Chapter 157: Crushing My Hand
"Hehe, Han Yan, you underestimate him!" Hua Tianyu said calmly.
"Underestimate him? Hua Tianyu, who are you trying to fool? Do you dare to make a bet with me?" Han Yan blinked, a trace of cunning flashing in her eyes.
"What is the bet?"
"If I win, you have to shout three times in front of all these people: I am a loser!" Han Yan had never forgotten her intention to seek revenge on Hua Tianyu. Against Hua Tianyu, she only had a fifty-percent chance of winning, but against Wang Zhengyi, she was one hundred percent certain.
"And if you lose?" Hua Tianyu asked with a faint smile.
"Me? Lose? It's impossible for me to lose!" Han Yan pouted and said.
"I mean, just in case."
"If, you say... let me think... if I lose, I will walk around you whenever I see you from now on. If I can't avoid you, I'll call you Brother Tian!" Han Yan said.
"Hehe, it's a deal?"
"A promise from Han Yan is as good as a gold-plated chariot!" Han Yan declared confidently.
Their conversation gave Liang Hui another headache. Just as she thought the two of them had finally stopped fighting, they were at it again in no time.
She had no idea what was wrong with President Wei's best friend; she just had to lock horns with Hua Tianyu!
Sigh, her head hurt!
Wang Hong quietly tugged at the back of Hua Tianyu's shirt and whispered, "Brother Tian, why don't you call off the bet with Miss Han? You don't know anything about that Wang Zhengyi."
Wang Hong's heart was entirely with Hua Tianyu. She was worried that even if losing the bet seemed like a small matter, shouting "I am a loser" three times in front of the entire security department would ruin his reputation as the security manager—how could he possibly face anyone in the future?
Hua Tianyu turned his head slightly and comforted her in a soft voice, "Trust Brother Tian, don't worry!"
"Bring it on!" Han Yan assumed her stance, focusing all her attention.
Wang Zhengyi did not waste any words. He too took up a combat posture, his eyes fixed firmly on Han Yan.
Having learned her lesson from last time, Han Yan refrained from using her kicks this time. Instead, she threw a direct right punch, keeping her left hand coiled and ready as a reserve.
She waited only for Wang Zhengyi to block, at which point her left hand would strike with a surprise counterattack.
To her surprise, Wang Zhengyi did not bother to block at all. Instead, mirroring her exact move, he unleashed a fierce punch of his own, leaving his left hand similarly coiled and unreleased.
Hua Tianyu smiled slightly. The combat techniques of both individuals originated from the military system of Huaxia; both favored a bold and sweeping style, to the point where even their moves were identical.
Therefore, stripped of any technical advantages, what the two were truly competing in was purely physical attributes such as punching speed and raw strength. How could someone with Wang Zhengyi's physique possibly lose?
Sure enough, five minutes later, Han Yan—who had traded blows with Wang Zhengyi repeatedly—shook her right hand between clashes. It was a hard collision, and the impact had hurt.
Ten minutes later, Han Yan's left hand began shaking out as well, and beads of sweat dotted her forehead.
Fifteen minutes later, with a dull thud, their knees crashed violently against each other. Han Yan let out a cry of pain and staggered back several large steps. Having secured the hit, Wang Zhengyi did not press the attack, but instead firmly reset his stance.
Hua Tianyu nodded. The outcome was decided; there was no need to continue. This Wang Zhengyi had lived up to his expectations and was fully capable of shouldering heavy responsibilities!
"Everyone, head over to the Human Resources Department to process your paperwork. Wang Zhengyi, stay behind for a moment after you finish; I have something to tell you," Hua Tianyu instructed.
As for Han Yan, he did not say anything more to her. Agreeing to let Wang Zhengyi fight her was simply a way to deflate her arrogance for the day.
As for the wager, Hua Tianyu laughed it off. Why bother arguing with a young woman who happened to be Wei Xueying's best friend?
While Hua Tianyu didn't take the bet seriously, Han Yan felt as though her world had turned upside down.
She had thought victory was certain, yet she had lost. Now she couldn't even defeat his subordinate—how was she ever going to exact her revenge in the future?
How on earth was a subordinate recruited by this Hua Tianyu so formidable?
Did she really have to walk around him whenever she saw him from now on? And call him Brother Tian?
Sigh. Ever since she was a child, she had never called anyone "brother." Han Yan didn't even know how the words would leave her mouth; she was overwhelmed with a deep sense of humiliation.
Stealing a glance at Hua Tianyu, she noticed his attention was elsewhere. Han Yan decided discretion was the better part of valor and prepared to slip away.
"Ouch!" The moment she took a step, a sharp pain radiating from her knee forced a soft groan from her lips.
Han Yan glared bitterly at Hua Tianyu, mentally shifting all the blame for the injury inflicted by Wang Zhengyi directly onto him.
"Let's go!" Suddenly, a large hand slipped under her arm, catching her support. Han Yan looked up, and it was Hua Tianyu again.
"I don't need your help!" Han Yan shoved Hua Tianyu away.
The moment the words left her mouth, the throbbing in her knee caused her right leg to buckle, and her entire body slumped sideways right into Hua Tianyu's embrace.
Her entire weight pressed squarely against the right hand he was using to steady her...
Han Yan: "..."
This bastard! This is the second time, the second time! The first time was in the conference room, and today he pretended to help me—that makes two times...
She instinctively wanted to slap him across the face, but an unusual sensation rippled through her body, draining all the strength from her arms.
Then, Hua Tianyu's gentle voice sounded right beside her ear: "Get up quickly, or you're going to crush my hand!"
Crush his hand...
Crush...
Crush...
Han Yan wished the ground would open up and swallow her. He actually said I was going to crush his hand!
Gritting her teeth, she forced herself upright. Ignoring the agonizing pain in her right knee, she wrenched herself away from Hua Tianyu's grip, turned on her heel, and limped away without looking back.
This Hua Tianyu was simply her nemesis. She was better off staying as far away from him as possible!
Once everyone had dispersed, Hua Tianyu and Liang Hui walked side by side toward the main building.
"Hua Tianyu, your performance as an interviewer today was truly brilliant!" Liang Hui praised sincerely.
"Just so-so! But Liang Hui, you need to have a word with Xueying. Stop letting her dump all sorts of random nonsense onto me. I'm just her little driver—a carefree little driver. If one day she could find it in her heart to take back all those other titles and responsibilities, I'd be happier than ever!" Hua Tianyu said helplessly.
"A carefree little driver? You might be carefree, but you've probably driven Han Yan close to madness. If she had a slightly more fragile heart, she'd probably lock herself in a room by now!"
Liang Hui rolled her eyes at him. Remembering how Han Yan had been thwarted by him twice that morning, she felt this guy was simply too full of tricks; he had nearly driven Han Yan to a nervous breakdown!
...
In the CEO's office, Liang Hui recounted the morning's recruitment process faithfully to Wei Xueying. The account left Wei Xueying completely dumbfounded, utterly bewildered by what on earth went on inside Hua Tianyu's head or how he came up with such bizarre ideas.
Yet, she had to admit that the people Hua Tianyu recruited through these unorthodox methods truly turned out to be the absolute best candidates for security personnel!
Right now, however, there was one more thing she had to do: go comfort her best friend, truly fearing that Han Yan might have suffered a mental breakdown at Hua Tianyu's hands...
