Chapter 138: What Lies Within the Prison

Faced with such a savage beast, Shen An had no choice but to remain wary.
At that moment, several elders and a number of counts from the Grandmaster Council had gathered in the monitoring room outside the prison.
All of the counts were over fifty, and none of them looked particularly youthful.
Watching the images on the monitors, the Vampire Count smiled. “I wager he’ll last three moves at most against the beast’s attacks. What do you think, Count Wind?”
Count Wind gave a faint smile. He lifted a glass of red wine, swirled it gently, and then drained it in one gulp. “Hahaha, three moves? I doubt he can even withstand one. That beast has been starving for a long time. It isn’t something an ordinary person could possibly resist.”
“Heh, you’re right. By saying three moves, I was clearly overestimating him.” The Vampire Count nodded.
“Indeed, indeed. Three moves really is too generous. He might last two at most,” Count Wind said.
The elders of the Grandmaster Council, however, held entirely different opinions.
“I cannot agree with either of you,” the First Elder said confidently. “I believe Shen An can withstand at least twenty exchanges against the beast.”
“First Elder, you’re being far too conservative,” said the Second Elder. “I believe Shen An can hold out for at least thirty exchanges.”
The counts stared at the two elders in astonishment.
“Why are the First Elder and Second Elder so confident in that young man?” the Vampire Count asked. “Could he truly possess some extraordinary quality?”
“You may not know this, Vampire Count,” said the Third Elder. “Not long ago, that young man named Shen An underwent a talent assessment and achieved a talent score of one hundred thousand. The First Elder has therefore declared that, once he completes this trial, he will be promoted directly to the rank of count.”
The counts were all deeply shocked. Every one of them had spent decades in the Grandmaster Council, earning countless merits before reaching their current positions.
Yet now, a young man was about to be granted a status equal to theirs?

“Are you certain, Third Elder?” the Vampire Count asked. “He is merely a young man. Why does the First Elder hold him in such high regard?”
“A talent score of one hundred thousand is indeed astonishing,” another count said. “But the Grandmaster Council has never had a count barely past twenty. Is it truly appropriate to appoint him?”
“Heh. Since the proposal came from the First Elder, there is little we can say,” Count Wind replied. “But that young man may not be capable of defeating the beast. Let us simply watch and see how it brings him down.”
“Then let us wait and see. I, for one, believe Shen An may actually defeat the beast.” The Third Elder possessed an intense confidence in Shen An.
Within the dimly lit prison, Shen An fixed the beast with a cold gaze.
It resembled a leopard, yet its entire body was covered in bluish skin, giving it a terrifying appearance.
Even ordinary weapons would likely find it difficult to penetrate that hide.
Shen An drew his Black Iron Sword and swept his gaze over the creature. His expression was cold and solemn, while the sword gleamed with a frigid light. Even the savage beast sensed a hint of danger.
The beast suddenly pounced.
Shen An raised his sword to block, but the force of the impact drove him back several steps. One had to understand that even a late-stage Third-Grade Awakened would find it difficult to achieve such power.
This beast was far too strong.
“What a powerful beast. It seems I truly cannot afford to underestimate it. I’ll have to deal with it seriously,” Shen An muttered.
He then infused the Black Iron Sword with powerful internal energy. As the energy poured into it, the sword seemed to become shrouded in a layer of radiance.
Its edge grew sharper, and its power became even more formidable.
“Die, beast!”
With a shout, Shen An swung the Black Iron Sword directly into the creature’s body, forcing it back again and again.
The scene of the beast being driven backward appeared on the monitors and entered the view of countless observers. One by one, they stared in shock.
Everyone present possessed a highly respected status within the Grandmaster Council. For such people to be astonished, the feat had to be truly extraordinary.
“His strength is indeed formidable. It seems he has actually managed to withstand the beast’s assault. That creature has been starving for a long time, yet he can still contend with it…” The Vampire Count was utterly stunned. Even if he himself had faced the beast, he might not have achieved what Shen An had.
In his eyes, Shen An was unquestionably a powerful expert.

“As expected of someone with a talent score of one hundred thousand. He actually managed to force the beast back. I would have no objection to such a young man becoming a count of the Grandmaster Council. What do the rest of you think?”
Count Wind stared at the surveillance screen, astonishment filling his eyes. Even he could never have accomplished such a feat.
“It is truly inconceivable. Strength of this level can only be described as astonishing.”
“Perhaps he really can defeat the beast and become the youngest count in the history of the Grandmaster Council,” another count said.
“Now do you believe it, gentlemen?” the First Elder said. “This is the extent of his strength. With his abilities, dealing with the beast is hardly a particularly difficult task.”
Shen An, who was engaged in battle with the beast, naturally had no idea what the counts were discussing. He was focused solely on dealing with his opponent.
“This creature is somewhat stronger than I expected. But from this point on, I’ll have to take it even more seriously. Prepare yourself. This strike will take your life!”
Shen An thrust his sword forward, aiming straight for the beast’s eye.
The beast sensed the enormous danger in the attack. If that sword pierced its eye, it would surely die.
Naturally, it tried to evade.
Yet the more desperately it attempted to escape, the less capable it was of doing so.
It was as though Shen An’s sword possessed a tracking system of its own.
“Roar! Roar! Roar!”
The beast let out a howl of agony. The Black Iron Sword had already pierced its eye, and terrifying internal energy surged into its body, tearing apart its internal organs.
No matter how powerful its external defenses were, they could not withstand an assault from the Black Iron Sword. The eruption of energy left the beast with no choice but to retreat.
Shen An smiled faintly and pulled the Black Iron Sword free.
Then he thrust it once more into the beast’s wound.
That savage strike carried such terrifying destructive power that it was enough to kill the beast outright.
The beast collapsed onto the ground as blood spread into a pool beneath it.
The sight left everyone utterly stunned.
