The Resurrection of Vampire Joel
“Your Highness Luoxuan, please go and rest. It’s already dawn.” Rhine had composed all her emotions, standing respectfully to the side as she addressed Luoxuan.
Luoxuan bit his lower lip in silence, refusing to release his hold on Qiao Wei. These past few hours had been more agonizing than any he’d ever known, and yet he could not bring himself to leave, even for a moment. He only wished to remain by Qiao Wei’s side.
Rhine said nothing more, simply standing statue-like nearby. Suddenly, the gravity and worry on Luoxuan’s face were swept away by a surge of inexpressible joy and excitement—he had clearly seen Qiao Wei’s hand move ever so slightly. Minutes later, Qiao Wei’s eyes snapped open.
“Qiao Wei!” Rhine cried out, nearly screaming with delight and astonishment at the sight of Qiao Wei awake.
“Qiao Qiao, you’re awake? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” Luoxuan, though already aware, could not conceal the happiness in his voice.
Qiao Wei merely pulled her hand free from his grasp, warily watching the two before her, saying nothing. Her gaze brimmed with disappointment and resentment—such eyes were like sharp daggers, plunging viciously into Luoxuan’s heart, cutting it into pieces, leaving it a bloody, mangled mess, suffocating him.
“I… Qiao Wei… I’m sorry!” Rhine, stung by Qiao Wei’s look, felt her eyes redden, all her usual pride stripped away as she bowed her head in silence. Qiao Wei, however, showed no reaction, as if they were monsters to be feared.
Luoxuan waved his hand to dismiss Rhine and, avoiding Qiao Wei’s gaze, forced a smile. “Well now, Qiao Qiao hasn’t answered my question yet. So naughty.”
Qiao Wei stared coldly at Luoxuan, her lips parting to utter two words: “Go away.” There was no warmth in her tone—her words were as icy as a frozen spring, making Luoxuan’s heart ache.
Qiao Wei tried to get up and leave, only to discover she couldn’t move. Luoxuan, reading her intention, spoke carefully, “Your soul is with Su Mo. I’ll help you retrieve it.”
“Why am I not dead?” At the mention of Su Mo, Qiao Wei’s lashes trembled faintly. Suddenly, a fierce thirst welled up in her throat, something wild and uncontrollable seemed to be growing deep within her teeth.
“Aah!” Qiao Wei, in agony, tried to rise but couldn’t. Noticing the change in her, Luoxuan brought over the human girl captured the previous night and, with a finger, gently scored the girl’s neck, causing blood to well up.
Qiao Wei’s eyes instantly turned crimson, her reason obliterated as she fixed her gaze on the blood, as if she would pounce at any moment.
Luoxuan helped Qiao Wei up, and the girl instinctively offered her neck. Qiao Wei’s teeth sharpened to points, and she drank without hesitation, savoring the girl’s blood until it ran dry. Only then did she stop, dazed, and before she could say a word, she fainted.
Luoxuan gently wiped the blood from Qiao Wei’s lips, laid her carefully on the bed, and left the room.
No sooner had he stepped out than Rhine approached. “Your Highness, did you save Qiao Wei’s life by turning her?”
“It was the only way. Take good care of her. I’m going to find Su Mo.” Luoxuan frowned, spoke hurriedly, and disappeared through the door.
