Chapter 136: I Am Her Husband!
A torrential rain lashed across the entirety of Jiangcheng. The storm raged throughout the night, as if a frigid typhoon were sweeping through the city, unrelenting.
As the heavy wooden doors were pushed open, a spray of rain slanted inward, drenching the guests seated in the back rows. Under normal circumstances, given their status, they would have been furious, erupting into loud reprimands. But at this moment, they paid no heed to such trivialities. Every eye was fixed on the newcomer, attempting to discern exactly who this sudden intruder might be.
Qin Mu, his expression cold and stern, gave a gentle push with both hands, swinging the heavy cathedral doors wide open.
Boom!
A thunderclap followed, deafeningly close; the lightning and the roar arrived almost simultaneously. Many guests, who had been mesmerized by Qin Mu’s entrance, were jolted back to reality by the thunder. Yet, as the purple-white glow of the lightning bathed the newcomer, it only served to make him appear more enigmatic.
Qin Mu did not linger. He immediately stepped forward. With every step his military boots took, there was not a sound, yet they left deep indentations in the plush red carpet that refused to fade—a sight that left the onlookers breathless.
Watching the familiar figure approach, Luo Shui covered her face with her hands, struggling to hold back her tears. She let out a small sob, then forced a smile. She remembered him saying that she didn't look pretty when she cried. She lifted the hem of her gown with her white-gloved hands and stepped forward to meet him.
"Luo Shui!" Jiang Qi, sensing that the situation was slipping out of his control, shouted a sharp warning. How could his bride-to-be run toward another man?
But as Qin Mu stepped through the door and came into clear view, Jiang Qi felt his heart contract violently, followed by a thunderous, frantic pounding that left him dizzy. No matter how he had speculated, he had never imagined that the person arriving would be this man surnamed Qin!
"I know exactly what I'm doing!" Luo Shui replied, her voice cold and clipped. She didn't even want to glance at Jiang Qi; she simply lifted her skirt and walked forward.
"Luo Shui!" Jiang Qi glared, his hand shooting out with force, intent on grabbing her arm again. But this time, Luo Shui shifted slightly, evading him. She raised her hand, poised to strike Jiang Qi across the face, but paused halfway, seemingly reconsidering, and lowered it.
"Luo Shui, you still care about me," Jiang Qi said, feeling relieved that she hadn't struck him. But before his smile could last two seconds, he heard Luo Shui turn her back to him and say coldly:
"I’d be dirtying my hand if I hit you!"
The words caused Jiang Qi’s smile to freeze rigidly on his face, leaving him looking like a pathetic, bumbling clown.
Ignoring Jiang Qi completely, Luo Shui walked nimbly down the steps, with Shen Yue following close behind to lift her train. Not until she had hurried halfway down the carpet to stand before Qin Mu did she catch her breath, looking intently into his face.
"You said... you were busy today?" Luo Shui’s reddened nose twitched, and she spoke weakly, like someone who had just been wronged.
Qin Mu smiled and reached out, tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear without saying a word. That simple gesture was enough; Luo Shui bowed her head slightly, her face blooming with the joy of a little girl whose wish had been granted.
He had said he was busy today. Was this not what he meant? He had known about her birthday all along and had come to stand up for her.
But... Luo Shui suddenly felt a pang of worry. Given the power of Jiang Qi and the Jiang family, could Qin Mu truly face them head-on?
She was not the only one with such doubts. The guests present were equally uncertain. They had stared for quite a while, but no one could identify the young man. Still, for him to dare cause such a scene—did he really think the elites of Jiangnan were pushovers? These aristocrats had always stood together, their fortunes inextricably linked.
"Do not be afraid. I am here."
Having said this, Qin Mu stepped forward, shielding Luo Shui behind him, and looked squarely at the various Jiangnan celebrities and Jiang Qi standing on the high platform.
"How did you get here?" Jiang Qi stared at Qin Mu with bloodshot eyes, his voice dripping with malice, as if looking at the man who had killed his father. By his calculations, even if Qin Mu had abandoned his sister and headed straight here, there wouldn't have been enough time. Not to mention the city-wide traffic jams caused by the storm.
"Do you want to know?" Qin Mu raised his hand and pointed upward.
Jiang Qi frowned, and just as he prepared to look up, a frantic mechanical whirring and a piercing sound tore through the air!
*Woom, woom, woom!!!*
A powerful downdraft and the roar of engines descended from above, shattering the skylight glass.
*Bang!!*
Glass shards and rainwater poured down, pelting Jiang Qi and turning the refined young master into a drenched, sorry sight. The crowd looked up toward the skylight to see a camouflage-painted helicopter hovering in the sky like an eagle—utterly domineering!
Jiang Qi shuddered, ripping off his glass-covered, rain-soaked tuxedo jacket, and looked up in a state of disarray. Where did this loser get a helicopter?
"Bastard! Where are the guards? Where the hell are they?!" Jiang Qi roared toward the hall. But outside the church, there was only silence, answered only by the cold, howling wind.
Jiang Qi froze, his gaze shifting back to Qin Mu. He was covered in blood and filth, a blade at his waist, the tip still dripping with rain and gore. It seemed no explanation was needed.
"Where is One-Eye? Tell him to grab that woman and answer the phone!" Jiang Qi pivoted to bark at Wu Qiang, his ruthless nature fully exposed.
The butler, Wu Qiang, immediately tried to make the call. But after several attempts, there was no response. It wasn't just One-Eye; none of the servants sent to guard the East Port could be reached.
*Beep—*
The sound of the dead line echoed throughout the church.
Could it be...
Jiang Qi’s composure finally shattered, and panic set in. There were dozens of internal-strength martial artists stationed there, including a peak-level master!! Could they have all been cut down by Qin Mu?!
As Jiang Qi stood in shock, Qin Mu placed his right hand lightly on the hilt of the blade at his waist and began to walk toward the high platform.
Seeing this, Wu Qiang stepped forward to block him.
"You piece of trash, dare to take another step?!"
In his mind, Qin Mu had only broken through the encirclement because of the martial master at his side. But with that master gone, he, an expert of the internal-strength stage, could kill Qin Mu with a single palm strike.
"Was it you who injured Luo Shui’s wrist?"
Qin Mu raised his lowered gaze, looked at Wu Qiang, and asked the question.
