Chapter 164: Aha! As Expected, I Am the Savior!
Louis rubbed his face.
"To deal with a guy of this caliber, one still needs to make some preparations."
Scrappers are the most difficult type to deal with; they are practically immortal. However, as an veteran witch doctor, Louis still knew a few folk remedies specifically for dealing with scrappers.
"It all seems rather complicated... Ah, there is one very straightforward and simple method that can save the world (the netherworld where Silent Harbor is located)—destroying the entire world before the Great Old One comes to scrap it."
When a Great Old One enters the netherworld where Silent Harbor is located, attempts to merge with it, and prepares to feast, it is at its most vulnerable. If the entire netherworld is suddenly destroyed at this moment, then it will perish along with this netherworld.
It might not be the literal destruction of the world, but an apocalypse-level explosion of sufficient magnitude would certainly give it a headache.
Although this kind of entity cannot truly die in the literal sense, it would at least fall into a deep slumber for several thousand years—this scrapping trip would be considered a complete and utter loss.
At this thought, Louis felt invigorated.
There really were arch-fiends and supervillains in this world after all.
This time, he could surely be considered to have done a good deed, right?
As expected, I am the savior!
"Harold, arrange for some mages to go to the observatory these next few days and help me collect astronomical data. Look into things like the nearest meteorite belts or asteroids to this planet within this star system," Louis said. "Then bring the data to me."
Harold had no idea what his boss was up to; he was staring blankly at the dot matrix chart his boss was toying with in his hands. Hearing the boss's instructions, he snapped out of his daze and went to arrange the task.
Quite a few members of the Mages' Association seemed to be astronomy enthusiasts, and upon hearing the news, they busied themselves with it.
Louis touched his chin and fell into thought.
For Harold, while he did not understand astronomy much, "wild mages" like Bach and the others were extremely professional senior scholars. Although astronomy in this era was not yet sufficiently developed, such astronomical data was better than nothing. Combined with the magic mirror and astrological divination, the magic mirror should still be able to find the "walnut" he wanted.
"I'll pick a smaller walnut this time, so I don't accidentally destroy the entire world!"
"Right, I'll have Michelin prepare some large-scale crystal arrays later, otherwise my mana probably won't be able to summon a meteorite of this magnitude during the 'Summoning Spell'."
Louis intended to bring a "walnut" over this time. When the Great Old One came to scrap, he would show it that walnut flying into the atmosphere at a speed of over Mach 5 and heading straight toward Silent Harbor, and it would understand.
If it refused to leave, he would smash it right on its forehead.
Before the walnut landed, he would still be able to evacuate a portion of the people.
If it understood, he would let the walnut land in the distant ocean.
"Wait, won't Silent Harbor be flooded by the tsunami?"
Looking at the map on the desk, Louis fell into deep contemplation.
"Ahem, probably not. Taking some preventative measures should be fine."
Having given out various instructions, his work at the Mages' Association for the day was pretty much done.
This completely hands-off boss was truly irresponsible, not even planning to hold a meeting.
When Louis came downstairs, he could not help but feel a little surprised.
The Mages' Association at this moment was vastly different from when he had first arrived.
Although there were still quite a few people playing with various photography equipment, there was no longer anyone messing around blindly.
He saw Mr. Trif and Mr. Edward standing in the lobby, holding several documents and directing their subordinates to tidy up the hall.
Many mages were holding magic wands, directing various objects to clean the lobby. The terribly outdated large emblem on the association's wall had also been repaired and rehung.
Everything looked orderly. Many people had changed their clothes; bizarre outfits were gone, and they had become remarkably proper. Even the drunkard had cleaned up and was sitting on a sofa—though he was still snoring.
As for Mr. Edward, he was no longer wearing that gothic dress.
He was now dressed in the same "frock" court aristocratic attire as Bach and many other mages. It was a frock coat with exquisite lace, featuring long swallowtails in the back, accompanied by a tricorn hat or top hat, knee-length breeches, and knee-high boots or wool stockings. Paired with a walking stick, he looked elegant and proper. Those with thinning hair also wore a white wig.
This attire was slightly different from the style popular among the Sorondor nobility; the nobles' garments shared the same style, but with very long hems and an abundance of overall decorations, making them look more feminine and cumbersome.
The clothes currently popular among the mages, however, were much simpler and looked quite sharp and efficient.
Although Mr. Edward still looked somewhat effeminate wearing it, at least it was no longer an assault on the eyes. He was currently chatting with a pipe-smoking mage, and when Louis looked closely, he realized that the mage seemed to be the very same one he had seen at the railway station.
"This is quite a surprise," Sakura Ling said, coming to Louis's side and gently waving her small fan. "You have no idea what kind of clothes the investigators from the retirement home used to wear when attending Ministry of Magic meetings, or what kind of absurd stunts they used to pull."
Louis could not help but nod, wearing a solemn expression.
Indeed, even Edward had stopped wearing women's clothing; it seemed everyone was finally taking things seriously. It appeared that compared to the Ministry of Magic, the Mages' Association was truly the important place in everyone's hearts!
Louis cleared his throat, walked forward, and prepared to say a few words.
"Alright, alright," Director Trif clapped his hands. "Attention everyone, this scene takes place in the Mages' Association. The movie *Silent Harbor*... cameras ready."
After the director finished speaking, the crew members and extras in the hall all took their positions. Helen, dressed in Victorian male aristocratic attire, walked in from the entrance while chatting and laughing with Bach and the others, her serious little face full of the expression of 'I am Grand President Helen'.
Sakura Ling's mouth hung open, wondering if she was marveling at the crew's efficiency.
Louis, who had just stepped forward intending to give a speech, opened his mouth and failed to utter a single word for a long time. He turned around and left with Harold.
"Ahem, sir," Harold said awkwardly. "Looking on the bright side, this movie is still very meaningful for the positive portrayal of mages—mages have vanished for many years, and in the public consciousness, they have almost zero presence."
"Um... fine, whatever..."
Presence... that word felt a bit sensitive to Louis right now.
He still didn't have much of a lead regarding the Silent Harbor incident. Without properly investigating it, there was no way to understand this mysterious event.
Louis asked Harold about the documents and credentials related to his status as "Deputy Director" and "Four of Hearts," and then asked Sakura Ling to help retrieve them.
Afterward, chatting with Harold along the way, Louis went over to the lounge area to wait.
Having not come by for a while, the lounge had been turned into a screening room by the film crew, and some people were busy doing editing work there.
Trif Studios could be said to have changed the entire film industry over the past dozen years, introducing not only color and sound films, but special effects as well. Although it was still quite retro, belonging to the caliber of *Waterloo Bridge*, it was already very close to the movies in Louis's memory.
Playing on the screen right now was a movie starring Miss White Fox, titled *Aaliyah II*—the very film that had swept 11 "Aaliyah Awards" this year.
The plot was a story from the Moon Court three thousand years ago, chronicling how "Aaliyah II" rose from a saintess to the throne of the High Priestess, changing the history of the entire Moon Court.
According to sacred scriptures, Aaliyah was the name the Moon Goddess frequently used when she incarnated as a mortal in the human world, meaning the radiant moon.
