Chapter Three: I Think This Is a Misunderstanding
But what exactly was this talent value? With a thought, a virtual data panel appeared before Shen An’s eyes, listing three skills and their levels:
Talent [Devour], Talent Value: Grade B (1/10,000)
Talent [Space], Talent Value: Grade S (1/1,000,000)
Hidden Talent [Connect to the Future], Talent Value: Grade SA (1/10,000,000)
Available Talent Value: 15,000
Hidden talent? Connect to the Future… Shen An immediately thought of that brief contact. If only he could reach that person again. To connect to the future—what a power, even greater than foresight!
Just as he was about to delve into how to use the talent value, he suddenly realized his body was being shaken. With a thought, he exited the space.
Opening his eyes, the first thing he saw was a pair of long, slender legs—so pale under the moonlight in this pitch-dark night that they almost dazzled him.
He couldn’t help but wonder how they would feel to the touch...
That was the very first thought in Shen An’s mind!
Looking up, he saw the figure before him suddenly crouch down, their gaze meeting his—a cold but beautiful face.
A stunning armed policewoman?
Shen An grinned awkwardly and said, “Hello, officer. What’s going on?”
“The mountain is sealed off. How did you get in? What are you doing here?” Bai Weiwei’s brows knitted as she spoke in a cold voice.
“I… uh, came to enjoy the moonlight…”
Shen An smiled. He would never reveal his true purpose. He suspected this beautiful policewoman’s purpose was the same as his; telling her would be as good as asking for death.
Bai Weiwei raised an eyebrow and glanced at their surroundings, giving a dry laugh. “Came to Qianling Mountain to admire the moon? Quite an idea.”
“Honestly, I really like it here!” Shen An responded with a straight face. “I brought a tent to camp. See that big rock? I was sitting there enjoying the moon when suddenly someone shouted at me. I slipped and fell into the water! Scared me to death—I can’t even swim! Was it you who saved me?”
Upon hearing this, Bai Weiwei’s eyes grew sharp, and she quickly asked, “You saw the lake?”
“Yeah, I saw it. It’s so big, how could I miss it?” Shen An nodded, deliberately glancing around, then asked in surprise, “Hey, where’s the water? Why is it gone?”
“Did you notice anything unusual? Any strange phenomena?”
“Not at the time. Just thought it smelled nice.”
Bai Weiwei’s cold gaze lingered on Shen An, making his scalp tingle. He could tell this woman was not easy to deal with.
She stood up, picked up her gear from the ground, and walked away without looking back.
Shen An thought he’d gotten off the hook, but Bai Weiwei’s cold voice came from ahead: “Bring him.”
Immediately, several armed police officers ‘invited’ Shen An into a vehicle.
Shen An spread his hands—he didn’t really care, after all, he had already obtained the ‘Origin Oxygen’!
Moreover, he had a premonition that this ‘Origin Oxygen’ would decide the course of the future, becoming a symbol of power, a tool of domination!
Just as that person had said, the world would undergo great upheaval!
As for this beautiful officer, there was nothing left for her—the Origin Oxygen of Qianling Mountain had been completely absorbed by him, and even the lake had been taken into his spatial domain.
“Name.”
Inside the vehicle, Bai Weiwei questioned him coldly.
“My name is Shen An, twenty years old, a college sophomore who just dropped out,” Shen An replied with a smile.
Bai Weiwei frowned. “Why did you drop out?”
Shen An made up a story on the spot, “Couldn’t afford the tuition anymore.”
“You couldn’t afford tuition, yet you’re in the mood to admire the moon?”
Bai Weiwei was quick to catch the contradiction in Shen An’s words.
But what annoyed her wasn’t that Shen An was lying—it was that his lies were so sloppy, so brazen, as if he was toying with her.
Shen An chuckled. From Bai Weiwei’s changing expression, he could tell she didn’t have the patience to play word games with him.
Sure enough, after a brief pause, Bai Weiwei began searching his travel bag.
Unfortunately for her, Shen An had already anticipated the risk of being caught and had brought nothing that could confirm his identity.
“Well prepared, aren’t you?” Bai Weiwei’s face was icy, the cool moonlight in her eyes flashing a warning.
Shen An replied, “Don’t look at me like that. I just came to look at the moon—I haven’t done anything illegal.”
Bai Weiwei narrowed her eyes.
The only reason she was wasting time questioning him was precisely because Shen An hadn’t broken any laws or regulations.
But as a rising star of her organization, was she really going to let herself be played by a college dropout?
She couldn’t swallow her pride.
With a swift move, Shen An didn’t even see how she did it—suddenly a pistol appeared in her hand.
The cold barrel pressed against his temple.
Even Shen An, who had tried to stay calm, now truly began to panic.
He had never even been held at knifepoint, let alone by a gun.
Cold sweat broke out on Shen An’s face. Bai Weiwei noticed this detail and allowed a slight curve to her lips.
“You clearly know something. But perhaps you’ve misunderstood one thing.” Bai Weiwei tapped the police insignia on her cap with her index finger, letting Shen An see it clearly.
“We don’t necessarily have to follow the rules.”
Bai Weiwei had successfully intimidated him, and a victor’s smile appeared on her face.
As for Shen An, bitterness welled up within him.
Damn it, this Bai Weiwei—she’s not really an armed police officer at all!
The insignia on her hat, at first glance, closely resembled the real thing. Coupled with her field uniform and the reports that the area was under police lockdown, all the clues had led Shen An to assume she was the real deal.
But now, he realized she wasn’t!
“Who are you really?” Shen An’s nerves tensed.
Although he’d been told the world was about to change dramatically, at this point, very few people had realized it.
Even the authorities wouldn’t break the established order lightly; otherwise, they’d only provoke unrest.
That’s why Shen An had felt confident facing the armed police—he hadn’t broken any laws, so they couldn’t do anything to him.
But now things were different.
This woman wasn’t police—so who, or what, was she?
She was here for Origin Oxygen too. Could she, like him, have been guided by someone?
Staring at the black muzzle before him, Shen An swallowed hard.
“This… I really think there’s been a misunderstanding.”
Bai Weiwei was unmoved. “So, why did you really come here?”
Shen An’s heart pounded with anxiety, but he knew he absolutely couldn’t admit that he had taken the Origin Oxygen—otherwise, not even the gods could save him.
He thought for a moment, then said, “Someone told me if I came here at this time, something extraordinary would happen.”
That was the truth; even if Bai Weiwei used a lie detector, she wouldn’t find any flaw.
Hearing this answer, Bai Weiwei was finally taken aback.
“Who told you? And what did you encounter when you got here?”
