Chapter 28: My Name is Lin Jingjing

The next day, when Ming Han arrived in the classroom, Chen Li was already back in her original seat, which was right in front of his. Ming Han couldn't help but feel delighted; in the days Chen Li had been absent, he found himself speaking much less. But now, his main concern was that he might not be able to play basketball for an entire month. To him, this was pure torture.

“If you really find weekends boring, you can always play games with me!” Da Xu patted Ming Han on the shoulder. “The world of games is just as fascinating. We can conquer the continent of Arad together.”

Ming Han pursed his lips. “I don’t want to end up on the head teacher’s blacklist, having my parents called to school every day.”

After a week had passed, Ming Han could finally walk without sudden bursts of pain, though he still couldn’t run or jump. The best news lately was that the Lakers had clinched the championship, defeating their old rivals, the Celtics. Both teams were famous adversaries in NBA history, and the Lakers’ victory had certainly ignited the hearts of their fans.

Aside from the occasional basketball video, Ming Han seemed to have returned to his former routine—studying, explaining problems to Chen Li, and now also listening to Chen Li explain English questions.

“At night, don’t look at your physics problems. Do these two English papers instead,” Chen Li instructed.

Ming Han stared at the letters and felt his head swell. “Chen Li, can I refuse?”

Chen Li shot him a sidelong glance. “Go tell the head teacher yourself, then…”

Ming Han resigned himself to his fate, slumping over his desk to write, his face full of sorrow.

At that moment, outside the window of Class Thirteen, stood a tall girl—about one meter sixty-eight—with fair skin, wearing shorts that revealed her long, pale legs. She stopped a student. “Excuse me, could you help me call Ming Han?”

That student was Huang Ying. She looked at the girl and recognized her at once—Lin Jingjing, the fourth-ranked beauty from last year’s online forum!

Lin Jingjing had more admirers than anyone else in their grade, most of whom were seniors. She was famous, even though she was from a regular class; her reputation far outshone even the top student in the honors class.

Seeing Lin Jingjing looking for Ming Han, Huang Ying couldn’t help but wonder, “What’s so good about that pig? He manages to attract so many girls, all of them beautiful as flowers.”

Huang Ying entered the classroom. “Ming Han, there’s a gorgeous girl outside looking for you!”

Ming Han was drowning in a sea of books and questions, his head buzzing. Upon hearing the word ‘beauty,’ he immediately lifted his head. “Who?”

“Lin Jingjing.”

Many people had heard that name, so the boys all cast envious glances at Ming Han.

Chen Li pursed her lips. “When did you get to know her?”

Ming Han spread his hands. “I don’t know her!”

He got up, wanting to see for himself. When had he ever met such a famous beauty?

To Chen Li, it looked as if Ming Han was eager to rush out and see a pretty girl. Her lips curled high, her face full of displeasure.

Huang Ying teased, “What’s wrong? Got a rival! Li Li, Lin Jingjing’s face might not be as pretty as yours, but her figure’s much hotter. Look at you, you haven’t even developed yet.”

Chen Li shot Huang Ying a glare. “Get lost!”

When Ming Han walked out of the classroom, he saw Lin Jingjing listening to music on her headphones. Upon seeing him, she smiled gently. “Hello, classmate! Can we get to know each other?”

Ming Han thought to himself, Am I being approached? Luck is truly blooming! “Sure, my name is Ming Han.”

“I’m Lin Jingjing, from Class Ten. You’re really good at singing!”
