Chapter 135: The Three Elders
Black Bear said, “Grand Elder, let me give it a try. My talent should have reached ten thousand by now.”
Black Bear had lost to Shen An in actual combat, and he absolutely could not afford to lose to him in talent as well. After all, he was the berserker of the Grandmaster Council, and failure was not an option.
“Are you really going to test your talent?” the Grand Elder asked.
Black Bear nodded seriously. “Grand Elder, I want certain people to see what a true genius looks like. I reached the mid-stage of the Third Rank in just a few short years. Naturally, my talent is extraordinary.”
“Hmph. You may have won by luck in actual combat, but there will be no room for trickery in this talent test. This time, I’ll leave you far behind,” Black Bear declared.
Shen An paid him no attention. He merely watched in silence as Black Bear stepped onto the testing device. At the same time, the number displayed on it began to rise rapidly—five hundred, one thousand, two thousand…
The speed of the increase drew satisfied nods from the elders nearby.
“It seems Black Bear’s strength has improved again. I never expected him to advance so quickly. He must have been cultivating diligently all this time,” the Grand Elder said with satisfaction.
“Black Bear is the genius I personally brought into the Grandmaster Council. His talent is extraordinary, and ordinary people cannot compare with him. He is nothing like certain people who think they are impressive just because they happened to win through trickery in actual combat,” the Second Elder said, clearly referring to Shen An.
“Second Elder, Shen An is merely a newcomer. After joining the Grandmaster Council, he still has much to learn. You… needn’t make things so difficult for him, do you?” said the Third Elder.
Shen An had also noticed the elders of the Grandmaster Council. The Second Elder, in particular, made him uncomfortable, and he had no favorable impression of him.
At that moment, Black Bear stood upon the testing device, whose displayed value had already reached five thousand. It was almost unbelievable.
“Five thousand! He reached a talent value of five thousand so easily. As expected of Black Bear, the berserker of our Grandmaster Council,” the Second Elder exclaimed.
Shen An was puzzled. Was a talent value of five thousand really that impressive? He had never taken the test, so he had no idea what five thousand actually represented.
“Young man, you probably don’t understand,” the Grand Elder explained. “A talent value of five thousand is already enough to reach the Second Rank with ease. I believe Black Bear’s talent is far beyond five thousand. He may even surpass ten thousand.”

“Yes. It seems Black Bear has improved considerably during this period,” the Third Elder added.
The elders of the Grandmaster Council were all deeply astonished by Black Bear’s strength.
Shen An smiled. He, too, was beginning to feel eager to test his own talent.
Before long, Black Bear’s talent value stopped at twelve thousand. Such a figure was astonishing enough.
Black Bear naturally understood how remarkable that number was.
“I didn’t expect my talent value to have reached twelve thousand. Heh… Now it’s your turn. But don’t push yourself too hard. I’d say your maximum is no more than three thousand,” Black Bear said indifferently, his eyes filled with contempt. Clearly, he believed Shen An had no chance of defeating him in talent.
Shen An did not care. At present, he only wanted to find out what his own talent value was.
“Black Bear, step down. It’s Shen An’s turn to be tested. I wonder what value he’ll reach,” the Grand Elder said, his eyes filled with anticipation.
Shen An walked up to the testing device and slowly stepped onto it. He had observed Black Bear’s entire test and felt certain he could handle it as well.
The number on the device immediately began to soar—one thousand, two thousand, three thousand, four thousand…
Before long, Shen An’s talent value had surpassed the three thousand Black Bear had predicted and reached five thousand.
Black Bear was utterly shocked. He stared at Shen An in disbelief. “How is this possible? How could his talent value have reached five thousand so easily? That’s two thousand more than I estimated. This is unbelievable.”
“Hmph. No matter how capable you are, you still can’t surpass my figure of twelve thousand. Your limit should be around seven thousand, right?” Black Bear said, convinced that Shen An’s value could never exceed seven thousand.
The black-robed elders were also somewhat astonished by the sight.
“I never expected him to reach five thousand so easily. If this continues, he should reach seven thousand very soon. I wonder whether he might even surpass the ten thousand Black Bear reached before,” the Grand Elder said, anticipation evident in his eyes.
“Reach ten thousand? I’m afraid it won’t be that easy. Black Bear initially reached only seven thousand as well. He was able to reach ten thousand entirely because of his arduous cultivation. Without that hard work, he could never have reached ten thousand,” the Third Elder said.

“Hmph. He actually thinks he can surpass Black Bear? He should take a look at his own strength first. Seven or eight thousand ought to be his limit.”
The test continued.
Five thousand, six thousand, seven thousand, eight thousand…
The value surpassed eight thousand and reached ten thousand.
At this point, Black Bear’s expression changed. He was afraid that Shen An might truly surpass him. If Shen An overtook him in talent, wouldn’t that make him a laughingstock?
After all, he had just boasted that Shen An could never surpass ten thousand. Yet now, Shen An had genuinely exceeded it.
“Impossible. Ten thousand is absolutely the highest value he can reach. His strength should stop there,” Black Bear said.
“Heh heh, ten thousand already. Shen An’s talent is truly astonishing. Perhaps his status will one day surpass Black Bear’s. I’m really looking forward to seeing him join the Grandmaster Council,” the Grand Elder said.
At that moment, the Second Elder’s expression was more bitter than a bitter melon. As he stared at the data Shen An had produced, he was completely shaken.
“What? He’s actually this powerful? He surpassed ten thousand so easily. Is his talent truly that great? Impossible, impossible. I must be seeing things,” the Second Elder muttered. He did not want to see Shen An’s talent surpass Black Bear’s.
After all, Black Bear was the person he valued most.
“Heh heh, he surpassed ten thousand so effortlessly. It seems his talent value may be even higher than Black Bear’s. I’m truly looking forward to what happens next,” the Third Elder said.
“Hmph! There’s no way he can surpass twelve thousand. How could twelve thousand be exceeded so casually?” the Second Elder snorted.
“Second Elder, your judgment doesn’t seem particularly accurate. I believe there’s a very good chance he’ll surpass twelve thousand.”
