Volume One Mutation Chapter Sixty Competition
As soon as Wang Ying spoke, the crowd gathered around erupted into excited chatter.
“Damn! No wonder he looked so familiar—he’s the very War God from those videos we watch all the time, isn’t he?”
“Awesome, the War God came to our camp! I actually got to see him in person. I’ll have stories to brag about now.”
“Wow! I finally saw him in the flesh today! He’s so handsome, I’m in love, seriously,” a young soldier exclaimed, utterly infatuated, completely oblivious to the others moving away from him in mild disapproval.
Among the crowd were the two young soldiers who had previously discussed Wang Na. Their initial intention was merely to see who she had brought back. But upon realizing it was the famed War God from the videos, they stared in astonishment at the quiet, handsome young man with an air of detachment.
“Well, now you have to respect her, right? This isn’t some lost child of a high-ranking official, but a real killer! No wonder Sister Na went personally to pick him up. Turns out she was fetching such a big shot. Had I known, I would’ve gone too.”
“Humph!” The young man who had complained earlier spun around and left without a word.
“Ah, someone’s jealous again.” The other soldier watched him leave, shaking his head helplessly.
After being scrutinized by the crowd like monkeys in a zoo, Liu Cong and his companions, Zhang Chu and Liu Qingqing, found themselves feeling uncomfortable as well. The spectators, after sizing up Liu Cong, naturally glanced at the people accompanying the War God, curious about their appearance.
Of course, quite a few eyes were glued to Liu Qingqing, unable to look away.
“Liu, say a few words to your fans?” Wang Ying teased, seeing their discomfort.
Liu Cong had no desire to play the monkey. He waved briefly to the crowd and frowned, “Chief Wang, please find us somewhere to rest. We’ll set out after a short break.”
Wang Ying, knowing he was shy—something Zhang Quan had mentioned during their phone call—acted accordingly, though her curiosity was piqued and she couldn’t help teasing him.
After all, women are always a bit more curious about heroes.
“Wang Na, take them to the resting area. I’ll check on the plane. If nothing goes wrong, you’ll depart in twenty minutes,” Wang Ying called from behind.
It was only then that Liu Cong and his companions noticed another person behind them, and for the first time, saw Wang Na’s face clearly. They were surprised by how much she resembled Wang Ying; both were strong, beautiful women, though Wang Na was even more attractive.
Noticing their curious gazes, Wang Na shrugged, “Don’t stare. She’s my sister, we have the same mother. Follow me!”
With that, she pushed through the crowd and led the way.
Liu Cong was about to follow when Zhang Chu leaned in and whispered, “You and Miss Liu go rest first. I’ll have a word with Wang Ying.”
...
Liu Cong and Liu Qingqing followed Wang Na to the Eagle Base’s resting area. Up close, they discovered the tents were much larger than they had appeared from the plane. Each tent was spacious enough for four bunk beds, accommodating eight people.
The tent Wang Na brought them to was noticeably more comfortable, with only two beds and plenty of daily necessities scattered around. The most conspicuous items were several brightly colored pieces of women’s intimate apparel hanging to the side.
“This is my sister’s and my tent. Rest here if you’re tired. I’ll let you know when it’s time to go,” Wang Na said, removing her goggles and placing them on the table.
Liu Cong nodded, signaling he understood. Liu Qingqing, however, asked, “Aren’t you going to rest? You’ve been piloting the plane all this time.”
Wang Na was surprised. Though she found Liu Qingqing a bit dramatic, she was still startled that such an ethereal beauty would care for her. Smiling, she replied, “I’m not tired. You two rest, I’m off to check on the plane.”
After Wang Na left, Liu Qingqing pulled Liu Cong down to sit. The moment she sat, she felt the hardness of the bed’s planks. It was difficult to imagine Wang Ying and Wang Na sleeping on such beds every day.
Liu Cong watched Liu Qingqing as she looked around. “Are you tired? If so, lie down and rest.”
“Not at all. I’ve been practicing, so I don’t feel tired. After training, I only feel warm and comfortable all over,” Liu Qingqing smiled.
Warm and comfortable? Liu Cong’s heart stirred. Looking at her again, he noticed her skin was luminous and delicate, her face rosy and full.
“Qingqing, I remember when you started training, your body felt tingly, right?”
“Hmm, I think so. I’d forgotten until you mentioned it. Now, when I train, there’s no tingling,” Liu Qingqing replied in delight.
Previously, the tingling sensation during training was uncomfortable despite the eventual pleasant feeling. Now, free from that odd discomfort, Liu Qingqing was naturally pleased.
“Try again, focus on the feeling.”
Liu Cong took Liu Qingqing’s hand, channeling energy through their joined hands. He found the energy entering Liu Qingqing much faster than before. Previously, to avoid harming her, he slowed the flow of energy during their sessions. Now, compared to before, it was clear her body could absorb much more energy.
If previous training was like a gentle drizzle, now it was a lively stream.
Liu Qingqing opened her eyes, her voice joyful. “Brother Liu, there’s really no more tingling—and the training feels faster!”
Liu Cong was delighted. “Yes, it’s faster. Your constitution has improved a lot. You’ll be able to increase your training speed and progress much quicker.”
“Really? Does that mean I can become even stronger?”
“Yes, you’ll gradually become a superwoman.”
“No way! Superwoman is all muscles, so ugly. I want to be a heroine!”
Just then, Zhang Chu pushed aside the curtain and entered. “Hey, did I just hear someone say she wants to be a heroine? Did I mishear?”
Embarrassed to be overheard, Liu Qingqing’s face flushed and she buried her head in Liu Cong’s embrace, silent.
“Uncle Zhang, don’t underestimate Qingqing. If it comes down to skill, you definitely aren’t her match now,” Liu Cong spoke up for Liu Qingqing.
Zhang Chu’s eyes widened, “Brother, I might believe you’re stronger than me, but saying Miss Liu is stronger? That’s a bit much.”
Seeing he had successfully provoked Zhang Chu’s competitive spirit, Liu Cong smiled lightly. “Don’t believe me? Why not have a match and see?”
Liu Qingqing lifted her head in surprise, looking at Liu Cong.
“It’s fine. He won’t hurt you, but you must go easy on him,” Liu Cong smiled.
Zhang Chu had been curious to see Liu Qingqing’s abilities after her training. He believed short-term training could improve health, but to say she could best him was preposterous. He spoke up, “Brother, since you want me to spar with Miss Liu, I’ll do it. Rest assured, I’ll be careful and won’t hurt her.”
Liu Cong laughed, “Uncle Zhang, when I said ‘go easy,’ I meant Qingqing, not you.”
With that, Liu Qingqing understood—her brother wanted her to be gentle. She smiled and nodded.
Zhang Chu, annoyed, couldn’t bother with pretense anymore. He took off his jacket, revealing a strong physique, his large biceps standing out in stark contrast to the slender Liu Qingqing.
“Miss Liu, you may go first.” Though irritated, he didn’t want to be seen as a man who hits women, so he decided to only defend.
Liu Qingqing froze. “Huh?”
“Come on, hit me! Haven’t you trained?”
“But… but, I don’t know how to hit someone…”
Hearing this, Zhang Chu was dumbfounded. She didn’t know how to fight? How could they compete then? Was he supposed to strike this delicate, ethereal girl who wouldn’t even fight back? He looked at Liu Cong, feeling aggrieved by the predicament.
Liu Cong chuckled, “Uncle Zhang, don’t worry about hurting her. Just go ahead. If anything happens, I’m here.”
He turned to Liu Qingqing, “When he attacks, dodge and find a chance to counter. Use your fists or feet—it’s just like what you’ve seen in TV dramas. Remember, be gentle!”
Faced with Liu Qingqing, the delicate girl, and hearing Liu Cong repeatedly urge her to go easy, Zhang Chu felt thoroughly disregarded. His teeth clenched in frustration. He changed his mind—he’d go all out to restore his dignity. He wasn't worried about hurting Liu Qingqing, especially with Liu Cong watching nearby.
