Chapter Ninety-Two: Shadowed by a Follower

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2347 words 2026-02-09 13:12:01

Because a few drivers had to remain sober, the ones behind the wheel had not touched the liquor. Aaron, the cold-faced one, and one of the bodyguards over there had no intention of tasting it either.

After pouring the drinks, the man bowed once more and led his people out.

The four youths each had only a little, and though it tasted quite good, they soon felt a touch of dizziness.

When they had finished, they simply collapsed onto the table.

Moran and Qinyin hurried over to check their breathing. Only then did they realize the four had merely fallen asleep, and they looked at the old immortal in confusion.

The old immortal sniffed the wine in the cup, examined it carefully, even licked a little from the rim, and then said calmly, “It is only a very strong liquor, nothing unusual about it. I suppose they simply cannot hold their drink, which is why they got drunk.”

Only the four little ones had drunk it; no one else had touched the glass at all. Aaron was the first to sense that something was off, but he had already used his ability today and had no way to probe a second time.

“Waiter, the bill,” Aaron called out. The waiter at the door immediately came in again, still carrying the same little ledger.

“Oh, sir, your bill has already been taken care of by someone else, so you may leave directly.” With that, the waiter stood by respectfully, waiting.

At once, everyone frowned. Who would have paid for them? All the people they knew were sitting right here.

No matter. They had better hurry back to the Mo family.

The others rose one by one as well. Since the four little ones had fallen asleep, the two bodyguards of Boss Jin each carried one of them; Aaron took one, and the cold-faced one took the other, ready to leave.

Moran and Qinyin led the old immortal and the old master Mo in front, while the little uncle brought up the rear, watching everyone depart.

Once they were out at the hotel entrance, each person got into a car. The little uncle was to be sent back first by Aaron.

Moran glanced in the direction Aaron’s car drove off and could not shake the feeling that something was wrong. Was something important happening without anyone noticing?

Boss Jin took two of the little ones with him in one car, while another bodyguard rode with the other two little ones alongside the cold-faced man.

Moran, Qinyin, the old immortal, and the old master Mo rode together in one car, with Moran driving.

They had barely left the hotel when another car began tailing them, apparently fixed on their vehicle, pressing after them relentlessly.

Qinyin and Moran exchanged a look.

Could it be that the boss’s people were making another move? They had prepared for this, but the situation was a little urgent now.

Moran quickly accelerated and turned onto a side road. They could not continue on the main road. The side road was only wide enough for one car to pass; no one could overtake them, and no one could block them off.

They could not tell how many people were in the car behind them, because the dark glass made it impossible to see. What should they do? From here, the side road curved around nearly half a circle.

If they called the others now, they would surely rush back. But bringing those little ones along would not be good. The four children were already deeply asleep; bringing them back would only become a burden.

The old immortal and Old Master Mo sat in the back with complete composure, utterly untroubled. Qinyin and Moran were both frantic. Even if those people could not beat the two of them, if they injured or captured the two old men, would they still have any reason to fight at all?

“At the bend ahead, you three get out and I’ll drive alone. Qinyin, protect those two. Once they reach a safe place, come find me at once.” Moran made the decision immediately to draw them away by herself.

Ahead was a very sharp turn, difficult to handle. If they got out there, the people behind would never notice anyone waiting around the bend. But they had to move fast, or they would be caught.

“How can you do that? What if you get hurt?” Qinyin objected at once. Moran going alone would surely mean danger; she could not be so reckless.

“Yes, Xiaolan, think this through carefully.” Old Master Mo was worried now. If Moran had to bear all of this alone, it pained him far more than if he himself were the one to endure it.

The old immortal said nothing, only gazing quietly at the sharp turn fast approaching. He had already unfastened his seat belt, ready to leap from the car at any moment.

“You call the cold-faced one and have him come pick me up. I’ll do the dangerous part. I’m much better suited for it than you are.” Qinyin had made up her mind. It seemed these two people in the car were both very important, and she alone was not so important after all.

“No.” The three of them said it in unison.

Then they each looked at the others in the car and made the same decision: they would face hardship together.

“Stop dawdling. All of you get out of the car, or else I’ll never speak to any of you again.” Qinyin had almost reached the sharp turn as she spoke. She opened the door and shoved Moran out. The two old men got out very naturally, dragging Moran into cover beside the road.

Qinyin shut the door at once, alone, and took the turn before continuing forward.

She sped up, since roads like this were rarely crowded. The lane was narrow, and turning was inconvenient for drivers.

Sure enough, the pursuing car immediately followed around the bend after her, not caring in the least about the three people left standing by the corner.

The three at the bend all frowned. Moran immediately took out her phone and called the cold-faced one, knowing full well he might not answer, but she had to try.

Because it was Boss Jin’s bodyguard who had been driving, the cold-faced one still had some freedom. When he saw Moran’s call, his brows drew together. What had happened?

After thinking it over, he realized Moran rarely called him unless something had happened to Qinyin. At that thought, he answered at once.

“Hello?”

“Cold-faced one, you know that side road, right? Come drive over here. Something happened to Qinyin. A car has been following us, and Qinyin lured them away.” Moran spoke very quickly. If anything happened to Qinyin, she would feel deeply guilty, and she knew that every time Qinyin rushed forward first, it was for her sake.

After hearing this, the cold-faced one frowned and glanced at the group in the car. It was still ten minutes before they would reach the Mo residence. If something had happened to Qinyin, how could he wait?

“Stop the car.” Without another word, he hung up and looked up at the bodyguard.

The bodyguard glanced at him in confusion, but still quickly found a place to pull over and let the cold-faced one out.

The moment he got out, his eyes fell on a car nearby. He strode over, glanced at the driver still sitting inside, and because the vehicle was empty, he took it as his target.

“Give me the car. Name your price.” His voice was cold as ice. He wanted to have the car immediately.

“Ah, no need to pay. Go ahead and take it.” Heaven knew this owner was also something of a character. He actually got out at once, did not even remove the key, and stood aside watching the cold-faced one get in and drive away, remaining there quietly.

The other bodyguard watched everything in silence from the other side, stunned.

There was even such a brazen way to seize a car?
