Chapter 136: This Isn't Something from the World of the Living Either!
After Louis was baptized before the Moon Goddess statue in the Cathedral, Bishop Alwin ordered the monks to search the library for information on the Kingdom of Clouds. Subsequently, a group of prelates and bishops escorted Louis to Archbishop Alwin’s office, where they chatted over tea.
Louis had originally expected to receive a suit of armor or something similar after his baptism. Instead, he was given several sets of knightly attire adorned with emblems, a cloak, a ring signifying the rank of a Knight of Rights, a small booklet resembling a passport, and a copy of the Dawn Scripture.
Perhaps noticing Louis’s interest in the large red shield hanging on the office wall, Bishop Alwin gifted him the emblem-bearing shield along with a handsome-looking antique longsword. Count Crowley looked on with envy; Bishop Alwin had always cherished these two antiques, and he was just giving them away? He himself had received nothing of the sort when he was initiated.
As an "Honorary Templar Knight," receiving so many items was quite impressive—Mr. Crowley had only walked away with a small booklet and the Dawn Scripture back in his day. Naturally, even for active Templar Knights, armor was usually something one had to provide for oneself.
After some tea and conversation, Louis’s passport was delivered. When he took the booklet, the wax seal stamped upon it was still steaming. The contents inscribed inside were quite formidable:
[Kingdom of Clouds: Lu Yi]
[Noble Title 'Prince': King of Sea-Suppressing of Kowloon Province]
[Fiefdom: Kingdom of Clouds, under the rule of the Northern Sea King, Tahiti, Kowloon Province]
[Solondo United Kingdom Name: Louis]
[Noble Title: None]
[Title: Honorary Knight of Rights of the Moon Court (Paladin)]
The noble title section had originally read "Sea King"—that was what the little dragon girl had written. However, taking advantage of a moment when Li Ming and the clerics were distracted, Louis had quietly altered it and removed a stray character from the photograph section. Thus, it became "Kowloon Sea-Suppressing King."
At the time, the pandaren Li Ming looked at the characters with some confusion and read aloud, "Kowloon Town, Sea King?" Louis’s face darkened immediately. *You’re the one in Kowloon Town! You’re the Sea King! Your whole family is the Sea King!*
The pandaren Li Ming suddenly realized, "Ah, it’s the Kowloon Sea-Suppressing King." However, he remarked that the phrasing felt odd, as if "Kowloon Sea-Suppressing King" wasn't a standard construction; usually, a location preceded the title. Louis insisted vehemently that the little dragon girl must have made a mistake. After some discussion, they translated it as "King of Sea-Suppressing of Kowloon Province."
And so, this "strange title" evolved from "Sea King of Kowloon Town" into a "Prince" of the Kingdom of Clouds. Seeing his new passport, Louis wore a satisfied smile.
Just then, several elderly monks arrived carrying books so old they were slightly moldy. It seemed the St. Anthony Cathedral’s library was remarkably comprehensive and indeed contained records of the Kingdom of Clouds. Although these materials had been brought back by a missionary who had traveled to the Kingdom of Clouds over a century ago, the information recorded appeared quite detailed.
Once the books were placed on the table, everyone—some adjusting their spectacles, others wiping their eyes—leaned in with curiosity. As the old monks leafed through the pages, the group was astonished to find information regarding the Northern Sea King of the Kingdom of Clouds, and the data regarding his territory was staggering.
"Is the information in this book definitely correct?" Bishop Alwin adjusted his monocle, stunned, and couldn't help but ask again.
"Absolutely correct, I have cross-referenced many sources," the old monk replied. "The Northern Sea King’s territory spans seventy million square kilometers."
"Se-se-se-seventy million square kilometers?!" Crowley’s voice cracked.
Bishop Alwin, Bishop John, Ying Ling, and Crowley all stared at Louis in stunned silence. This was a "real" prince!
Louis was also taken aback. That was almost the size of the Indian Ocean, wasn't it?
"Where exactly is the location... cough, cough." Louis nearly gave himself away.
"Where is it located?" Crowley asked, somewhat excitedly.
The old monk solemnly opened a large map and traced a rough position with his finger—it was a mysterious, unexplored stretch of ocean. Crowley looked closely and realized that the area was quite near a colony he had once governed, located in the vast ocean just off the coast of the Three Provinces Prefecture.
Louis also squinted at the map and realized that, geographically, the location of this Northern Sea Kingdom seemed somewhat similar to the Indian Ocean, surrounded by many continents and countless islands.
Crowley’s voice trembled: "I have led my fleet to explore that sea area many times and encountered many strange little islands. But it seems that in the deeper reaches of that ocean, there lies a supercontinent! A supercontinent bordering the Kingdom of Clouds and ruled by the Northern Sea Prince!"
The group began to discuss the revelation with great excitement. Louis, wearing a blank expression, whispered to the monk: "In existing records, besides the ocean, is there any land in that region?"
"Well... there is land. In current records, that sea area borders the Kingdom of Clouds; there are many islands. Counting all the large islands, small islands, and reefs... perhaps about two hundred thousand square kilometers?" the old monk said hesitantly.
Louis nodded blankly.
At this point, the group began discussing Louis’s fiefdom—Tahiti, Kowloon Province—which sounded quite significant.
"What does 'Tahiti, Kowloon Province' translate to?" Bishop John asked, perplexed. "Doesn't this count as a massive colony?"
"I'm not sure," the old monk said, frowning. "The King of Sea-Suppressing of Kowloon Province... perhaps it is a province?"
A province, indeed. Given that the Kingdom of Clouds was such a mysterious and vast place, if a mere vassal state covered seventy million square kilometers, then a single province within that state must be terrifyingly large!
It was rumored that princes of the Kingdom of Clouds could take multiple wives, hence the large number of princes. But with such a vast territory, the Northern Sea King’s land wouldn't be small no matter how it was divided. If this "Northern Sea King" had granted a fiefdom to his nephew, he must have favored this nephew even more than his own younger sons.
Granting a province of several hundred thousand square kilometers wouldn't be unreasonable, right? And arranging for dozens of wives to serve as child brides for the nephew, leading to a marriage between relatives, wouldn't be out of the question either, would it?
However, no matter how hard they searched, they could not find this "Kowloon Province."
"Louis, where is your fiefdom?" Crowley asked with burning eyes. "When translated, what is the name of the place?"
"Cough, I’ve been studying abroad since I was old enough to remember, so I don't recall many details. Cough, really," Louis lied.
"Ah, my lords, there seems to be a place called 'Tahiti' here, near the coast; it’s a harbor," an old monk said, having searched for a long time with a magnifying glass. "The area... 2.36 square kilometers? No, no, it must be a translation error. This cannot be the Tahiti mentioned here."
The group nodded repeatedly. Yes, it must be a mistake. How could it be a tiny place of only 2.36 square kilometers? A fishing village? What kind of prince is that? A village chief? It must be a mistake.
Louis nodded blankly, finally understanding. It probably wasn't any of the villages these people were finding, and certainly not about being a village chief—it was likely referring to the temples in Tahiti. And that wasn't exactly a place for the living, either!
