Luo Chen and Qiao Wei moved forward in the pitch-black cave, where the darkness was so thick they couldn’t see their own hands in front of them. Qiao Wei felt a growing fear in her heart and could only stumble along behind Luo Chen, her steps uneven and uncertain.

They had no idea how long they’d been walking when, suddenly, Luo Chen noticed a sliver of light at the deepest part of the cave. He turned to caution Qiao Wei before quickly striding toward it. Qiao Wei hurried after him at a run, breathless as she followed Luo Chen into the very heart of the cave.

The scene inside left Qiao Wei stunned: at the center of the cavern lay a gigantic monster. Atop its head grew a long, sharp horn, and its entire body was covered in black scales. A long tail curled behind it, and though its form resembled a lion’s, it was several times larger than any lion she had ever seen. Its eyes were tightly shut, as if it were dead. Overhead, a great hole in the cave ceiling let in daylight, bathing the cavern in a pale glow.

Qiao Wei saw Luo Chen gazing motionlessly at the monster’s neck. Following his gaze, she noticed a semi-transparent key hanging from the creature’s throat. Delighted, she exclaimed, "Luo Chen, I see the key!"

Some unknown courage welled up within her, and she ran to the monster’s side, reaching out to take the key. But the moment her fingers brushed against it, the monster’s eyes suddenly flew open—two ice-blue orbs locked onto Qiao Wei with a deadly stare. Before Luo Chen could react, the beast raised a massive paw and pinned Qiao Wei to the ground, its voice cold and menacing: "How dare you try to steal the key from me, Sarak, the guardian! Do you wish to die? I’ll devour you!"

Pinned beneath Sarak, Qiao Wei felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She barely had time to think before Sarak opened its gaping maw, ready to swallow her whole. Just as despair overtook her and she thought her life was over, Sarak suddenly closed its eyes and collapsed. Luo Chen had driven his sword straight into Sarak’s heart.

Luo Chen hurried to help Qiao Wei up, scolding her angrily: "Do you have any sense at all? If it were that easy to take, I would have grabbed it myself! Do you know how close you were to dying just now? You’re nothing but trouble!"

Qiao Wei lowered her head in guilt, whispering, "I’m sorry, I—"

"Move!" Luo Chen shouted, spotting Sarak silently standing behind Qiao Wei, alive once more. As the beast raised a paw to strike, Luo Chen shoved Qiao Wei out of the way and lunged with his sword at Sarak’s heart. This time, Sarak dodged nimbly aside, cackling, "You can’t kill me! Ha ha!"

Suddenly, the sharp horn atop Sarak’s head emitted a swirling purple smoke, quickly filling the cavern. In an instant, Sarak vanished from sight. Luo Chen, realizing the danger, shouted to Qiao Wei, "Don’t breathe!"

But it was too late. Qiao Wei’s eyes slowly turned completely black, like two bottomless pits. She picked up the sword Sarak had dropped, and, moving like a puppet, began to walk toward Luo Chen.
