Luo Chen continued to gaze into the distance, as if murmuring to himself, “Long ago, Jesus Christ was betrayed by his thirteenth disciple—Judas—sold for money and died upon the cross. At the moment of his death, he gave his followers his final divine prophecy: that he would soon rise again and guide the faithful toward the light. In the bag of silver Judas received for betraying God, there dwelled a demon, born from the ceaseless accumulation of the sins within the human heart. As Judas fled from the faithful, he wandered unknowingly into a forest. Resting beneath a tree, he could not resist opening the coin pouch. His wicked heart awakened the demon, who flew out and, seeing Judas in such a wretched state, found it amusing and asked, ‘Do you regret it?’ Filled with resentment, Judas replied, ‘I only regret not killing those foolish believers, for then I would not be in such misery now.’

The demon was delighted. ‘Would you like to make a pact with me?’ it asked. Judas warily inquired, ‘What sort of pact?’ The demon extended its hand. ‘As long as you harbor the desire to kill those followers of God, I will help you fulfill your wish.’ Judas asked, ‘Are there no other conditions?’ The demon smiled. ‘None at all.’ Judas agreed at once. Under the great tree, using his own blood, he began to write the terms of the pact on the stripped bark.

Just as he was about to finish, a deep sigh echoed from the sky above. Both the demon and Judas looked up and saw, to their astonishment, a holy and majestic angel had arrived without their notice. The angel, wielding a sword of light, proclaimed solemnly, ‘Judas, you have betrayed the Son of God and shall suffer His punishment. You shall forever…’ Before the angel could finish, an arrow pierced its chest—a silent attack launched by the demon. The fallen angel was seized by the demon, who immediately drank all of the angel’s blood. The demon then gained the angel’s beautiful visage and immortal life. Elated, the demon boasted to Judas, ‘I no longer need you. I have the angel’s vitality now.’

Realizing he’d been deceived, Judas cursed, ‘You shall not have the last laugh. You covet all that the angel had—strength, life, beauty—but you forget that our pact is not yet complete.’ The demon sensed something was wrong and tried to intervene, but having just drained the angel’s blood, it was too weak to move. Seeing the demon thus constrained, Judas quickly inscribed onto the contract: ‘You possess strength countless times greater than a human’s, but you must feed on fresh blood daily to survive. You have beauty beyond compare, but whenever you drink blood, you revert to your original, hideous form. You have ageless, undying life, but if a stake stained with my blood is driven into your heart, you will perish. Your strength, your life, your beauty are born of darkness; when you appear in the light, all shall be reduced to nothingness!’

Heh, what a vicious curse that is.”

Qiao Wei was lost in thought, but Luo Chen reached out and tapped her on the head, his tone tinged with affection, “What are you daydreaming about?”

A natural gentleness appeared on Luo Chen’s face, gone was his usual nonchalance. Looking at Qiao Wei’s delicate features, he smiled, “The story is over. Guess—who are you in the story?”
