Chapter Fifty-Nine: Fortunately, You Met Me Early Enough
After Miss Lilith entered the room, she immediately settled herself on the sofa, crossed her high-heeled shoes, and gazed boredly at the newly done nails on her fingers. Then, the young delinquent girl shot Louis a glance, lifted her chin, and pulled a thick stack of IOUs from her ample bosom.
These IOUs bore the office’s official seal—genuine. They had Director Triff's handwritten signature—also genuine. There were even some with Louis’s own signature—the seal looked as if it had been carved from a turnip, and the handwriting was particularly delicate. Apparently, Miss Lilith’s script was quite elegant, and her arrogance was blatant—utterly brazen.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Louis picked up the IOUs, curiosity written all over his face as he looked at Lilith.
A woman of her status naturally wouldn’t deign to converse with someone like Louis—were it not for her little follower, Helen, who had produced over two hundred gold Gallons and begged her to deal with him, she wouldn’t have bothered coming at all.
Of course, collecting money was important—Helen had promised to help dig up Director Triff’s account books. When the time came to tamper with them, Triff would be left speechless. So dealing with Louis was just a convenient side job.
The young delinquent girl gave a cold smile, pulled a crystal ball from her waist pouch, and projected it. Inside were all sorts of unsavory scenes from the office, as well as a forged video—the silhouette resembled Louis, but anyone sharp-eyed could see through it at a glance, so it was essentially useless.
Yet it was enough to intimidate a bookworm, and in any case, after today, the real footage would arrive.
[Clearly, Lady Lilith has prepared a grand gift just for you—even Helen never imagined Lilith would play so rough. No wonder she’s the boss of the Black Skull Society: so exhilarating, so thrilling, so entertaining.]
[Two thousand gold Gallons in debt—for a temp worker, that’s astronomical!]
[It seems “Louis” lost quite a bit gambling at the Red Fox Den, even embezzled office funds. Obviously, a temp couldn’t repay such a sum, so Lady Lilith is showing mercy, leaving him one “way out.”]
[You decide…]
Louis stared, stunned at the options below.
[A. “Miss Lilith, I never signed these. Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you to the Ministry of Magic? I am a disciple of Her Highness Oxicriss—you’ve extorted the wrong person.”
Completion reward: Director Triff’s helpless complaint*1, Oxicriss’s plea to Sakura Bell*1, Sakura Bell the female thug’s intervention*1, Helen and Lilith’s group punishment*10, random attribute +1]
‘Oh, Oxicriss, how can you not handle even a student? You have to beg Sakura Bell—what a headache.’
[B. “Don’t do this, please don’t make me wear that, I beg you, boohoo…”
Face the camera bravely, dance boldly, show off your eight-pack abs and titan-like strength. Ultimately, seize the initiative.
Completion reward: Little foxes’ delight*6, Helen’s tears and fury*1, Helen’s delight*1, long-term contract as movie lead*1, Sakura Bell’s interest and attention*1, experience +50]
[C. “Hahaha, fools!” Tear up the IOUs in public.
Completion reward: The Black Skull Society’s wrath and entanglement*N, curses in succession*1, movie lead and queen*6, random attribute +1]
Seeing these choices, Louis couldn’t help but pat the fly swatter in his hand, nodding with a cheerful smile.
The storybook possessed prophetic power, so every entry reflected what the little foxes might do today.
Louis thought that simply settling matters with them would be too dull. Today, he wanted to try something new.
Everyone had to enjoy themselves—that was the point. Otherwise, what was the use of coming?
“Well, Sir Louis. Have you made up your mind?” Lilith flicked her hair, gazing half-smiling at the handsome young wizard behind the desk, who was too frightened to speak. “Or perhaps you didn’t understand what you saw in the crystal ball and need to~ watch it again?”
Lilith gave her underlings a glance, and the two little foxes sitting on the desk began to move. They started intimidating Louis, flashing mischievous grins. One reached out to lift Louis’s chin, another tried to tug at his clothes, while someone else deliberately glanced toward the sofa by the fireplace in provocation.
Over on the sofa, Helen, hidden by an invisibility spell, gaped with mouth agape and teary eyes, regretting bringing these terrifying people.
[What are you doing? How could you act like this! This isn’t what we agreed on!]
[Boohoo, I invited too many people—Louis can’t handle them…]
[Boohoo, if you don’t behave… I’ll never speak to you again…]
Louis used the fly swatter to fend off the soft, fragrant hands reaching toward him, straightened the crystal ball on the desk, and then, with righteous indignation, rebuked them: “Have you no shame! This is the Sacred Tree Academy—it’s holy ground! Do you know what you’re doing? There are so many people nearby; if someone shouts in the room…”
The girls stopped chewing their gum, exchanged glances, and then burst into wild laughter.
“Hahaha~ Look at that, he still wants to call for help?”
“This kind of thing is only thrilling when done in holy ground, right? Isn’t that so?” The little foxes looked at each other, becoming utterly unrestrained, their grins wicked.
“Go ahead, little wizard—no matter how loud you scream today, no one will hear you.”
“Who doesn’t know Lady Lilith is handling business here today? Everyone on the sixth floor left long ago.”
“Oh~~” Louis nodded in sudden realization, lifting his brow.
“Little puppy, hurry over and put on the maid outfit. If you behave, big sister will make sure you suffer less.”
One little fox parroted the phrases she’d heard from the nightingales, apparently knowing what “little puppy” meant. After speaking, she felt parched, her cheeks flushed, but she was intensely excited.
The handsome young wizard’s “timidity” stirred the malice in the hearts of the fox girls, and all sorts of colorful language tumbled from their mouths.
Hearing this, Louis blinked in surprise.
These fox girls knew quite a lot! Not bad, not bad.
Even more amusing, they were clearly all novices—just a few sentences, and their faces turned red! Yet each insisted on pretending to be a bold little witch.
As if this made them truly unrestrained, arrogant, and sinister.
It was simply too entertaining.
It seemed none of them really knew how to play these roles.
Besides, they clearly weren’t suited for them.
At this point, one fox girl even turned on the office’s old record player, playing a dated tune, then began to shake her head and sway with wild abandon to its “dynamic and stylish” rhythm.
That little tail, those ears, swayed adorably as she moved. Louis nearly burst out laughing right then.
Even cuter, the fox girls seemed to think they were incredibly cool.
Helen also felt the bosses were terrifying.
Boss Lilith herself suddenly joined in, grinning wickedly and acting up. Look, she was wagging her tail again, grinning fiercely, and couldn’t help but kick up her high heels.
[See that? A real dance of demons. Take it all in, little wizard—shouldn’t you just kneel obediently at the feet of this great demon king and beg for mercy?]
Amidst this atmosphere, she was finally having fun.
Louis, too, found it increasingly interesting.
‘Looks like these fox girls have no idea how treacherous the world can be. When they go out, won’t they be easy prey? They could be sold and never realize what happened.’
‘Good thing they ran into me early on.’
