Chapter Thirty-Nine: Taking Action
Chapter Thirty-Nine: Taking Action
One of the men who was called immediately stepped forward.
“Heh, Tiger, you’re right. This woman is practically handing herself over, so she can’t blame us.”
As he spoke, he reached out to grab Xu Qingru.
The group of men watched her with malicious grins.
Xu Qingru’s face turned pale with fright as she heard their words. Regret began to fill her heart. This was not like before; now, there was no one to help her.
Something caught her foot from behind, and she stumbled, almost falling backward.
She glanced over and saw a man withdrawing his leg with a sinister smile, ready to reach for her waist.
Disgust churned in Xu Qingru’s stomach, but fear took hold of her heart.
“Get lost!”
A thunderous voice rang out, and a man with a buzz cut appeared behind her.
He supported Xu Qingru’s body with one hand, his elbow already pressed against the shoulder of the man who had stretched out his leg.
With a loud crack, the man who had tried to grab her collapsed to the ground, howling in agony, his face contorted in pain as he desperately crawled backward.
“You’re looking for trouble, huh?”
Seeing their companion fall, two others beside Tiger rushed forward.
This newcomer looked strong, but whether he could fight remained to be seen.
Tiger’s henchmen were known for their fighting skills.
The earlier takedown was likely due to an unexpected move.
Tiger watched his men charge ahead and casually lit a cigarette.
He wanted to see just how capable this newcomer really was.
They had noticed Shen An before but hadn’t paid him any mind. The conversation between Shen An and the shop owner had revealed they were merely acquaintances, nothing to worry about.
Tiger had been around for years and had seen all kinds of people.
He took a drag on his cigarette, the smoke still swirling in his mouth, when two more anguished cries rang out.
Tiger’s eyes widened as he saw his two men sent flying past him.
They had rushed in quickly, but now they flew out even faster. This...
Tiger took a deep breath.
“Kid, you’ve got guts. Do you know who I am?”
He believed that once the other party knew his name, they wouldn’t dare oppose him.
But before he finished speaking, a fist the size of a sandbag appeared in front of him.
With a resounding thud—
His vision went black.
Tiger had no idea who had sent this man or what gave him such audacity. He was, after all, a friend of Young Master Chen.
“I’m Chen’s friend, you’re finished, I tell you, you’re finished.”
Tiger hadn’t expected the man before him not only to be strong, but also utterly ruthless.
He didn’t care about Tiger at all.
An overwhelming sense of humiliation flooded Tiger.
“Seven yuan a bowl, five people, thirty-five yuan. Add some damages, mental distress—five hundred yuan. Pay up and leave.”
Shen An’s voice sounded like a death knell in the ears of the group.
They stood in a line, not daring to meet Shen An’s gaze.
Casually, Shen An slapped Tiger’s shoulder.
“Did you hear me?”
He controlled his strength, but it was still more than Tiger could handle.
“Fine, I’ll pay!”
Tiger’s voice was nearly a snarl.
He knew that if he didn’t pay, there was no chance he’d be allowed to leave.
He decided to swallow his pride for now, settle things with Shen An, and deal with him later when he saw Young Master Chen.
With Chen’s status, he was certain he could make Shen An’s life in Silver City miserable—worse than death.
After paying, the group hurried away.
Shen An watched their retreat with a slight smile, unconcerned.
Earlier, when Chu Yuxi had seen him off, he could sense someone tailing him, but now, for reasons unknown, that presence had vanished.
Regardless, Shen An knew that the Chen family would not let him go easily. Since that was the case, he’d take the initiative and see if the Chen family could remain calm.
“Shen An, you should leave. They’ll definitely come back. You beat them, and they won’t let this go.”
Xu Qingru spoke up, seeing Shen An let them leave.
This time, she truly felt grateful for Shen An’s presence; otherwise, she had no idea what would have happened.
The words Tiger had spoken still lingered in her mind, filling her with fear.
“It’s all right. But you—I suggest you leave Silver City, go somewhere else.”
“Sigh, what a mess.”
Xu Qingru’s face was weary.
She saw clearly now; this place was no longer suitable for business.
It was not a place for a woman like her to run a business.
Shen An helped her pack some things and advised her not to return home, to leave early in the morning.
For now, they wouldn’t be looking for trouble with her; they were after Shen An.
After seeing Xu Qingru off, Shen An returned to his own lodging.
Fortunately, the place hadn’t been damaged in the recent upheaval—a stroke of luck.
…
“Damn it, Chen, you have to stand up for me! Get rid of that bastard!”
In a private booth at Imperial KTV, a man named Chen sat, accompanied by Tiger whose face was so battered it was barely recognizable.
Chen smiled at Tiger’s appearance.
“Tell me what happened.”
His tone was calm, but Tiger didn’t dare underestimate him. He immediately recounted everything, detailing the events of the night.
Chen frowned, lost in thought.
After a while, he said, “Bai Liang, follow him and check it out. Find that kid and bring him here.”
“I want to see who in Silver City dares disrespect me—someone who even dares hit Tiger.”
Though he said this, Chen didn’t even look at Tiger.
He was merely interested in Shen An based on Tiger’s account.
Bai Liang was an Awakened; ordinary people meant nothing to him. He immediately understood Chen’s intent.
The one who beat up Tiger was likely an Awakened as well.
From the description, it seemed the man had just awakened. Dealing with someone like that would be effortless.
For some reason, though, Chen felt the man seemed familiar, but he couldn’t quite place him.
Having received permission, Tiger quickly gathered a few men and left with Bai Liang.
Their search was rough.
They questioned every passerby, and no one dared refuse.
Before long, someone recognized Shen An, pointed to the upper floor, and gave them the exact address.
Shen An, about to sleep, heard the commotion outside.
“Open up! Open up, damn it, hurry!”
Having confirmed Shen An’s address, they quickly found his place.
Curious, Shen An opened the door and found Tiger and his men outside.
“Brother Bai, that’s him. Get rid of him.”
Tiger glared at Shen An, pointing at him with a murderous look.
He hated Shen An so much he could have torn his heart out.
The security door rattled from their pounding, but none of the neighbors dared come out. Some didn’t even dare call the police.
