Chapter 160: Wang Hong's Home
Regarding this matter, Wei Xueying had asked Hua Tianyu more than once before, but had never received a true answer.
"Hua Tianyu, can you stop talking nonsense?" Wei Xueying added.
Hua Tianyu glanced at Wei Xueying, who was asking sincerely, through the rearview mirror, and slowly said, "Actually, you really don't need to dwell on what I used to do in the military. Chinese soldiers, regardless of their branch, share only one purpose, and that is to protect China!"
"Protect China..." Wei Xueying muttered to herself.
Throughout the rest of the journey, she did not ask Hua Tianyu this question again. She knew that perhaps the answer Hua Tianyu gave today was the final one.
Soon after dropping off Wei Xueying, Hua Tianyu returned to the building to pick up Wang Hong.
This time, Wang Hong finally hesitated no longer. She directly got into the CEO's dedicated car and drove straight to her home.
She had originally expected her mother to be waiting downstairs just like last time, but there was no sign of her.
Hua Tianyu had already prepared himself to be surrounded by onlookers and had even discussed with Wang Hong that the two of them would try to break through the crowd at top speed.
However, when they arrived at the destination, Wang Hong's mother was nowhere to be seen.
Even Wang Hong was surprised. Had her mother actually changed her ways?
After pondering for a moment, Wang Hong guessed, "Perhaps my younger brother is back."
"You have a younger brother?" Hua Tianyu asked.
"Yes, I do." Mentioning her brother, Wang Hong let out a slight sigh.
Noticing the helplessness in Wang Hong's tone, Hua Tianyu asked, "What's wrong with your brother?"
"It's nothing much, he just always makes my mom angry. Right now, he's probably the only one who could make my mom change her routine and stop waiting downstairs for me!" Wang Hong replied.
"It's fine, don't worry too much, I'm here for everything!" Hua Tianyu comforted her.
Parking spaces near Wang Hong's home were hard to come by. After finally finding one some distance away, he locked the car, and the two of them walked side by side toward the apartment building.
Wang Hong's home was not wealthy; it could even be described as impoverished. Although it was a multi-story apartment building, it was actually one of those old buildings decades old, not a modern residential compound.
Even in the North District, an area heavily concentrated with slums, such buildings were a dime a dozen and belonged to the lower-middle tier of living conditions.
Such apartments were only around forty square meters, consisting of a single room. The better ones included a small dining area, while the worse ones combined dining and sleeping into the exact same space.
Therefore, a couple of days ago, Hu Dongmei's single shout of "son-in-law" had been enough to draw the attention of many neighbors.
As the two slowly walked downstairs, Hua Tianyu noticed that something was amiss.
A van was parked by the entrance downstairs, its windows tinted completely black. Standing beside the vehicle were two men smoking, both with completely shaved bald heads. On their exposed arms, one had a dragon tattooed, and the other had a tiger.
The old, dilapidated doors at the entrance of the building had been defaced with large red characters: Pay back your debts!
A bucket of red paint and a brush lay right at the feet of the two men.
Hua Tianyu's eyes narrowed, and he immediately understood. These were loan sharks coming to collect debts!
The same routine, the same methods. Loan shark debt collection all over the world followed the exact same pattern, completely devoid of originality.
Hua Tianyu thought with inward disdain.
Seeing a man and a woman walking toward the building, the two thugs blew out rings of smoke and eyed them sideways.
Hua Tianyu ignored the two of them, pushed open the building door, and prepared to enter.
"Hey, beauty, where are you headed?" The tiger-tattooed thug extended a leg, blocking the entrance, and stared fixedly at Wang Hong's chest as he asked.
"Going home!" With Hua Tianyu by her side, Wang Hong gained a bit of courage and answered loudly.
"Apartment 201?" asked the other, dragon-tattooed thug.
"What business is it of yours?" Wang Hong retorted with disgust.
Yet inwardly, a shock ran through her. Why did this person not ask about any other apartment, but specifically her home? Could something have happened at home?
A thought stirred in Hua Tianyu's mind. Before coming here, he had heard Wang Hong mention that her home was 201, and now these two thugs asked this way. Could something really have happened at Wang Hong's place?
"Hehe, so it really is Apartment 201?" The tiger-tattooed thug read the expressions and caught the trace of panic on Wang Hong's face.
"This chick must be that old hag's daughter, right? And this punk must be the rich son-in-law the old hag was talking about!"
As he spoke, the tiger-tattooed thug lowered his leg, clearing the path upstairs.
The thug's words caused Wang Hong's expression to change drastically. She had not expected that everything was fine this morning, only for such trouble to be waiting at home when she came back from work.
However, she understood in her heart that this matter was nine times out of ten caused by her good-for-nothing brother!
She just had no idea about the current situation of her mother and brother. Judging by the large red-paint characters written downstairs, things probably weren't looking good up in the apartment either. She could only hope that both of them were safe.
"Hehe, go on up! We've got good luck today—throw out a net, and we catch the whole family!" The dragon-tattooed thug laughed twice, his tone full of smugness.
Worried about the situation at home, Wang Hong bolted upstairs the moment the tiger-tattooed thug cleared the path. Hua Tianyu didn't waste any words with the two thugs at the entrance and followed her upstairs.
As soon as they reached the second floor, they heard Wang Hong's mother's voice echoing from inside the apartment.
"I'm telling you, my son-in-law is a rich man! He doesn't even care about your mere hundreds of thousands! He'll be here any minute now, and if you dare lay a finger on my son again, I'll fight you to the death!"
"That's right, not only is my brother-in-law a rich man, but I'm also one of Brother Tian's men. If you dare hit me again, try it!"
Aside from Wang Hong's mother, another somewhat familiar voice reached Hua Tianyu's ears.
Moreover, the person had called someone "Brother Tian." Hua Tianyu could guarantee that he should know the person speaking, he just didn't know who it was yet!
"Mom!" Hearing her mother's voice, Wang Hong cried out and anxiously rushed through the front door.
"Wang Hong, son-in-law! You're both back!"
Wang Hong's mother finally caught sight of Wang Hong and Hua Tianyu through the doorway, overjoyed, and trotted out.
"We've been waiting for you for so long, why are you only just back?"
Hua Tianyu wore an awkward yet polite smile, desperately wanting to say: *Auntie, nothing has happened between me and your daughter yet. Well, at most we held hands. Could you please stop calling me son-in-law every other word? The pressure you're putting on me is immense!*
"Brother-in-law!... Ah, Brother Tian? Why is it you?" Wang Hong's younger brother also came running out behind his mother. He had just called out "brother-in-law," only to discover that the person accompanying his sister back was actually Hua Tianyu!
"So it was you, punk!" Hua Tianyu finally saw who had been the owner of that vaguely familiar voice.
He never expected that Wang Hong's younger brother would turn out to be him. The contrast between these two people was simply too massive!
