Chapter Ninety-Five: The Imperial Capital, Part Two

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2351 words 2026-02-09 13:12:03

The jewel thief was driving ahead when he spotted them again. His mood soured at once; in truth, he really did not want to stand against them. But the road he had chosen left him no choice. Even if he had to crawl, he would see it through to the end.

Han could see what was on the jewel thief’s mind. He guessed that in this whole group, only the two of them harbored such thoughts. The others had already taken the pills; even without them, they would still have remained utterly loyal to the boss.

“Did you know they’d be here? Aren’t you afraid that showing your hand like this will make the boss turn on us?” With no outsiders in the car, the jewel thief spoke quite naturally.

“You don’t need to worry about it. You can pretend you know nothing,” Han said lightly, then closed his eyes to rest. The ones he truly wanted to see were not these two at all; it was only that she had not stopped. If there was no meeting, then so be it.

The jewel thief obediently shut his mouth and kept driving forward. Only when he glanced back did he realize the car behind them was catching up. That made things bad.

Seeing the jewel thief suddenly look back, Han knew those two had come after them. It did not matter. In any case, with so many forks in the road ahead, they would never find the right people. Right now, he did not want to betray the boss. As long as the boss did not do anything to hurt Qianyin, he would keep his promise.

“Idiot, speed up. Move,” Han began to pity the jewel thief’s intelligence. Brother, are you driving this slowly because you want them to stop you and sit down for tea and a chat?

“Oh.” The moment the jewel thief heard the order, he immediately accelerated. The car shot forward like a streak of light.

Behind them, Molan and An Feng both frowned. Was this jewel thief driving so fast because he did not want his life anymore? Was he messing with them?

An Feng felt the urge to grind his teeth. If he caught this jewel thief, he would flay him and tear him limb from limb. Always ruining his good deeds. His uncle had once treated him so well, yet he had turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Molan did not know what scheme they were up to. She only wanted to stop them and ask a few questions; she had never intended to bring them in. If they really were so uncooperative, then there was no choice but to fight.

But the other car was moving too fast. In an instant it had overtaken two vehicles and shot to the front, and it was almost at the fork in the road. There was no catching up now.

Fuming, An Feng slammed the steering wheel. Was that bastard just making a fool of him?

“Forget it. Let’s hurry and meet up with them. They’re probably already waiting anxiously. Since they’re all here in River City, it looks like they’re after the same auction. We’ll meet sooner or later.” Molan comforted him. After all, he was her boyfriend now; she could not let him act so rashly, and she had a duty to keep an eye on him too.

At her words, An Feng calmed down and drove on quietly, keeping his composure.

On the other side, the five who had arrived at their destination regrouped. When they found Molan and An Feng were missing, all of them looked a little odd. Where had those two gone? Could they have gotten lost?

Boss Jin waved a hand and said, “It’s fine. Let them be. It’s good for the young couple to go off and have some fun, relax a little. If you two want to go as well, I’m fine with that. Go on, go on.”

After speaking, Boss Jin took two bodyguards and went inside. It was a small villa in a relatively secluded area, but the scenery here was excellent, with birds singing and flowers blooming all along the way.

Leng Xue had long since noticed all of this, and he wanted to build one here too. But it was too close to Boss Jin, and he was not especially willing. If he were no longer an assassin and became an ordinary person, being constantly bothered by these important figures would not do.

Qianyin shook her head, saying she had not rested well and wanted to sleep. Leng Xue had originally wanted to go out for a walk, but when he saw how exhausted she was, he shook his head too and followed her inside.

The furnishings inside were decent. Qianyin directly occupied the room on the second floor closest to the window; as soon as the window was opened, one could see the greenery outside, as if she had come to a paradise on earth.

There were originally enough rooms, but Leng Xue insisted that the two of them stay in the same one. Qianyin gave him a strange look, but did not refuse. Just like that, the two prepared to share a room.

Boss Jin did not care about these people’s private affairs. Not long after sitting down, he left again with two bodyguards, claiming he was going to meet a client.

That left only Qianyin and Leng Xue in the villa. The two of them sat idly in front of the television, watching the latest news. Leng Xue peeled oranges beside her, and the two of them lounged there so leisurely.

Because the gates to the assassin world had been closed last time, Qianyin had not gone up to look around recently. It was good to occasionally watch the outside world’s news anyway; after all, it let her learn more about things happening beyond her immediate surroundings.

When Molan and An Feng finally arrived, they saw the two of them eating fruit and watching the news. So carefree.

“Where did you two go on your little date just now?” Qianyin asked as soon as she saw Molan take the seat beside her.

Molan casually picked up a fruit and, while peeling it, said, “Nowhere. We just took a few pictures along the way.”

“Yes, the scenery on the way here was beautiful. Even the scenery around here is beautiful. If you want to take photos, the entrance is perfect for it,” Qianyin said, eating a piece of fruit and nodding.

Molan shook her head. For the moment, she would not take any more photos. It was not as much fun as she had imagined. But she could not understand what sort of mentality made ordinary people want to photograph everything they saw.

An Feng sat nearby without speaking. His head hurt a little, and he wanted to sleep. He simply sank into the sofa, closed his eyes, and drifted off. The other three were still watching the news and did not notice at all.

On the news, a reporter was interviewing people about the River City auction. He was at the auction site, and the staff did not seem to welcome their presence. The auction was being held by an old man, advanced in years and looking like a rather inflexible traditionalist.

Facing the reporters, he wore a displeased expression and did not hide it much, his tone extremely stern.

“What do you think is the significance of this auction?” Molan asked curiously. She was not very interested in such matters. She only asked on Boss Jin’s behalf; after all, he had just unearthed the Rainbow Radiance Jade, and there was concern someone might make a move against him.

Qianyin shook her head. How could she know such a thing? No matter how much news she watched, she still would not be able to know. Leng Xue said nothing. He kept watching the news and had no intention of paying attention to the two girls. They could discuss their private matters; men should not listen too closely.

When Molan got no answer and did not hear An Feng either, she turned around, only to find that An Feng had actually fallen asleep. It was too strange. How could a healthy man who had only just driven a little be so tired that he slept like that?

Molan hurried over and carefully touched An Feng’s forehead. It was burning hot. That guy had actually developed a fever.

“Drive faster! We need to take An Feng to see a doctor. He has a fever!” Molan cried anxiously. Only then did Qianyin and Leng Xue turn to look at An Feng and realize his face really was flushed red.

Leng Xue immediately went out to drive. Molan and Qianyin quickly helped An Feng outside. After a flurry of hurried actions, An Feng was soon sent to the hospital.
