Chapter 152: Returning to Nanjing

Along the way, Old Master Mo remained angry and disappointed, tightly closing his eyes, his heart both aching and furious. Mo Fan, that unfilial grandson, still hadn’t returned, and now this ungrateful youth was causing so much trouble, making everyone resentful. What was happening to the Mo family? Were they preparing to lose everything they currently held?
Mo Lan didn’t know how to handle the family matters. She lacked the heart for it. This household always felt distant and unfamiliar to her; she was like an outsider who couldn’t fit in, let alone have the right to dictate anything.
Trying hard to make everyone smile during the journey, no one could genuinely laugh. Mo Fan was still missing, and Old Master Mo had become like this; no one’s heart was joyful.
“Qian Yin, when all this is over, where do you plan to go? Will you continue being an assassin?” Mo Lan pondered for a moment before deciding to ask the question she had always wanted to. Cold-blooded was gone before—what about now?
Qian Yin glanced back at Mo Lan, who sat beside her without a smile, then turned to look at the scenery outside. It was still beautiful, just lacking a hint of the usual joy.
With a smile, Qian Yin said, “Once the boss’s matters are settled, I will leave the assassin world and retire with Xian Lao. I won’t meddle in other things. I just hope to attend your wedding and drink your celebratory wine.”
She mentioned this deliberately, not wanting everyone present to worry about her future. And indeed, she looked forward to their wedding. Though they sometimes quarreled, those two were truly well-matched. People who loved each other sincerely would certainly live happily together.
Upon hearing about his granddaughter’s wedding, Old Master Mo’s lips curled into a smile, setting aside his gloomy mood as he looked happily at An Feng, who was driving. Mo Lan and An Feng’s faces and ears quietly flushed; neither spoke, and An Feng focused even more on the road.
Seeing this, Qian Yin teased, “You’re not going to keep me from drinking at your wedding and just send me away, right? I’m supposed to be the only bridesmaid for Mo Lan—no one else can replace me.”
“You talk too much; no one asked you,” Mo Lan replied awkwardly, turning to gaze out the window. Her face grew even redder, but a dreamy smile played on her lips, as if longing for such a life.
The once gloomy atmosphere gradually lightened, and everyone wore a smile of yearning for happiness.

Behind them, Boss Jin was not pleased. He had just received news that the quantity of “Seven-Colored Jade” was slowly diminishing. They hadn’t started auctioning anything yet—why was it decreasing? Was it because they knew he intended to seize it?
The two bodyguards, already displeased, were driving behind, faintly hearing the laughter from the cars ahead. That laughter was truly uplifting, and even Boss Jin relaxed his furrowed brows, closing his eyes quietly.
Seeing An Feng tired, Qian Yin offered to take over driving, which he didn’t refuse, hoping to chat with Mo Lan in the backseat. Mo Lan disagreed, but after some dispute, even Old Master Mo sided with Qian Yin, allowing the two, with their subtle flirtation, to sit together in the back.
As Qian Yin drove, memories of Cold-Blooded surfaced. The passenger seat of Cold-Blooded’s car and the back of his motorcycle had always been hers alone. How could this man leave so easily, abandon her so readily?
Old Master Mo was startled when the car suddenly accelerated. Even the two bodyguards, heads lowered and silent, quickly looked up ahead. A car was attempting to cut in, prompting Qian Yin to swerve swiftly.
Qian Yin sensed the other car’s intent was deliberate. While frequently glancing ahead, she also occasionally looked back since Boss Jin’s group was following.
The two bodyguards, seeing the road blocked, immediately moved right to overtake, closely tailing Qian Yin’s car, ignoring the troublemaker’s vehicle.
Relieved to see them pass safely, Qian Yin kept her gaze fixed forward, determined to stay alert lest someone cause trouble again. Hadn’t the boss’s group already caused enough casualties? Why wouldn’t they stop?
An Feng noticed Mo Lan’s worried look and understood that Old Master Mo was unlike the others in the Mo family—he must be protected.
The other car behind crashed into a tree and the driver got out. Those ahead didn’t notice the familiar figure stepping out. The man stared fixedly at the cars driving away.
“It seems we can’t stop them; we have no choice but to face it,” he murmured, then got back into his car to drive off for repairs. His face remained masked, but his eyes showed helplessness.
“Why didn’t that man chase after them?” Mo Lan kept glancing back, trying to reassure Qian Yin as she drove. She was puzzled—if those people intended to harm this group, they wouldn’t have given up so easily. Blocking the road was likely meant to stop them from reaching Nanjing.

What shameful secrets did Nanjing hold? Or was there something there that threatened them?
An Feng’s brow twitched suddenly, sensing something ominous. Though he didn’t know who those people were, he had a bad feeling.
“I don’t know. The car tried to ram us but slowed down gradually, never fully committed. Maybe it lost control.” Qian Yin didn’t understand either and tried to comfort herself. The world wasn’t filled with so many villains; it was just coincidence. After all, she herself was among the bad ones.
Old Master Mo said nothing, quietly watching the road ahead. This journey had to be safe, or else he would never be able to play chess with Xian Lao again. Not out of fear of death, but because he dreaded having no one to play with, feeling lonely in the afterlife.
The rest of the trip went unusually smoothly. They soon arrived in Nanjing and returned to the Mo family’s pharmacy. Qian Yin didn’t go inside, only saying, “I want to take a walk. You handle your matters.”
“I’ll accompany you,” Mo Lan said, uneasy. With An Feng protecting Old Master Mo, that was enough, but without Cold-Blooded by her side, Qian Yin could go anywhere before. Now, things were different.
“You should learn to handle the Mo family’s affairs. No need to accompany me—I’m not a child; I can take care of myself,” Qian Yin smiled and turned toward the main street.
Mo Lan glanced at Old Master Mo, who was about to wave her off, signaling her to go with Qian Yin. Boss Jin arrived, seeing this, and smiled, saying, “Let’s go accompany her. You handle your business.”
Mo Lan looked at An Feng, then Old Master Mo, and nodded at Boss Jin. The three returned inside under the servants’ escort to review the accounts and prepare a contract.
Boss Jin glanced at the two bodyguards and then followed Qian Yin on foot. She was merely taking a stroll, not rushing to find a place. She wanted to observe the terrain—to find the house that was most concealed, safest, and coziest.
