Chapter 130: Sister, you've come here just to steal my man, haven't you?!
"I won't be going tomorrow," Louis said, having made up his mind. "I'm still an undocumented person, so I'd rather not show my face. I need to get my registration sorted out with the Count tomorrow."
Osicris felt a flicker of disappointment. Without Louis, she felt a slight lack of security, though she wore an expression that suggested, "Whether you're there or not makes no difference to me."
The ladies soon resumed their conversation.
Louis chatted with the mages for a while. Recently, the mages had been researching magic scrolls. The books Louis had provided contained relevant knowledge, and some had already managed to produce a few. After reviewing their results, Louis offered some suggestions and then inquired about their plans for the following day.
Since the Duke intended to provide some funding to the Mages' Association, several mages planned to go hunting tomorrow and incidentally discuss the funding. The rest intended to stay at the hotel to conduct research, waiting to join Louis at the festival later.
Louis nodded, left them with some homework, checked the time, and returned to his room to bathe and sleep.
Before long, Lilith yawned and told her sister she was heading to bed—only to sneak away the moment she stepped out of the room.
Yingling pretended not to see. She chatted with Osicris with a smile for a while, then found an excuse to head to Lilith’s room, gritting her teeth. As expected, it was empty, with a pile of messy clothes and small stockings of various colors scattered across the bed, along with several pairs of rabbit and cat ears.
Yingling nearly fainted from rage. She immediately apparated to Louis's suite. After searching around, she realized Louis seemed to be in the shower.
"Who is it? Why didn't you knock?" Louis asked, eyes closed as he lathered up with soap.
From the living room, Lilith's voice rang out: "Guess who~"
Then, a melody began to play.
*You little brat! Is this how you sneak into someone's room and throw yourself at them!*
Fuming, Yingling walked into the living room and found Lilith, dressed in a qipao, wiggling her hips while shaking her head as she fiddled with the record player. The headpiece covering her fox and rabbit ears swayed back and forth. She looked incredibly happy.
"Oh, you're done washing up so fast? I have to go hunting tomorrow, but I haven't learned how to ride a horse yet. Could you teach me today?" Lilith said, turning around.
She found her sister standing there with hands on her hips, eyes blazing with fury. Lilith was so startled the fur on her tail stood on end.
Yingling grabbed Lilith’s ears and rained down a series of strikes with her small fan. After a few hits, Lilith was in tears, but one glare from her sister forced her to swallow them back.
After disciplining her sister, Yingling sat on the sofa, fuming, crossing her legs and trying to calm her racing heart for a long while.
Seeing her sister still sobbing on the sofa, Yingling’s anger flared anew. "You still have the nerve to cry! Shameless! You've brought disgrace upon the family!"
"If you were an ordinary girl, maybe it wouldn't matter, but you're a noble! How are you supposed to marry now? As someone's concubine?!"
At that thought, Yingling grew even more incensed. Louis seemed to be a prince from the Kingdom of Clouds, which didn't strictly observe monogamy. The Fox clan also originated from the Kingdom of Clouds and had historically practiced polygamy—Yingling’s own uncle had a concubine.
But Lilith was a noble! The eldest daughter! How could she be a concubine?!
"How far has your relationship progressed?"
Seeing her sister pretending to cry without answering, Yingling slapped her sister’s backside with the fan.
"Ugh... didn't you say... ugh... didn't you also cozy up to that Faceless One?"
Upon hearing her sister mention her master, Yingling’s hair stood on end, and she unleashed another flurry of slaps. Before she had a physical relationship with Louis, Yingling had used her connection to throw her weight around, but now that it was real, she was terrified of others finding out.
"Who cozied up to anyone! Who?!" ("Don't hit me, it hurts...") "I told you, the Faceless One is the 'Thousand-Faced Lantern Reaper, Boor.' How could I have a relationship with an undead ghost like that?" ("Stop pulling my ears, ahh!") "That was just a lie we spread to lure Harold!"
"I have never relied on anyone! I reached where I am today through my own ability and means! As for the spokesperson, that was just that old ghost Bolster!"
Yingling scolded her while continuing to strike.
But Lilith was thick-skinned. Even while being beaten, she retorted: "It hurts—this is how you taught me! You said if I encountered a powerful backer, I should cling to them. I just want to cling to Louis; his legs are thick, and I'll be his concubine! Wuu, it hurts, stop hitting me..."
Seeing her sister use her own words to talk back, Yingling was so furious she felt as if she might ascend to the heavens. She grabbed Lilith's ears and struck her again with the fan until she lay on the sofa, her ears drooping in defeat.
After the ordeal, Yingling panted, her chest heaving. Feeling exhausted, she sat on the sofa, crossed her legs, and lit her pipe. She felt agitated all day; seeing the record player still spinning made her even angrier.
"What garbage music!" She stood up and switched off the record player, but then froze as she looked at the record.
After picking it up and examining it, Yingling shook her head—the music sounded similar, but it wasn't the same.
"Where did you find this piece of junk?" Yingling glared at her sister.
Lilith wiped her eyes and pointed to the luggage beside the sofa.
Yingling looked down and realized it was Louis’s suitcase. Though Louis had been at the hotel for two days, this was the first time he had returned to his room to pack. When Lilith arrived earlier, she had found the suitcase open and rummaged through it, leaving it in a mess.
Now, Yingling couldn't resist taking a look herself.
A familiar, clean scent drifted into her nose. Yingling felt an involuntary panic, picked up a shirt, and sniffed it carefully with her delicate nose.
Lilith peeked up—she wasn't like Helen, who would be cowed by a stern word from her sister. She was exceptionally thick-skinned; even when Louis had spanked her until she was swollen in the office, she hadn't shed many tears. Her "crying" was all an act.
Seeing her sister sniffing Louis's shirt, Lilith’s hair stood on end, and she leaped off the sofa. "Sister, what are you doing? Why do you keep sniffing Louis's clothes!" She reached out, trying to snatch the shirt back.
"Scram!" Yingling glared, and Lilith shrank back onto the sofa, obediently silent—in this world, besides Louis, she only feared her sister.
Yingling sniffed the shirt again, her expression growing increasingly strange, her body trembling involuntarily.
She rummaged further through the luggage, and after tossing aside a pile of miscellaneous items, a strange scroll appeared before her.
After picking it up, she realized the scene in the scroll seemed to be a secret realm, where Mr. Ross, who had gone home on vacation for the past two days, was feeding chickens—the chickens were now larger than dogs, with the biggest rooster nearly the size of an ostrich.
Around them, several people were chatting, drinking, and playing cards—suddenly, Stewart looked up.
A bolt of lightning seemed to strike Yingling’s mind. She knelt on the sofa, stunned.
A pink record fell out of the suitcase onto the floor.
Yingling picked it up blankly, stared at it, and then scrambled toward the record player with trembling limbs to play it.
"Sister, this music is even worse than the last one." Lilith was speechless. Wasn't this the music she used to play at the Red Fox Den? Her sister had called it vulgar and scolded her for it.
"Is it really that bad?"
Footsteps approached from afar. Lilith looked up and saw it was Louis.
Lilith truly began to cry now, seeking comfort—*It’s over. My sister is here to break us up. I can't be his concubine anymore. Our relationship ends today.*
But then, she saw Louis walk over and gently stroke her sister’s ears with a smile.
Lilith was stunned. "Louis, are you looking for death? My sister will kill you!"
"It sounds wonderful," Yingling said, wagging her tail and looking up with a pout, her voice sweet and coquettish. "Louis has the best taste."
Lilith's jaw dropped—*Sister, what are you doing?! Who is the shameless one here?!*
*Ha! You came over in the middle of the night, gave me a beating, and lectured me with such painstaking effort...*
*Only to steal my man?!*
