Chapter 150: Saving Master Mo (Part IV)

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2370 words 2026-04-01 06:56:35

Old Master Mo had not yet gone to sleep. Having waited for over four hours without seeing anyone return, he grew anxious and began pacing back and forth incessantly. The Immortal Elder, sitting nearby, found the display utterly exasperating; to him, Old Master Mo’s behavior suggested that Qianyin was likely in trouble.

An Feng had finally arrived outside. Seeing the lights still on in the house despite the early hours of the morning, he called out, "Mo Lan, Qianyin, wake up. We’re home."

Old Master Mo, having been jolted throughout the rough journey, had long since passed out from the pain. Awakened now by An Feng’s shouting, he glared at him with malice.

Mo Lan and Qianyin, both light sleepers, woke up immediately at the sound. As they stepped out of the vehicle to help the man, Qianyin felt a surge of irritation at the sight of Old Master Mo’s hateful expression. She thought the old man was truly troublesome; they had set aside their grievances to save him, and he ought to be grateful rather than harboring resentment toward his rescuers.

An Feng paid no mind, slowly helping Old Master Mo inside. Mo Lan and Qianyin followed behind, looking relaxed; they had already caught some sleep, and though they were exhausted and hungry from the long night, they were otherwise fine.

The house servants watched the scene with lowered heads, not daring to speak. As soon as the group entered, the thick smell of blood hit them, indicating that Old Master Mo’s injuries were severe. Because they were under the care of the arrivals, none of the servants dared to step forward to assist.

When Old Master Mo finally saw them enter the hall, he hurried forward. Not seeing Mo Fan, but only his foolish, brainless son, his anger flared. He was on the verge of striking him when the pungent scent of blood caught his attention, stopping him mid-swing.

The Immortal Elder went straight to Qianyin to check if she was hurt, as she was undoubtedly the most important among them. Qianyin smiled and spun around to show she was unharmed.

"Immortal Elder, check on me instead! What could possibly happen to her? I’ve been dragged along in such a severe state, I’m nearly dead, and they drove so slowly. Qianyin clearly wanted me to die," Old Master Mo complained, gesturing wildly, his eyes filled with a hatred that seemed to wish he could swallow her whole.

At these words, everyone stared at him in silence. Only then did Old Master Mo realize he had spoken out of turn. The Immortal Elder was furious. It seemed that what the others had said was true: there were indeed ingrates in the Mo family. Qianyin had gone to help save people before she had even fully recovered, and this was the thanks she received.

Old Master Mo tried to intervene, but the Immortal Elder stormed off to his room, returning with a heap of medicinal herbs. Glancing at Qianyin and Mo Lan, he said, "I’ll need to remove his clothes shortly. You two should go back to your rooms to rest; it’s not appropriate for you to watch."

Qianyin and Mo Lan nodded. It made no difference to them; they simply held hands and headed to their rooms to sleep. The person was saved, and whatever happened next had nothing to do with them.

An Feng felt the same way. It was no business of his, so he simply slumped onto the sofa, intending to sleep there. He should have been resting; he had only come to help the Mo family for Mo Lan’s sake, otherwise, the Mo family would have meant nothing to him.

Old Master Mo, having stopped speaking, cooperated as he removed his upper garments. The Immortal Elder cut away the torn section of his trousers, revealing the skin that had been scraped off on the ground—a mangled, bloody mess. He had clearly been in pain for a long time, and he had nearly bled dry.

The Immortal Elder crushed the herbs into a medicinal juice and brought a basin of clean water to wash the wounds first. Old Master Mo watched from the side, occasionally helping out while keeping a sharp eye on his son, his gaze silently warning him: *If you dare say another word to drive them away, see how you fare then.*

The Immortal Elder conscientiously tended to the injuries, having the man lie flat on the sofa. He carefully used a wet towel to clean the wounds before applying the medicinal juice.

The moment the water touched the raw flesh, Old Master Mo began to ache; the lukewarm water against the open wounds caused a stinging, damp pain. When the medicinal juice was applied, it felt to him like salt in a wound. He gritted his teeth to keep from crying out, his face flushing red, his eyes bulging—he looked to be in absolute agony.

Boss Jin, who had been sitting to the side like a silent observer, coughed a few times, stood up, and took his two bodyguards back to their rooms. He did not want to watch such a gruesome scene any longer, lest he have nightmares.

The scent of the medicine permeated the entire hall. The Immortal Elder washed his hands in a fresh basin of water, stood up to knead his aching lower back, and glared at Old Master Mo. It was all this old man’s fault—why did he always produce such useless offspring?

Old Master Mo didn't know what to say. If it hadn't been for these young people, his family estate might have been lost. Between his unfilial son and his unfilial grandson, what had he done to deserve this? Why had the Mo family become so turbulent lately?

"If you need fresh medicinal juice, come to my place every day to get some and grind it yourself. Apply it twice a day, and it should heal in about three days. Also, the consultation fee is ten thousand yuan. Cash or transfer?" The Immortal Elder was not being polite; he held out his hand toward Old Master Mo.

Since the Mo family had been saved, he intended to secure some funds for Qianyin and the others.

Old Master Mo looked at the Immortal Elder with a wry smile. They were so well-acquainted that talking about money felt like it would damage their friendship. He stepped forward, patted the Immortal Elder’s hand, and said, "I don't have money for you. Besides, we are such old friends, why bring up money?"

"Oh, we’re such old friends, are we? Then let me take that jade chess set that Boss Jin gifted you." The Immortal Elder would not be swayed; either pay up or hand over the item. He was done working for the Mo family for free. Qianyin had put in so much effort, and he hadn't seen her get any reward for it.

Old Master Mo fell silent. Glaring indignantly at the Immortal Elder, he stormed into the study, returned with exactly ten thousand yuan in cash, slammed it onto the table, and snapped, "Take it!"

Without a second word, the Immortal Elder gathered the money and headed toward his own courtyard. He hadn't cared about such things before, but now he had to save for Qianyin. As he walked away, a faint smile played on his lips. *This old man, he really is quite pathetic.*

The hall fell silent, suddenly feeling much emptier. Seeing his son still lying on the sofa in pain, Old Master Mo angrily slapped his son's shoulder. Old Master Mo let out an "Ouch!" and jumped up, the movement pulling at his wounds, causing him to let out a cry that sounded like a pig being slaughtered.

In their room, the two who hadn't yet fallen asleep heard the sound and exchanged knowing smiles.

The servants hurried in to check on the commotion. Old Master Mo waved his hand and told them, "Take your master back to his room. You are to look after him for the next few days; ignore everything else."

"Yes, Old Master," the servants replied, immediately helping the injured man toward his room. The man, in too much pain to argue and desperate to escape his father’s scolding, went along willingly.

An Feng had long since fallen into a deep sleep. Seeing that he was truly out, Old Master Mo fetched a quilt from a room, covered him, and then turned to rest himself. Back in his own room, the old man sat quietly at the table in the dark, the lights of the Mo residence finally extinguished.
