A Heartbreaking Conversation
Luo Chen looked at Qiao Wei, whose lips had turned purple from the cold, and immediately found a jacket and gently helped her put it on. As he gazed into Qiao Wei's dark eyes, a warmth inexplicably stirred within him. After a long silence, he spoke softly, "Do you realize that if you hadn't taken me outside just now, both you and I would have died?"
"I know," Qiao Wei replied earnestly, her eyes glistening with moisture as she looked at Luo Chen. "I will always stay by your side."
Luo Chen lowered his head, looking at Qiao Wei, who was a head shorter than him. He saw this ordinary yet resilient girl and was unable to speak for a long time.
"I like you, Luo Chen," Qiao Wei said with a faint smile, as if talking to herself. "I know your heart belongs to Su Mo, and no one can replace her. But I just want… to stay by your side. As long as I can see your smile, I am happy. I don’t even know when I started liking you. Maybe it was when you treated me gently, thinking I was Su Mo; maybe it was your kiss; maybe it was when you saved me in the cave; maybe it was when you spared my life and kept protecting me… Or perhaps, I liked you from the very first moment we met. I want to help you, Luo Chen. I want to see you smile every day."
Hearing Qiao Wei's words, guilt welled up in Luo Chen's heart. He wiped away her tears, gently patted her back, pressed a kiss to her forehead, and whispered softly in her ear, "I will always protect you. But I'm sorry, Qiao Wei. The one I love is Su Mo."
Qiao Wei felt a pang in her heart, but forced a smile as she said to Luo Chen, "I saw Su Mo today. She came out from the pendant, saved me from the illusion, and reminded me to find you." As she spoke, she pointed to the pendant.
Luo Chen looked at Qiao Wei's reddened eyes and pale smile, feeling a twinge of pity. This girl made his heart ache; though she was clearly devastated, she still pretended to be indifferent. He smiled and nodded, saying, "Mm… I know. I will rescue her."
Qiao Wei wanted to flee from Luo Chen. She tried to keep her voice calm as she said, "Mm… haha, then… I’m going to rest now. I’m very tired today. Let’s search for the Secret Chest tomorrow, okay?"
Luo Chen nodded and released her. Qiao Wei quickly turned away, and the tears she had held back began to flow. As she walked upstairs, she quietly wept, feeling as if her tears would never stop and her heart had gone numb from the pain.
"Qiao Wei," Luo Chen suddenly called out to her from where he stood.
Qiao Wei stopped, but did not turn around. Luo Chen continued, "If one day I do something wrong, will you forgive me?"
Qiao Wei wiped away her tears. When she turned, her face bloomed with a smile as pure as a white rose. "I won't forgive you, haha… Just kidding. It's nothing. I’ll go to sleep now."
"Mm. Good night." Luo Chen watched as Qiao Wei’s frail figure disappeared behind the closed door, and muttered to himself, feeling guilty, "Is it really possible?"
