I Take Life Seriously Chapter 94: The Spell-Chanting Demigod, Part One

It was really rather tragic for this Godzilla-class beast. Of all things, it had mutated a tail that was absurdly long, thick, and utterly useless, and that tail had now become its greatest weakness.

...

With all the force of his consciousness cranked to the limit, Zhang Mingjing directed the light drill to bore down with relentless fury.

After twenty minutes of hard struggle, the light drill finally pierced the beast’s thick hide. In about three minutes, it had siphoned off an astronomical amount of energy, replenished the energy losses of all our armors, and stored the remainder in the three-dimensional and four-dimensional storage devices he had already configured in advance.

In an instant, the beast was weakened, as though it had aged several hundred years in a heartbeat. Its skin became more wrinkled and parched, the savagery in its gaze faded, and the ferocious light in its eyes went dull. It panted like a man groaning in despair, and it could no longer release that high-energy white glow from its mouth.

It immediately slumped in dejection, which meant the strange spacetime code within it had also judged itself incapable of going on, waiting only for Zhang Mingjing and the others to find a way to kill it.

But Zhang Mingjing then discovered that both the armors of our Taoist team and all the storage spaces used for energy reserves had already been packed to the brim. So he had the five-dimensional spatial thought model disperse the energy stored in those containers, of course into four-dimensional space. Otherwise, if all that energy were to pour into three-dimensional space in a single instant, it would trigger a catastrophic nuclear disaster.

Once the energy had been dispersed at once, the armors and the other storage spaces were empty again.

Almost at the same time, Zhang Mingjing ordered the light drill to begin absorbing the beast’s energy once more. Again, it took only three minutes before the armors on our Taoist team were full again, and the commonly used storage spaces were brimming with stored power as well. By then, the beast and the spacetime code within it had finally reached their last gasp.

At the end, under the continued energy draw of the Qian position in Zhang Yidao’s Eight Trigrams Array, it finally died five minutes later.

And so this battle with the Godzilla-level beast ended in truly bizarre fashion.

...

In the two days after that clash, Zhang Mingjing continued to cultivate with great confidence in his heart, originally expecting some astonishing breakthrough. Yet in the end, he gained nothing at all, and it left him utterly bewildered.

He did not know that his consciousness had already been sealed by the elders of the five-dimensional space, locked within four-dimensional space by a sealing light, which was why he had reaped no results.

After analysis, the five-dimensional spatial thought model had mistakenly concluded that Zhang Mingjing had reached his limit. Even it found that difficult to accept.

In the end, it could not bear to tell Zhang Mingjing its conclusion, and could only lament his misfortune in silence, again and again.

But Zhang Yidao noticed that something was off. After all, Zhang Mingjing was his son, and ever since leaving with Xiao Nuxia last year, he had never stopped divining Zhang Mingjing’s fortunes in order to ease the longing they both felt for him.

This morning he cast another reading for Zhang Mingjing and cried out in shock, “Damn it! How could it be this hexagram?”

Xiao Nuxia, seeing his grave expression, immediately sensed trouble and asked, “What is it?”

Zhang Yidao looked at her in confusion. “Two days ago, the hexagram for Zhang Mingjing was still the image of striving onward day and night. How has it suddenly become the warning of a dragon soaring too high with regret? This is just too hard to understand. Something must be wrong.”

Xiao Nuxia had been with Zhang Yidao for so many years that she instantly understood what he meant. Alarmed, she asked, “Could it be that you’re not divining properly today?”

“Get lost! You know my divination skills perfectly well. Even divining with my foot would still be first-rate. How could I possibly be wrong?”

“So that means our son has already reached the peak of his life? That when things reach an extreme, they turn in the opposite direction, and from here on out it will only be downhill? That makes no sense. He’s still so young.” Her voice had already begun to sound tearful.

“Enough, enough. Don’t start spiraling into nonsense. It doesn’t necessarily mean he has reached the summit of life and will now decline. It could also mean that his potential has hit its limit, or that he has reached a bottleneck so narrow that the chance of breaking through it is vanishingly small.”

“So that’s how it is... Should we tell Zhang Mingjing?”

Zhang Yidao hesitated, then shook his head.

...

Around three in the afternoon, a spacetime rift suddenly tore open in the sky over North America, in a region the size of a basketball court. Another beam of light shot out from the breach and fell to the Earth.

About twenty minutes later, a demigod standing one point nine meters tall, with red skin, appeared.

He wore black battle armor and looked like a twenty-five-year-old man. His face was handsome, his expression kind, and not a trace of killing intent could be seen on him. He looked more like an emissary of peace from Rainbow Star.

He stretched both arms, yawned, then took a deep breath of the fresh air and said with a grin, “This planet isn’t bad!”

“Indeed. In three-dimensional space, this Earth counts as a kind of paradise,” his spacetime code replied from within him.

“I’m going to turn it into my colony.”

“As long as you obtain the energy sphere and become a true great deity, then after defeating these Earthlings and taking everything here, it will be as easy as pie.”

“Oh! Hahaha...”

As he spoke, he still did not seem to be showing any killing intent. Could it be that he truly had no desire to come here and slaughter?

His name was Mu Xiu, a mid-to-upper-grade cultivator from Rainbow Star. But his ambitions were still too great, so he was chosen by a spacetime code of moderately high energy level. The two of them hit it off at once and prepared to exploit each other for their own purposes.

Mu Xiu was not only ambitious and powerful, but also possessed very unusual abilities.

He was skilled at chanting mantras and using them to suppress and destroy enemies. Most crucially, he actually knew a mantra containing five-dimensional spatial information, and he could use it to dispel interference and prevent malicious data from invading him. In simple terms, his anti-hacking ability was exceptionally strong, making it extremely difficult, perhaps even impossible, for the spacetime code within him to corrupt him.

The reason he showed no killing intent was not that he lacked a murderous heart, but because he was a man of exceptionally meticulous thoughts, the kind who never revealed anything on his face.

After admiring the scenery for a while longer, Mu Xiu shot off toward the southern city.

But he flew very slowly, apparently not in any rush to obtain the energy sphere. Instead, he meant to savor the sight of his future colony.

He was often even arrogant in the presence of the spacetime code, which made that code both love and hate him, so it could not be bothered to waste words reprimanding him for flying so slowly.

However, when Mu Xiu was flying over the Pacific and suddenly changed course toward Australia, the spacetime code finally snapped, “What do you think you’re doing?”

By then, however, his intention was crystal clear to the code.

It turned out that he had discovered a monster being corrupted by another spacetime code. The monster had only just begun to mutate, but it was already heading toward the sea, presumably to merge with other monsters in the ocean and become a great beast. Mu Xiu was actually rushing over to subdue it.

“You want to turn on your own kind?” his spacetime code continued to demand.

“What? Turn on my own kind? Don’t be ridiculous! How could that monster and I be the same kind?”

“But the code inside it and I are from the same source!”

“Maybe, but it and the code inside it both want the energy sphere, so they are our competitors. To put it simply: if they cannot be used by me, then they are our enemies.”

“What kind of logic is that? By that reasoning, wouldn’t all the cultivators on Rainbow Star who cooperate with codes like us be your enemies too?”

“Shh... don’t get worked up. I want to monopolize the power of the energy sphere. If they want to compete with me, then they can only be enemies.”

“Damn it, you’re that greedy?”

“Hahaha... You chose me precisely because I like this sort of thing, didn’t you? In truth, whether it’s those monsters or us people from Rainbow Star who obtain the energy sphere, it makes no difference to you, because you are all originally one and the same. You don’t care who gets it. But we are all separate individuals. Whoever gets the energy sphere is the one who can become a god, so of course there must be competition.”

“So you really mean to kill that monster and the spacetime code inside it?”

“Hahaha... I’m not that stupid. Killing them would be a tremendous waste. I’m going to use it to help me seize the energy sphere.”

“Damn it!”

That was his spacetime code’s final complaint, because for the moment it could do nothing to Mu Xiu.

...

Soon Mu Xiu reached the monster’s side and blocked its path.

The monster turned out to be an ostrich.

At their first meeting, he did not immediately move to control the ostrich. Instead, he had the spacetime code within him communicate with the spacetime code inside the ostrich.

By Mu Xiu’s instructions, the code within him requested that the code inside the ostrich assist him and Mu Xiu in seizing the energy sphere.

But the spacetime code within the ostrich was clearly baffled by the suggestion. It muttered, “I have no idea what you mean at all.”

It turned out these spacetime codes had no concept of “assistance.” Not even the code within Mu Xiu did; it merely recited the script Mu Xiu had demanded of it.

Mu Xiu then asked in confusion, “Haven’t you cooperated with each other before? For example, by merging several monsters together?”

Unexpectedly, the spacetime code inside the ostrich suddenly said happily, “So you want to merge with my host? But I already made arrangements with three other codes... How about you join us too?”
