Chapter 145: Flirting
Ming Han packed his things, preparing to head to high school. The admission letter had already arrived in the mail—he was assigned to Class 8 of the first year.
Chen Li was placed in Class 2 of the first year, the same class as Yu Hang.
Huang Ying was in the same class as Ming Han.
Because of this, Ming Han and Yu Hang even arranged a meeting. “Bro, we’re forever each other’s little informants,” they joked.
Together, they hashed out several plans: how to prevent boys from casting secret glances at them, how to sabotage any boy who tried to flatter them, and what kind of beatings and compensation for medical bills should follow such encounters.
“Ming Han, it seems the responsibility on our shoulders is quite heavy,” Yu Hang sighed.
Ming Han nodded in agreement. “Men with deep feelings are always wrapped in pain and melancholy.”
...
Although none of the students in Class 8 of the first year had met in person yet, the group chat was already established.
Everyone was filled with anticipation about their new classmates.
The boys thought, “On the first day, I must dress sharp to leave a good impression on all the girls—maybe I can sneak in a romance amidst the intense studies.”
Did the girls hope for handsome boys?
“On the evening of August 31st, all students must gather in the classroom,” the homeroom teacher sent the first notification in the group.
Ming Han arrived at the city’s First High School at noon on the 31st, right at the peak of the crowd flow.
Only then did he understand why this school was called a microcosm of society.
Among the students arriving were ordinary ones like him, lugging their suitcases alone. There were also poor students clutching bags, wearing worn clothes, wandering about like headless flies in this big city for the first time. Naturally, there were those whose families had come by car—some with ten-thousand-yuan-class vehicles, others with million-yuan-class ones.
Ming Han first registered at the academic affairs office, then found his dormitory.
Three students were already there; he was the last to arrive.
One slightly chubby guy wearing glasses was the first to notice him. “Wow, a handsome guy! Hi, I’m Wang Zhimin.”
“Ming Han,” he replied.
Wang Zhimin introduced the others one by one. “This is Li Jiantao.”
“And this is Wu Xinhai.”
Wu Xinhai was a big, stout guy with a buzz cut and small eyes, always wearing a smile that made him seem approachable.
“We’ll be living together for three years, so let’s take good care of each other!”
Li Jiantao nodded. “Hey guys, anyone got a girlfriend? I’ve heard this year’s girls are especially high-quality. I ran into a bunch of beauties on the way—stunning enough to shame the moon, the flowers, the fish, and the birds!”
Heh, quite the cultured guy!
“I saw them too!” Wang Zhimin said excitedly.
Li Jiantao continued, “I have a little idea. Let’s pretend to be seniors and help those lost little beauties carry their luggage. They’ll be so moved, they’ll fall for us. It’s the principle of ‘the pavilion closest to the water gets the moon first.’ Ha ha...”
Everyone agreed.
Ming Han timidly raised his hand. “Can I refuse?”
“No way!”
So, the four of them set their plan in motion. Li Jiantao, clearly having done some reconnaissance, explained the rough layout of the dorm and academic buildings to the others. “Don’t mess it up; first impressions on the ladies are crucial.”
Wang Zhimin grabbed Ming Han’s arm. “Look at you, shy as a kitten—must be your first time tricking girls like this. Looks like I need to give you some pointers...”
At that moment, there were indeed many girls on the road, all slowly carrying their luggage.
Wang Zhimin immediately picked a target—a cute, petite girl.
“Hey, junior, I’m a second-year senior. Need any help?” he said.
Free labor! The girl was naturally happy to accept, and Wang Zhimin gleefully escorted her to the dorm.
Ming Han waited for about ten minutes. Wang Zhimin returned, looking dejected. “Man, these girls are too crafty nowadays.”
“What happened?”
“I helped her carry her stuff up to the sixth floor, just as I was about to ask for her QQ number, her boyfriend showed up—and they both thanked me together! Where was he all this time? Such a traitor!” Wang Zhimin lamented, “City life’s too complicated—I’m heading back to the countryside.”
Ming Han laughed heartily.
Wang Zhimin scowled. “You’re just watching the show? Go find me a target too—I want to see you make a fool of yourself.”
Ming Han waved him off. “I think I’ll pass.”
Wang Zhimin pointed ahead. “There she is!”
Following his finger, Ming Han saw a girl with a ponytail, bearing a slight resemblance to Gong Li.
“Ming Han, see? I’m looking out for you! She’s definitely a beauty.”
“Then you go ahead.”
Wang Zhimin pouted and pushed Ming Han toward her.
Under Wang Zhimin’s watchful eyes, Ming Han reluctantly approached the girl and imitated the earlier greeting: “Uh, hello, I’m a second-year senior. Need any help?”
The girl glanced at him and shook her head. “No, thanks.”
Now it was Ming Han’s turn to feel awkward; he stood frozen, unsure what to say next.
“Maybe I could help you carry your luggage?” he asked, almost pleading.
The girl chuckled softly. “Seniors at this school are quite warm.”
She handed him her suitcase. “What’s your name, senior?”
“Ming Han.”
“I’m Zheng Xue, Class 8, first year. Please take good care of me.”
Ming Han suddenly froze. What did she say? Class 8? Oh no!
Zheng Xue’s dorm was on the fifth floor. Ming Han had just climbed the stairs when he spotted a familiar figure—Huang Ying.
She was chatting with another girl in the hallway.
Ming Han thought, Please don’t let you two be roommates!
But Zheng Xue walked straight toward Huang Ying. “Is this room 514?”
Huang Ying nodded. “Are you also in 514? We’ll be roommates then.”
“Hey, senior, we’re here!”
Only then did Huang Ying notice Ming Han. Her expression was quite something as she looked at him. “Senior?”
Ming Han greeted her. “What a coincidence!”
Zheng Xue looked surprised. “What’s this? Did you also help my roommate carry her luggage?”
Huang Ying circled Ming Han teasingly. “Not bad! Our Duan Cao is actually using this method to flirt with girls now.”
“Duan Cao?”
Huang Ying smiled. “This senior you speak of is the famous heartthrob of Jinhua Middle School. Many girls chased after him. I thought he was rather aloof, but turns out he knows how to play.”
Ming Han explained, “Huang Ying, it’s not what you think.”
At that moment, Chen Li called Huang Ying.
“Ying Ying, where are you?”
Huang Ying deliberately spoke loudly. “You’re in this dorm building too? Come to the fifth floor! I caught our resident flirt red-handed.”
Was Chen Li coming?
Ming Han wasn’t worried. Chen Li was gentle, virtuous, dignified, and trusted his character completely. She wouldn’t be easily swayed by Huang Ying’s words.
Soon, Chen Li arrived. After hearing Huang Ying’s account, she smiled at Ming Han. “Heh, coming to high school ready to let loose, huh?”
