Chapter 118: Spear of Elbaf: Nation-Eater
At the very moment Aokiji’s ice spear was about to strike the ship’s hull, a chicken bone flew toward him, followed closely by a lead bullet from a flintlock pistol.
After dodging, Lucky Roo, the agile, chubby man, swung a whip-like kick at him.
The exhausted Sauron watched the fight between the two and said reluctantly, “Compared to the commanders of the Four Emperors, there really is a difference!”
Baggio nodded. “Yes! We must catch up quickly with Captain Buffon’s pace!”
“What’s the next move?”
As he spoke, a gigantic snail appeared on the distant Reverse Mountain.
On the ship stood a red-haired youth who frowned at the vast frozen sea and said displeasedly, “I really hate this kind of cold feeling.”
Then, wearing sunglasses and clad in a red combat bodysuit paired with a white cloak, he made his move.
His eyes emitted a fierce glow as he unleashed multiple flaming photon punches from his suit, indiscriminately smashing against the enormous ice surface.
“Iji!” Reiju, hovering in the air trying to find a way to break the ice, shouted.
“Sis, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen you so helpless!” Iji called out, leading a squad of cloned soldiers charging toward Reiju.
“Vinsmoke’s brat is coming over here?” Kizaru frowned, activating the Yata no Kagami Photon Flight, soaring into the sky and firing countless dazzling photon blasts to counter Iji’s flaming photon punches.
It was his first encounter with a commander of Germa 66, and he wasn’t sure of their true strength, so to be safe, he used a wide-range attack as a probe.
“Iji, be careful! He’s an admiral!” Reiju’s warning came too late to stop Iji, who, propelled by white mist from his combat boots, accelerated toward Kizaru.
Then came a Spark Double Spin—a fire attack where both hands released flames that merged and exploded.
“Yoho! Kid, don’t you know I’m a Logia-type user? Your flames are completely useless against me!”
Under the blaze, Kizaru transformed into photons and flashed behind Iji, wielding the photon-forged Amanokumo sword, slashing at Iji’s left shoulder.
“Iji, watch out!” Reiju, having arrived to support, instantly released a vast cloud of poisonous mist, attempting to slow Kizaru.
But it had no effect. Thanks to Kizaru’s elemental Logia passive ability, Reiju’s poison ended up harming Iji instead.
Still, Kizaru didn’t press the attack. Seeing Iji wounded, he delivered a light-speed kick, sending him flying toward Reiju.
“Germa Kingdom is still an ally of the World Government; killing this kid outright might be off-limits!” Kizaru muttered, then refocused on the ship.
Honestly, he didn’t expect to destroy the Red-Haired’s ship—that would be beyond the two admirals’ responsibility. Their goal was just to force Buffon out.
Having watched the battle all night, Betty was now infuriated by Kizaru’s ambiguous stance.
Waving a red flag, she rallied the Red-Haired crew, shouting, “To sail the seas carefree, to pursue ultimate freedom! We choose to take up arms and fight to the end against all privileged classes in this world!”
Under Betty’s rallying fruit ability, the entire Red-Haired crew’s fighting spirit surged. Even facing admirals, they showed no fear and charged forward with weapons drawn.
Whether intentional or not, Betty’s rallying fruit ability even affected Kizaru and Aokiji! Both paused, seemingly forgetting their next moves.
These two admirals were anomalies—one embodied ambiguous justice, the other a lazy form of justice. Betty’s power seemed to awaken the parts of their hearts that conflicted with Navy ideals.
“Hey hey hey! Betty, put away that little trick of yours; you know it won’t last long!” Kizaru said nonchalantly, standing atop the mast with arms crossed.
“Is that so? Then perhaps this battle has no meaning to continue,” Aokiji said, retracting his ice spear and standing at the ship’s rail.
Meanwhile, Yuki was frozen solid, unable to move anything but her head. She tried to control Ryokugyo in an effort to break the surrounding ice.
Every fight with Buffon was interrupted by inexplicable events, much to her frustration.
At that moment, the sound of wooden clogs striking ice approached her.
Buffon was now underwater, using Observation Haki to search for Laboon.
Though Laboon’s life was safe despite being frozen, the best choice was to escape immediately once he was free.
The longer they delayed, the more time the Navy had to dispatch reinforcements. It wouldn’t be hard for Buffon to escape with Laboon, but whether Shanks’ “Face Fruit” ability would remain intact was uncertain.
From Shanks’ last words, Buffon sensed a mutual respect. If Shanks had such magnanimity, Buffon couldn’t afford to be cowardly.
Either escape together or fight to the death here. The Navy’s average forces dared not approach, saving Buffon’s group plenty of trouble.
After searching with Observation Haki, Buffon pinpointed Laboon’s location. Underwater, he could only use Fish-Man Karate to break the ice.
A seven-thousand-watt spinning kick struck the ice but barely made a dent. He couldn’t use his Devil Fruit powers underwater.
“Seven thousand watts won’t cut it, then ten thousand watts!” Buffon thought, strengthening his kicks, but still achieved little.
“One watt spinning kick!” He tried again with even more force, but still minimal effect.
At his wit’s end, Buffon recalled the time he shattered ice on Sauron’s body—likely Aokiji’s doing.
He hardened his head with Armament Haki, swam back a bit, then used Fish-Man strength to accelerate and ram the ice.
With a loud crack, the underwater ice split where his head struck, rapidly extending the fracture with the ocean currents.
At the same time, a voice echoed in his mind: “Goalkeeper’s Secret Technique: Header Clearance—Ultimate Move!”
Rubbing his slightly dazed head, Buffon swam toward Laboon, who had now partially emerged.
With Buffon’s pull and Laboon’s struggles, Laboon was finally freed from the ice after a few minutes.
But they were still several meters below the surface. As Buffon considered ramming again, he suddenly remembered a skill he had neglected.
This skill, not a Devil Fruit power, seemed more fitting now.
Using Laboon’s head as a foothold, Buffon retracted his right fist to his waist, charging.
Two forces inside him—the power of the Fish-Man and the Giant—began to merge and surge into his fist, enhanced by Ryokugyo. His fist glowed with a tri-colored radiance, shimmering brilliantly underwater.
Moments later, Buffon pushed off with both feet, delivering a straight uppercut to the thick ice layer meters above.
Countless bubbles surrounded him, accompanied by the tri-colored glow—an unforgettable sight for any observer.
As his fist struck the ice, a quake-like tremor rippled through the surface. The tri-colored punch shot upward.
In Buffon’s mind, a faint voice sounded: “Elbaf’s Spear: Annihilation!”
“Impressive! I’ve only heard of the Might and Domination techniques—this Annihilation might be overkill.”
The once iron-hard ice, upon contact with the Elbaf’s Spear punch, softened like tofu. Instead of shattering, the struck area simply vanished.
If Might and Domination represented ultimate destructive power, then Annihilation could only be described as total obliteration.
Buffon admired the power: “The name truly fits the technique!”
Everyone on the ice surface was stunned by the sudden hole and the tri-colored spear-like fist shooting skyward.
“Sea Kings? Impossible!” Kizaru muttered in confusion.
Reiju, who had just cleared Iji’s venom, asked, “A new weapon developed in the lab?”
Iji shook his head in bewilderment. “I only brought a mountain-moving snail!”
The most astonished was Aokiji. He knew better than anyone how hard his ice was.
He believed only a handful of great pirates could break it. Buffon, a newcomer barely a month into the spotlight, was the first to do so.
“Looks like Sauron really found a good captain. But how far can Sauron walk this path of no return?”
“Wow, Captain Buffon is incredible. I’ve never seen anyone break Kusan’s move before,” Sauron said, rubbing his fist as he ran toward the broken ice.
Yuki’s expression was the darkest. Each of Buffon’s strikes seemed to challenge her understanding of combat power.
Having enjoyed smooth sailing in swordsmanship since youth, she considered herself above peers—but Buffon?
