Chapter 159: Using a Pen
"Brother Tian!" Wang Zhengyi finally changed his form of address, calling out with genuine sincerity rather than addressing Hua Tianyu formally as Manager Hua like he had just a moment ago.
"Are you alright?" Hua Tianyu's gaze fell on his right leg.
"I'm fine, just need a day's rest and I'll be good as new!" Wang Zhengyi replied.
"Good! Take tomorrow off to rest. Starting the day after tomorrow, you will be in charge of training the Swan Security team. Anyone not currently on guard duty or patrol will be under your direct command for training sessions!"
"There are no other special requirements, except that I want you to manage and train them in a completely militarized manner."
"If you have any other needs, just say the word. As long as it's within my power, I'll grant it!"
Hua Tianyu did not stand on ceremony; since Wang Zhengyi had already submitted to him, he laid out his expectations directly.
Wang Zhengyi was stunned at first. He had not expected to be entrusted with such a heavy responsibility the moment he joined. This profound trust deeply moved him.
"Mission guaranteed!" Wang Zhengyi snapped to attention with a sharp click of his heels, completely ignoring the pain in his right leg!
Hua Tianyu had his own reasons for handing him this task.
Firstly, having just been discharged from the military, Wang Zhengyi still maintained exemplary soldierly discipline. Secondly, he was a former commander of a special operations team, meaning leading a security force of several dozen people would be an effortless task for him.
"If any issues arise, coordinate with Cui Quan in a timely manner."
As the first veteran to follow him, Hua Tianyu firmly established Cui Quan's status.
"Rest assured, Brother Tian, I guarantee to whip them into a top-tier security force in the shortest time possible!" Wang Zhengyi made a solemn military pledge.
Hua Tianyu nodded in satisfaction, then called Cui Quan in from the doorway. After briefing the two men on a few key points, he washed his hands of security department matters and resumed his usual leisurely and laid-back routine inside Swan Tower.
He took advantage of a free moment to visit the Human Resources Department. During the interviews earlier, it seemed Wang Hong had wanted to say something to him but never found the right opportunity.
Now that the paperwork for the newly hired guards was all processed, he dropped by to see what Wang Hong had wanted to tell him earlier.
Wang Hong had just finished sorting the documents on her desk. Her eyes lit up the moment she saw Hua Tianyu, though they dimmed just as quickly.
Seeing this expression on the young woman's face, Hua Tianyu knew she undoubtedly had something she wanted to say but couldn't bring herself to voice.
"Ha, what on earth is it? Look at how hesitant you are!" Hua Tianyu chuckled as he sauntered over and stood beside her.
Wang Hong glanced sideways at Zhong Xiaoyan, noticing that she was cocking her ears and listening intently to the movement over here. Deciding against speaking aloud, she picked up a pen and jotted a few words on a piece of paper: My mom wants you to come over for dinner.
Hua Tianyu pondered this. Even though Wang Hong's mother had practically frightened him off yesterday, a sincere invitation—especially backed by Wang Hong herself—meant he was still inclined to accept.
He made an OK gesture at Wang Hong, then picked up the pen and wrote: Wait for me in the office after work today. I'll drop President Wei off at home and then come pick you up.
Wang Hong let out a long sigh of relief. She had been terribly worried that her mother's attitude yesterday would scare Hua Tianyu away for good.
Yet if he truly refused to come, the pressure from her mother would leave her utterly distressed.
Fortunately, Hua Tianyu agreed without a moment's hesitation, finally allowing the heavy stone in her heart to settle.
Watching from the side, Zhong Xiaoyan was utterly baffled. Have you two unlocked some kind of extraordinary new skill?
Do you chat exclusively in writing now?
Zhong Xiaoyan stood up, intending to make a trip to the restroom that "happened" to pass right behind Wang Hong, just to "casually" catch a glimpse of what the two of them had written.
Rip... Wang Hong tore the chat paper straight in half.
Zhong Xiaoyan: "..."
Leaving Wang Hong's desk, Hua Tianyu opened a certain online shopping app and began browsing carefully.
Upon inspecting the sedan he planned to use for the race yesterday, Hua Tianyu had discovered that while its front wheels featured disc brakes, the rear wheels were still equipped with drum brakes.
As a relatively primitive braking system, the working principle of drum brakes can be aptly visualized using a coffee cup. The brake drum is like the coffee cup, and when you stretch five fingers into a rotating coffee cup, your fingers act as the brake pads. As long as you spread your five fingers outward to press against the inner wall of the coffee cup, the cup will stop spinning.
This type of braking mechanism was completely unsuited for high-speed racing. Judging by either the response time when pressing the brake pedal or the braking efficiency itself, drum brakes were an absolute no-go.
The working principle of disc brakes, on the other hand, can be compared to a plate: when you pinch a spinning plate between your thumb and forefinger, the plate stops rotating.
Even the most professional race cars nowadays utilize disc brakes, though compared to regular passenger cars, professional racing vehicles employ electrical actuators while ordinary cars rely on hydraulic braking.
Hua Tianyu could afford to leave the actuators alone, but the brakes had to be replaced entirely; otherwise, a section where he intended to execute a high-speed drift could easily result in the car flying straight off the track.
Upgrading the braking system, however, would require modifying the vehicle's entire electronic control system. In a minor city like Shangjiang, Hua Tianyu did not believe anyone was worth his trouble to go to such lengths.
Therefore, aside from the rear braking system, he had no intention of modifying any other parts of the sedan at all!
After spending some time placing his orders, he checked the time and realized it was the end of the workday. Hua Tianyu parked the pink Jaguar right at the building's entrance.
Once Wei Xueying got into the car, Hua Tianyu noticed that she wore the exact same hesitant, tongue-tied expression Wang Hong had worn earlier.
"Xueying, does your dad want to invite me over for dinner too?" Hua Tianyu asked with a smile.
Wei Xueying: "..."
What kind of nonsense is this? Just what is going on inside Hua Tianyu's head?
Where on earth did he get the idea that my dad wants to invite him to dinner?
Still, disrupted by Hua Tianyu's abrupt tangent, Wei Xueying spoke up anyway: "Thank you for putting so much effort into today's recruitment. As for Han焱 today, there was actually a valid reason behind his behavior!"
Hua Tianyu pondered for two seconds: "Stopped taking his medication? Remember for next time, you can't just quit taking your meds arbitrarily."
Wei Xueying: "..."
Wei Xueying decided she must never talk to him about Han焱 again; otherwise, the more he explained, the murkier the whole situation became.
"May I ask you, what exactly did you used to do in the military?" This question was, in truth, the one she had been dying to ask all day long.
Wei Xueying was intensely curious because when Han焱 investigated his background, not only did he turn up absolutely nothing, but Han焱's father had actually chewed Han焱 out severely over the matter—something she knew to be unprecedented.
For Swan Group, knowing that Hua Tianyu was a military veteran was sufficient, but on a personal level, Wei Xueying could not fathom where her sudden surge of curiosity came from; she constantly found herself wanting to unravel Hua Tianyu's past.
Never before had she felt such an overwhelming curiosity about anyone else!
