s finished with things at the entertainment company, so tonight he’s available.”
As they chatted, a familiar figure appeared before them.
“Liang Shuang! Why is she carrying a suitcase?”
“Is she moving out again?”
Jiang Xiaoguo rushed over to stop Liang Shuang, who was about to leave.
“What’s up?” Liang Shuang, tall and proud, looked at them with an air of superiority.
“Where are you going?” Jiang Xiaoguo asked, hesitant.
“Where I go is none of your business.”
“You just moved back into the dorm a few days ago—now you’re leaving again?”
“You talk like you actually want me to stay,” Liang Shuang replied impatiently.
Knowing the truth about Liang Shuang’s situation, Jiang Xiaoguo felt sorry for her and, driven by a sense of justice, decided to intervene despite Liang Shuang’s irritation.
“Wait!”
“We’ve been roommates for two years—don’t you think it's a bit heartless to suddenly move out?”
In a moment of desperation, Jiang Xiaoguo came up with an excuse.
“Jiabao’s brother is here, and we’re having dinner with him tonight. You should come with us—it can be your farewell dinner before you move out.”
With that, Jiang Xiaoguo took the initiative to push Liang Shuang’s suitcase and called Duan Jiabao and Luo Yan to hurry back to campus.
“Xiaoguo, are you crazy? Why invite her?”
“Yeah, and why carry her suitcase for her?”
“If I don’t, I’ll just watch her walk out and spend time with that scumbag. If I didn’t know the truth, maybe I could ignore it, but now that I do, I can’t just stand by.”
“So what’s your plan? Tell her the truth?”
“We’ll see when the time comes.”
Liang Shuang, following behind, didn’t overhear their whispered conversation.
