Chapter Ninety-Six: Too Late for Regret!
“How dare you refuse to treat him?!”
Fu Bing’s eyes widened in fury.
After finally finding someone who could cure her grandfather’s injuries, the man had suddenly changed his mind and refused to treat him at all?
“Miss Fu, this…” Wei Jianxun said awkwardly.
Didn’t we agree that we were here to ask him for treatment? With the way you’re acting, it looks less like a request and more like an arrest.
“What do you mean, ‘this’? Didn’t he already agree to treat my grandfather? And now he’s changing his mind for no reason.”
Seeing that Qin Mu still gave no response, she pointed at him at once and shouted, “You stop right there!”
“If you dare call out another word, I’ll take your life. Even your grandfather won’t dare make a sound.”
“Do you believe me?”
Qin Mu’s gaze was cold as frost, his expression dark and stern. Even someone of Fu Bing’s distinguished background fell silent at once when his eyes landed on her, no longer daring to speak recklessly.
“Mr. Qin, Fu Bing is only acting out of urgency because she is desperate to save someone. She did not mean any disrespect.”
“She has been spoiled by her family since childhood, so she ended up with this bad temper.”
Seeing that things were turning ugly, Wei Jianxun hurried forward to smooth things over.
“Since she comes from such an esteemed family, she ought to pay even more attention to her manners and not bring disgrace upon Old Master Fu.”
If she could not even speak properly, then no matter how great Old Master Fu’s contributions had been, Qin Mu had no interest in that family.
“Yes, I’ll go back and have someone keep a tight watch on her. As for Old Master Fu’s injuries…”
As Wei Jianxun finished speaking, Qin Mu took a bottle from his pocket, tossed it into Fu Bing’s hands, and then turned to go upstairs.
“Not seeing you out.”
Only after Qin Mu had left did Fu Bing feel she could breathe again. She took several deep breaths in succession.
Watching his retreating figure, she stamped her foot in anger and bit her lower lip, utterly unconvinced.
“Fine, don’t treat him then! What’s so great about that!”
“I refuse to believe that there isn’t a single person in all of Jiang City, in all of the country, who can cure my grandfather!”
Fu Bing’s temper flared. She nearly threw away the little bottle Qin Mu had given her. Fortunately, after a few soothing words from Wei Jianxun, she did not toss it out. Instead, she shoved it carelessly into her handbag and paid it no further mind.
“Uncle Wei, who exactly did you find? He’s far too arrogant. Who does he think he is?” Fu Bing said with a pout and a cold snort.
Wei Jianxun wiped the sweat from his forehead.
“Miss Fu, that bad temper of yours really does need to be corrected.”
Qin Mu was already being patient. If it had been him, and someone had spoken to him like that from the start, he would have called for people to throw them out immediately.
“What did I do?”
“Besides, so many skilled doctors in Jiang City have been helpless against my grandfather’s injuries. He’s so young—how could he possibly know how to cure him?”
“Uncle Wei, you must have misjudged him this time.”
Wei Jianxun could only shake his head with a bitter smile.
Whether he had misjudged him or not, he did not know.
But he did know that Fu Bing’s little tantrum had cost her a fine stroke of destiny.
...
After driving back to the Fu family estate, Fu Bing hurried to the main house and sat beside the sickbed.
Lying on the bed was an old man with a face lined by wrinkles and skin drained of all color.
After several major operations in a row, even a hardened man like Fu Yuantu was beginning to struggle.
Yet before his own granddaughter, he still put on a composed front as though nothing were wrong.
“Look at me, girl—am I not still sturdy as ever? I’m fine.”
Fu Bing held Fu Yuantu’s hand and could feel no warmth in it at all. There was not even the slightest trace of blood flowing through it. It was cold to the core.
She could keep her expression steady on the outside, but inside she was in agony, unable to breathe.
The Fu family was one of those old-fashioned households that placed great weight on tradition and had always favored sons over daughters, so Fu Bing had long endured the family’s cold treatment.
Only Fu Yuantu had opposed the family’s outdated thinking, treated all the younger generation equally, and even cherished Fu Bing more than the rest.
So when she suddenly learned that her beloved grandfather, who had always been in robust health, was actually suffering from serious injuries, she had nearly broken down.
“Grandfather, you’ve always been lucky. You’ll make it through this, for sure.”
Fu Bing clasped Fu Yuantu’s hands in both of hers, hoping to give him a little more warmth.
Wei Jianxun stood at the doorway, watching the grandfather and granddaughter with comfort and did not interrupt.
But just then, a burst of commotion sounded from outside the corridor.
“Make it through? If you ask me, this old relic would be better off dead sooner.”
Fu Bing’s delicate brows snapped together. She stood up at once, wanting to see who could possibly speak such outrageous words.
A man in his thirties entered, broad-shouldered and imposing, his features sharp and lively. He stood in stark contrast to the frail Fu Yuantu lying on the sickbed.
The one who had spoken just now was the glamorous woman beside him, who looked to be in her mid-to-late twenties. She wore a dazzling purple dress of layered gauze, opulent and eye-catching.
“The Xie siblings!”
Looking at the pair, Fu Bing bit her cherry-colored lip and forced out those few words through clenched teeth.
“You old thing, why are you still not dead? Do you know my brother has been waiting for your seat for a very long time?” Xie Tingting pointed at Fu Yuantu and cursed.
If Fu Bing and Wei Jianxun had not been present, given the Xie family’s arrogance, she might have stuck her finger right into Fu Yuantu’s face while speaking.
“Who told you to come up here? You’re not welcome here! Get out now!” Fu Bing snapped angrily.
“I don’t even want to come to this filthy place. It’s foul and reeks, and it lowers my standing,” Xie Tingting said loftily.
“But I have to come. I need to keep an eye on whether your immortal old grandfather is finally going to kick the bucket. Once I know, it’ll be easier for my big brother to take that seat.”
“That seat will go to no one in your Xie family!”
Facing this brother-and-sister pair, who wielded tremendous power, Fu Bing seemed somewhat overmatched, her momentum still lacking a little.
“Hahaha, little girl, are you still daydreaming here?”
