Chapter 33: One More Novice
There was another person crouched beside Hua Tianyu, clutching his head—Kang Jun, the lobby manager who hadn’t managed to escape in time. Kang Jun was miserable; it seemed these people’s conflict wasn’t just about the private room—there was clearly some old grudge between them. In the private room, barely a few words had been exchanged before fists started flying.
Sigh! If things got broken, who would he get to pay for the damages? Should he go to the victorious Juyi Martial Arts School? Heh, they might break a few more things for good measure. Should he turn to the ones who got beaten to a pulp? They were already half-dead; it hardly seemed appropriate to demand compensation from them. If neither side paid, he, as the lobby manager, would have to foot the bill...
Lost in these tangled thoughts, he soon noticed that only groans could be heard from the ground. He cautiously poked his head out for a look. To his surprise, the two from Juyi Martial Arts School were sprawled on the floor, while that “idiot” was sitting there calmly, leisurely draining the last bottle of beer.
A cold shiver ran down Kang Jun’s spine—this man was even more ruthless than he’d thought! As for the damages, if someone could knock Meng Yaowu to the ground, Kang Jun knew better than to ask them for anything...
But as he took a careful glance around the private room, he realized not only was the table untouched, but not even a single plate had been upturned. What exactly had happened just now? His curiosity was piqued.
The hearts of the Sha brothers, Sha Jin and Sha Yin, had plummeted. Only moments ago, when they saw Master Meng make his move, they were filled with hope and excitement. In the blink of an eye, the very master they’d pinned their hopes on was lying on the ground, wailing. Now, they didn’t even know what they were supposed to do.
Following Meng Yaowu’s gaze, Sha Jin saw the chopsticks stabbed into Meng’s hand and suddenly felt a chill run down his spine. His previously uninjured left hand couldn’t seem to grip tightly any longer...
Just looking at that was painful!
Hua Tianyu finally finished the last drop of beer and turned to the two brothers, who stood frozen in the doorway. “So, are you ready to tell me who you really are? Or is it that my good looks have somehow offended you?”
Sha Jin was speechless. Only now did he realize that the revenge he’d worked so hard to seek out meant nothing to the other party—Hua Tianyu didn’t even recognize him. That was truly a blow to his pride...
Seeing the brothers remain silent, Hua Tianyu tapped his chopsticks impatiently on the table, making Sha Jin’s eyelids twitch and his hands tremble uncontrollably.
With a trembling voice, Sha Jin finally answered, “A few days ago, at the Fortune Hotel—we’re bodyguards for Young Master Zhuang Wei.”
Hua Tianyu blinked and thought for a moment. Oh, that did ring a bell.
Cui Quan glanced at Hua Tianyu’s nonchalant demeanor across the table, recalling the movie-like scene that had just unfolded. Hands still shaking, he raised his glass and downed his wine in one gulp.
Then, as if making a resolute decision, he straightened up and declared, “Brother Tian, I... I want to follow you!”
Hua Tianyu nodded. Cui Quan had a decent character and was honest; there was no harm in letting him join. “For now, just stay with the security team and do as I told you earlier. Don’t worry about anything else—I’ll handle it.”
“Alright!” Cui Quan’s heart raced. The security department was probably about to undergo a major shake-up...
Any change in a department manager was no small matter. Early that morning, Liang Hui had finally completed the procedures for changing the head of security. She’d intended for Hua Tianyu and Cheng Feng to handle the handover that day, only to discover that Cheng Feng was still on leave, not due back until tomorrow. After making the rounds searching for Hua Tianyu, she finally found him in the CEO’s office.
Liang Hui was a bit annoyed. Now that Hua Tianyu knew he was the new security manager, shouldn’t he be spending more time familiarizing himself with his new role? Why was he always hanging around Wei Xueying instead?
“Why do you show no interest in your new job at all?” Liang Hui questioned, glaring at Hua Tianyu as he lounged on the sofa.
He ignored her, his gaze shifting back and forth between her and Wei Xueying’s ample figures. He even gestured with his hands, then smacked his lips, finally declaring with certainty, “At last, I can tell—Xueying wins by a narrow margin.”
“What?” Liang Hui was baffled.
“Comparing size,” Hua Tianyu explained.
“Comparing what? ...Hey! Hua Tianyu, you scoundrel!” Realization dawned on Liang Hui, and her eyes widened in outrage.
“I meant your eyes are just a bit smaller than Xueying’s. Why so worked up?” Hua Tianyu replied, feigning innocence.
“Oh? I thought you meant...” Liang Hui faltered, at a loss for words.
“What did you think I meant? Ah! You actually thought I was talking about...” Hua Tianyu shook his head in mock sorrow, looking deeply disappointed. “I never imagined you were that kind of person!”
“Why do you always come up with these tricks? Liang Hui, don’t listen to his nonsense!” Wei Xueying interjected, exposing Hua Tianyu’s mischief.
Liang Hui finally pieced it together. That rascal’s eyes had been darting between her and Wei Xueying’s chests; how could he possibly have been comparing their eyes?
“I have something to do, I’ll be going now...” Before Liang Hui could explode, Hua Tianyu had already slipped out of the CEO’s office.
It wasn’t until he’d completely disappeared that Liang Hui remembered she’d come to assign him his duties as head of security. In the end, she hadn’t said a thing before he’d left. This Hua Tianyu really was a handful.
As she thought about it, her gaze couldn’t help but drift back and forth between her and Wei Xueying’s chests several times.
That scoundrel—how am I any smaller?
...
Hua Tianyu truly did have something urgent to attend to. He’d just received a WeChat message from Lin Lin, and the first sentence had startled him. Now that he was out, he quickly began to reply.
Lin Lin: You can’t get in touch with my dad either, can you?
Hua Tianyu: No, I can’t.
Lin Lin: Then do something for my dad.
Hua Tianyu: I draw the line at murder and arson.
Lin Lin: How about just getting scolded?
Hua Tianyu: ...
Half an hour later, Hua Tianyu arrived at Shangjiang Academy.
This time, Lin Lin was waiting for him right downstairs at the dormitory, which made him a little disappointed—he wouldn’t get to see his favorite “white rabbit” classmate today...
From a distance, Lin Lin spotted him and immediately grabbed his arm. “Remember, in a moment you’re my dad, got it?”
Hua Tianyu was speechless.
“Did you hear me? Remember, or you’re in for it!” Lin Lin warned him.
“I’m not afraid of trouble!” Hua Tianyu grinned. If he wasn’t afraid of death, why should he fear a little trouble?
“I am! Satisfied?” Lin Lin shot him a look and dragged him forward.
“Did you fail your makeup exam?” Hua Tianyu didn’t budge, so Lin Lin had to tug harder.
“Yes, so what?” Lin Lin snapped back, but now that things were out in the open, she just let it be. She was curious to see what Hua Tianyu could actually do about it.
