Chapter 29: Teach Me How to Play Basketball!
Ming Han was still quite excited; after all, there were few young men in this world who didn’t fancy girls, especially pretty ones. That night, the boy who sang “The Most Wasteful Thing” probably left a lasting impression on many girls.
Lin Jingjing teased him, “Ming Han, can we be good friends?”
Ming Han nodded, “Of course! I’m actually a bit shy and don’t have many friends. But I really enjoy making genuine friends.”
A classmate from Class Thirteen who was nearby stared in disbelief upon hearing Ming Han claim to be shy. Could a boy really lie so confidently in front of a pretty girl?
Lin Jingjing smiled radiantly, as lovely as a blossoming flower. “Ming Han, I heard you play basketball. I’d love to learn too! From now on, you’ll be my guitar and basketball teacher!”
Ming Han thought to himself, This is bad, I’ve fallen into her trap. Could she just be looking for a free tutor? I’m supposed to be a caring older brother figure!
“I can’t play basketball right now,” Ming Han pointed at his foot, “It’s injured.”
“Well, when you’re free, teach me how to shoot hoops, okay?”
And so, they made plans. This Saturday, Ming Han would find some time to teach her how to shoot. Although Ming Han himself was only a beginner, teaching a beautiful girl posed no problem at all.
Men become stronger in front of women!
Back in the classroom, Ming Han still wore a blissful expression.
Da Xu lamented beside him, “This is so unfair! I play basketball better than you, I’m more handsome than you, so why is no pretty girl ever interested in me?”
Huang Ying mocked, “Ming Han really is more handsome than you! Even Deng Qingqing from Class Fifteen has noticed him!”
Deng Qingqing was well known as the class beauty, almost universally acknowledged.
Ming Han was pleasantly surprised, “Really? How come I never realized I had so many good qualities?”
Chen Li, face dark, grumbled, “You really enjoy this kind of attention, don’t you?”
Ming Han noticed Chen Li’s odd expression, and had no idea what he’d done to provoke this young lady again. For a moment, he was at a loss for words.
They’d only just made up! If they quarreled again, that old witch Huang Ying would come torment him with psychological games all over again...
“What did she want from you?” Chen Li asked coldly.
“She said she likes basketball and wants me to teach her!”
Huang Ying burst into laughter, “With Ming Han’s basketball skills? There are plenty of guys in our grade who play better than he does. This girl, choosing such a flimsy excuse—should I call her naive or just very straightforward?”
Ming Han was a little dazed, cursing Huang Ying inwardly: What do you mean ‘plenty of people play better than me’? Could you be a little more tactful?
Chen Li asked, “And you agreed?”
Ming Han nodded, thinking, She’s such a pretty girl, why would I refuse? Everyone knows I’m always willing to help others.
Chen Li responded, “Fine then, I want to play basketball too. You have to teach me as well!”
With that, she pulled Huang Ying out of the classroom, leaving a slightly bewildered Ming Han behind.
Da Xu slumped over his desk in despair, “I’m blind! Has the world gone mad? Are the truly handsome guys all being overlooked these days?”
Then he turned on Ming Han with a glare, “You don’t think Chen Li actually likes you, do you?”
Ming Han curled his lip, “Come on! Chen Li just thinks I’m too easygoing, so she always wants to boss me around…”
Though Ming Han considered his relationship with Chen Li quite good, he wasn’t narcissistic enough to think she had feelings for him. Chen Li was like an iceberg—when it came to matters of the heart, she kept everyone at arm’s length.
By his reckoning, the amount of chocolate Chen Li had refused could circle the globe.
