Chapter 137: Silencing the Witnesses (Second Update)
Having just murdered his own master, even the most cold-blooded person would feel a tremor of panic. To Wan Rong, the sound of a cough at that moment was like a crack of spring thunder; he shuddered violently, and the knife slipped from his hand onto the floor.
"Who's there?!" His voice was laced with extreme terror. If he had killed Jiang Liliang and been seen by anyone else, he would become the enemy of the entire Jiang Martial Arts Hall, and there would be no place left for him in Shangjiang City.
"Cough! Cough!" Another cough echoed.
Wan Rong followed the sound and looked over. To his shock, it was Feng Wenhu!
He wasn't dead?
It turned out that when Hua Tianyu kicked Feng Wenhu in the chest, although several ribs were fractured, Feng had merely lost his breath temporarily and hadn't truly died. Now that he had regained consciousness, he remained dazed. The broken ribs had punctured his lung, causing him to cough incessantly.
Just as he opened his eyes, he suddenly felt something heavy pressing down on his injured chest, pinning him in place. As his vision cleared, Feng Wenhu realized with horror that it was Wan Rong standing on his chest.
"Wan Rong, cough, what are you doing, cough..." His lung injury made speaking incredibly difficult.
He had contacted Wan Rong earlier, and Wan Rong had claimed he was delayed by something on the road and would arrive shortly. Feng had intended to report to the Hall Master, only to be struck by a kick and knocked unconscious. He hadn't even clearly seen who kicked him, and his mind was still clouded. Yet, subconsciously, he felt that Wan Rong was one of his own—why was he stepping on him?
Before he could process the thought, he heard Wan Rong’s voice.
"You're seeing things. I'm not Wan Rong; I'm Hua Tianyu! And you aren't awake—you're already dead!"
"What..."
That was Feng Wenhu's final conscious thought. He then felt the foot on his chest suddenly exert immense pressure, piercing his lung entirely. He felt the oxygen being violently drained from his body, his breaths turning into desperate gasps with no air entering. The rapid suffocation caused his face to turn a bruised purple, his hands clawing wildly at the air. Even in death, he never understood why Wan Rong had killed him.
Seeing Feng Wenhu finally take his last breath under his foot, Wan Rong’s pounding heart finally calmed slightly. Having learned his lesson, he checked every other body in the room to ensure there were no survivors before he could truly put his mind at ease.
"Doctor! Security! Someone help!" Now that there were no living souls left in the room, Wan Rong finally felt safe enough to shout at the top of his lungs.
Hearing the cries, Lin Fan and the security guards rushed toward the intensive care unit from different directions. As soon as they pushed the door open, the stench of blood hit them. Lin Fan frowned and scanned the room. Aside from the person standing by the door, his medical intuition told him there was no one left alive. Even he, accustomed to life and death, sighed inwardly: the people here were beyond any doctor's salvation.
"Ring..." A phone began to chime, originating from Jiang Liliang’s corpse, startling everyone present.
Lin Fan looked at Wan Rong. Jiang Liliang’s head was now completely severed from his body, and Lin Fan had no intention of touching the remains and inviting trouble.
"Damn it, it's not my phone ringing, why are you staring at me!" Seeing Lin Fan’s gaze, Wan Rong felt guilty and snapped at him.
"Ring..." No sooner had he cursed than Jiang Liliang’s phone stopped, and Wan Rong’s own phone began to ring.
The eerie timing made Wan Rong’s face turn pale. After a few seconds, he shot a glance at Lin Fan, grabbed his phone, and stepped out of the ward. The caller ID showed Cheng Feng!
"Why isn't Jiang Liliang answering my call!" As soon as he pressed the answer button, Cheng Feng’s roar erupted from the phone.
Wan Rong glanced back toward the ward before speaking slowly: "I'm not sure. I'm not at the hospital right now. I ran into some trouble on the road, but I'm heading there now!"
"Useless! You're all a bunch of useless fools! You were the one who brought in Green-Hair, right? Let me tell you, that idiot has already fallen!"
"What? Green-Hair fell?" Wan Rong had already guessed this outcome, but he had to feign surprise.
"Yes! You idiots, pray for yourselves!" With that, Cheng Feng hung up.
"Idiot! And he hired another idiot; can't get anything done!" After hanging up, Cheng Feng was still seething with rage, grinding his teeth as he cursed. He was currently sitting in the corner of an inconspicuous noodle shop by the street, waiting for his food. Back in the conference room at the Swan International Building, he had known that Green-Hair and his crew were doomed, but he hadn't expected Hua Tianyu to not only dismantle their scheme but also shift the target onto him.
Fortunately, the people at Swan Group hadn't yet realized he was the mastermind behind the incident. He had seized the chance to slip out of the building. If he had waited for the Swan Group to react, he would have had no chance of survival once he fell into the hands of that Hua Tianyu!
"Bad luck," Cheng Feng muttered to himself.
"Sir, your noodles are here."
The shop's only waitress was a clumsy middle-aged woman. In a small street-side noodle shop, neither the owner nor the customers cared much about service, as long as they could fill their stomachs. Passing by Cheng Feng, the waitress was in a hurry because she was carrying two bowls, so she didn't stop, simply setting a bowl down in front of him.
The bowl was filled to the brim with broth, and as she slammed it onto the table, some of the hot liquid splashed onto Cheng Feng’s lap.
"Are you blind?!" Cheng Feng, already on edge, jumped up and hurled the bowl of noodles at the waitress’s head!
The bowl of hot noodles scattered instantly. The bowl struck the waitress in the back, but the noodles flew and landed on the heads of four construction workers at the next table, as well as on the safety helmets they had set down. The noodles had just come out of the pot and were scalding hot, causing the four men to jump up immediately, clutching their heads!
"I'll be damned..." Seeing the men's attire, Cheng Feng realized he had stirred up trouble.
He grabbed his phone from the table and scrambled toward the door, knowing that if he ran any slower, he might lose the ability to run altogether.
"You little turtle, you dare to run!"
"I'll kill you, you bastard!"
By the time Cheng Feng scrambled out of the shop, the four men had recovered from the shock and were chasing after him with furious roars.
