Che Peiqing also chimed in, asking, "Tian Li, you keep going on about how incredible your man is, so where is he? How come you showed up on your motorcycle all by yourself?"
"Yeah, exactly! Tian Li, did you get dumped?"
"What are we even racing for today? You should have just turned around and gone home!"
The members of the Chechi Club began to heckle Tian Li.
Tian Li sneered. While she might act like a kitten in front of Hua Tianyu, she had always been fierce and tough when dealing with outsiders.
Her expression turned icy as she retorted to the hecklers, "When Brother Tian gets here, you lot can just wait to kneel and beg for mercy!"
"Kneel and beg? Ha!" The Chechi Club members erupted in laughter; they were convinced that when it came to racing, they couldn't possibly lose.
Che Peiqing waved his hand to silence his rowdy subordinates, then asked Tian Li the question he cared about most: "What kind of bike does this 'Brother Tian' of yours ride?"
Tian Li raised an eyebrow, patted the seat of her bike, and said, "To beat you, Brother Tian doesn't need anything more than this Jialing of mine!"
"Huh? This Jialing?" Che Peiqing’s eyes widened. "Tian Li, you aren't kidding, are you?"
"You're pitting a 600cc Jialing against my 1000cc Yamaha racing bike? These vehicles aren't even in the same league!"
Upon hearing this, Jia Wenle was stunned for a moment before he burst into delight. "Really? Are you serious?"
Tian Li looked at him with disdain. "Do you think I'm you? I always keep my word!"
Jia Wenle didn't pay attention to her insult; instead, a weight was lifted off his heart. He knew exactly what kind of machine Tian Li was riding. Using that bike to race was no different than handing over a forfeit.
"Tian Li, just how poor is this Brother Tian of yours? He can't even buy you a new motorcycle?" Jia Wenle said, looking at the Jialing with utter contempt. He made sure to speak loudly so everyone around could hear.
Even though Tian Li using this bike was good news for him, he wouldn't miss a chance to mock her "Brother Tian." Tian Li leaving the Chechi Club had ruined his plans to woo her, and he suspected this "Brother Tian" was the reason.
"What? This bike?"
"If I'm not mistaken, that's a domestic 600cc Jialing against an imported 1000cc Yamaha?"
Most of the onlookers had some knowledge of motorcycles. When they heard Tian Li insisting on using that bike to race Che Peiqing, their reaction was far more intense than when they had heard the so-called insider news. Many who had been hesitant about where to place their bets suddenly made up their minds.
Two small-time bookies, seeing that Tian Li had confirmed her choice of bike, ran over to inspect it to set the odds. After all, some bikes might look like a standard Jialing 600cc at first glance, but you could never underestimate how much a dedicated owner might modify it. They had even seen cases where only the frame remained, with everything from the engine to the fuel tank replaced. They needed to see exactly what had been changed.
Tian Li stepped aside generously to let them inspect it, but her gaze drifted toward a black Mercedes approaching from a distance. Following her line of sight, many others noticed the car. Mercedes were not rare, but a Mercedes S-Class was not exactly a common sight.
Jia Wenle felt a surge of excitement. Could it be that legendary big shot? He had met that man by chance at a club a couple of days ago and mentioned today's race, and the man had said he might drop by if he had time. Could he really have come?
The crowd was filled with uneasy speculation, wondering who was inside. Was it some wealthy second-generation heir? Che Peiqing was also baffled. Had he become so famous that even a tycoon would come to grace such a minor, insignificant race with his presence?
While everyone was still confused, Tian Li walked toward the Mercedes as it pulled up smoothly in front of her. The door opened, and a man with a lazy smile stepped out. Almost no one present recognized him. Jia Wenle didn't know him, so it wasn't the "big shot" he was expecting. Che Peiqing didn't recognize him either; none of the wealthy figures he knew looked like this.
To everyone's surprise, Tian Li walked straight up to him and called out, "Brother Tian!"
*This is "Brother Tian"?* Che Peiqing was shocked. He had assumed he was a small-time nobody, but the man drove a Mercedes S-Class. Had Tian Li latched onto a wealthy benefactor? No wonder she wanted to leave the Chechi Club; she probably looked down on it now!
Che Peiqing suddenly wondered if he should cancel the race against this Brother Tian. But with so many people watching, he couldn't bring himself to back down and lose face. He decided to play it by ear; if he could find a way out without losing face, he wouldn't mind canceling.
Jia Wenle was even more stunned. He never expected the "Brother Tian" he had been belittling to show up in a luxury Mercedes S-Class. How did Tian Li, who he hadn't seen in a while, meet someone like this? For a moment, he felt a wave of bitter indignation: *Tian Li, you're actually such a gold-digger! Have you no shame? Is this the decay of morality or the twisting of human nature?* Recalling his earlier insults, he suddenly felt as if his own face were being slapped repeatedly.
A wave of amazement rippled through the crowd, but they didn't know Tian Li, nor were they impressed by her finding a sugar daddy.
"Someone driving a Mercedes wouldn't possibly race a Chechi Club member with a Jialing!"
"Thank goodness! The betting pool hasn't opened yet, and I haven't placed my money, or I would have lost it all today!"
"Damn, I almost fell for this girl's trick!"
Most of the crowd were gamblers, so they were hyper-sensitive to anything that might affect the outcome. Seeing Hua Tianyu arrive in a Mercedes, they began to doubt Tian Li's previous claims. They suspected she was intentionally spreading disinformation, so many went back to watching from the sidelines to see what kind of bike Che Peiqing's opponent would actually use.
The two bookies had just finished checking the Jialing and were conferring with their boss over the phone to finalize the odds when the other protagonist arrived. It wasn't just that he had shown up, but he had arrived in a three-million-dollar luxury car. Would someone driving a car like that really show up to race Che Peiqing on an almost stock 600cc Jialing?
*This girl is truly capable of talking nonsense!* All their work had been for nothing.
At this moment, the entire focus of the venue was on Hua Tianyu, so much so that no one noticed Lin Lin stepping out of the car, nor did anyone notice a few new people arriving in the crowd.
"A mere chauffeur for a CEO, and yet you're acting so arrogant?"
A jarring voice suddenly rang out from behind the crowd.
