Chapter 125: Is It All Right to Dress Like This?
Two peaceful days slipped by in the blink of an eye. Just as Wei Wuji had finished his breakfast, Zheng Dali came to report that Yu Guang was already waiting outside the gate.
"So soon?" Wei Wuji set down his chopsticks, swallowed the last mouthful of soup, and pursed his lips.
"Who is looking for you?" Dan Ji asked from the side.
Wei Wuji smiled and said slowly, "Mother, my fourth brother has invited me to attend some kind of banquet."
Dan Ji nodded without saying anything further. Wei Wuji found this strange; his mother usually had more to say and was quite prone to nagging these past few days.
Just as he was wondering, Dan Ji finally spoke, her tone indifferent. "The fourth one isn't a bad person. Go early and come back early."
"Uh!" Wei Wuji was caught off guard and responded perfunctorily. In his memory, it was truly rare for Dan Ji to offer such a favorable assessment of anyone.
"Then I shall take my leave..." Wei Wuji stood up and bowed to Dan Ji. She set down her bowl and chopsticks, looked at him, and nodded.
Only then did Wei Wuji turn and follow Zheng Dali outside. Today was destined to be an unusual day.
Stepping into the courtyard, the weather was quite pleasant—bright, yet without the oppressive heat of a scorching sun.
"Where is he?" Wei Wuji asked.
"Young Master, he is right outside the gate. See, isn't that him?" As Zheng Dali spoke, Yu Guang appeared.
Yu Guang had been keeping a close eye on the gate, and before Wei Wuji could spot him, he had already caught sight of Wei Wuji.
"Greetings, Young Master!" Yu Guang said with a beaming smile, rushing forward to pay his respects.
"You've come quite early," Wei Wuji remarked with a smile. He had a decent impression of Yu Guang.
Yu Guang felt somewhat flattered; after being greeted with a smile, he became even more reserved.
"Let's go. Lead the way, and let me go out and see the world!" Wei Wuji was in good spirits and spoke with a hint of playfulness.
Yu Guang nodded repeatedly and said, "Then... Young Master, please change into your formal attire, and then we shall depart."
Upon hearing this, Wei Wuji's face fell. *Damn it, I have to change clothes? What’s wrong with what I’m wearing now?*
At that moment, Wei Wuji was dressed in a standard warrior's outfit, complete with a sword at his waist—far from the image of a delicate young nobleman in flowing robes and wide sleeves. He preferred the warrior's attire; it made him feel more spirited, and he truly could not get used to those so-called "formal clothes."
"No need to change. This is perfectly fine. Our Great Wei rules the world through martial strength; dressing this way best embodies the heroic spirit of a Great Wei man!" Wei Wuji insisted, forcing a justification.
Yu Guang, refuted by this grand rhetoric, had nothing left to say and dropped the subject. Similar things had happened before.
Yu Guang waved a hand, and a carriage pulled up from nearby, looking exceptionally luxurious. He accompanied it with a fawning smile and said, "Young Master, please board."
Wei Wuji felt a strange sensation. *Board? Why does that word sound so familiar?* As the carriage reached him, he climbed in without ceremony. He hadn't ridden in a BMW in his past life, but he could consider this his version of one.
"Move out!" With Yu Guang’s shout from outside, the carriage began to roll forward.
Although the technology made it a bit shaky and bumpy, the soft cushions provided a unique sense of comfort that Wei Wuji found quite enjoyable. He lifted the curtain to see Zheng Dali and the other guards riding on horseback behind Yu Guang. Only then did he truly relax and begin to enjoy himself.
The sound of hooves echoed down the long street, reaching the ears of the patrolling guards who passed by from time to time. Wei Wuji realized he had been too unaccustomed to luxury. This single carriage had completely changed his perspective. Inside, hidden in various nooks, he discovered over a dozen compartments filled with snacks and even a small flask of wine.
Wei Wuji, naturally, did not hold back. He crossed his legs, his hands constantly moving—grabbing dried fruits with one hand and strips of jerky with the other.
"Life is truly meant for enjoyment!" he sighed with genuine feeling. Through this, he also formed a preliminary impression of his four brothers. *If they are so devoted to luxury, surely they won't be petty, status-obsessed people,* he thought to himself.
The carriage continued forward, and Wei Wuji could even feel its speed increasing. He lifted the curtain and asked Yu Guang, who was riding alongside, "How much longer until we arrive?"
Yu Guang replied immediately, "Answering the Young Master, we are about a quarter-hour from the North Gate, and from there, it will take roughly another half-hour to reach Xiangling Hall."
Wei Wuji nearly jumped up in frustration. By Yu Guang's account, that meant it would take over an hour? While the carriage was comfortable, the novelty had worn off, and he felt stifled being cooped up inside.
"Why so far?" Wei Wuji asked with slight dissatisfaction. A simple gathering, and they had to go outside the city.
Yu Guang, feeling nervous and fearing the young man might lose his temper, explained, "Please understand, Young Master. Xiangling Hall is located at Feiyun Creek, ten miles north of Wu'an City. The scenery there is absolutely magnificent."
"Especially the creek itself; it is remarkably elegant and a perfect place to escape the summer heat," Yu Guang added, doing his best to praise the location.
*So it's just a small waterfall where everyone goes to cool off,* Wei Wuji thought to himself. He had expected something much more formal.
"I suppose there are quite a few people who go there to play, right?" Wei Wuji said casually.
Yu Guang replied, "Not at all. Unless you are a high-ranking official or a person of noble status, you cannot enter Xiangling Hall. Ordinary people are not allowed in."
Wei Wuji nodded. "In that case, the owner of Xiangling Hall must not be an ordinary person either!"
Yu Guang’s expression turned odd upon hearing this, but realizing that the young master had no idea what Xiangling Hall even was, he relaxed.
"Young Master, this Xiangling Hall... was built under the orders of the Second Young Master!" Yu Guang said timidly.
Wei Wuji was surprised. He hadn't expected Xiangling Hall to be Wei Chengze's territory. *Wei Chengze is currently at the front lines, sticking by our 'dear' father’s side, likely still in a standoff with the Qi people,* he thought. A sense of secret pleasure welled up in him.
That guy was suffering at the front, while Wei Wuji was here, living it up in his territory—and perhaps even planning to stir up some trouble. He felt a thrill at the thought. *I’ve come to the right place this time. If I don't turn his place upside down, my name isn't Wei!*
The carriage rolled on. With something to look forward to, the rest of the journey didn't seem as long. However, Wei Wuji was not the type to sit still. Not long after passing through the North Gate, he couldn't take it anymore.
He ordered the carriage to stop and scrambled out; he simply couldn't stand the crawling pace. Under Yu Guang's stunned gaze, Wei Wuji leaped onto a horse.
"Drawing a sword and mounting a horse—this is more my style!" he muttered. Going by carriage was something only delicate ladies would do.
"Young Master, what are you doing?" Yu Guang asked, completely failing to grasp Wei Wuji’s behavior.
Wei Wuji, displaying his boldness, flicked the horsewhip and looked ahead. "A real man should travel on horseback!"
Without another word, he spurred his horse forward. Zheng Dali and the other guards immediately followed. After giving a few brief instructions to his bewildered attendants, Yu Guang also whipped his horse to catch up, fearing that the young master might get lost.
By now, Yu Guang was completely defeated by Wei Wuji’s unpredictable nature.
