Chapter 135: Drunken Xiao Qi and Liu Fei

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2399 words 2026-04-01 06:56:27

The two individuals who had been disarmed were still in a daze. Through their hazy vision, they seemed to recognize An Feng. They pointed at him, exchanged a drunken smile, and muttered, "I think I see Captain An Feng."

"I see him too," the other replied.

An Feng cast a look of disdain at the pair, reclaimed his weapon, and, grabbing one with each hand, began dragging them directly toward the exit.

A bystander stepped in his way, asking, "Captain, who are these people, and how do you intend to handle them?"

An Feng frowned. This was a situation that required careful consideration. He didn’t intend to offer an explanation to these onlookers, but he realized that if they blocked his path, he wouldn't be able to leave while dragging two drunks.

"We have urgent business. I hope you will not block my way; I am a very busy man." Deciding that a cold, aloof demeanor was the best course of action, he continued forward, ignoring them. However, the man refused to budge, seemingly determined to get to the bottom of it.

"Isn't this the Chief’s niece? Is this how the great detective An Feng protects the reputation of the police department?"

Hearing this, An Feng’s eyes turned cold. It seemed these two fools had been exploited by someone with a hidden agenda; he expected to be in the headlines by tomorrow. The precinct was not a high-level one, and there were many superiors above them. The department was going to be dragged into disgrace by these two idiots.

An Feng stopped and executed a sharp, precise salute. His movements were agile and his posture steady, causing the onlookers to step back involuntarily. This was not a good sign; it was clear to anyone watching that the great detective was losing his patience.

"Correct, these are members of our department. They came here to drink during the day, and I admit that our supervision has been lax. Our department will take full responsibility for any damages, and they will be severely punished. If there is anything else, you may address it to me directly. If anyone has been injured, I can have you taken to the hospital immediately."

An Feng’s lengthy statement was a mixture of compromise, accountability, and a veiled threat. If these people lacked the sense to back off, he wouldn't mind sending them to the hospital for a few days, or perhaps taking them to the station to reflect on their actions.

A sudden silence fell over the crowd, and even the lights seemed to cooperate, ceasing their flickering. The onlookers kept their mouths shut, their eyes fixed on An Feng.

Seeing that no one dared to speak, An Feng realized this matter would have to be clarified by the Chief himself, and he would have to report to his superiors to accept whatever disciplinary action followed. There was no other way; after all, these two were the captain and deputy captain of another squad.

An Feng hauled the two of them toward the exit. The crowd watched in silence, not daring to step forward again, fearing that if they provoked him, they might end up on the receiving end of his gun.

One bystander kindly opened the door for him. An Feng offered a brief smile in return, then dragged the pair to his vehicle and stuffed them into the back seat.

With this, his original business regarding Mo Fan was delayed, but there was no helping it. An Feng drove quickly back to the station, still wondering how he would explain the situation.

Just as he was feeling agitated, the two in the back started chatting.

"Tell me, what is so great about Mo Lan? Why do you all like her?"

"She is beautiful and kind-hearted. Do you have any idea how many officers dream of her? How could they not like her?" Liu Fei said this with a foolish grin, imagining Mo Lan smiling at him.

An Feng’s lips twitched violently. Why on earth did these two go drinking during the day? Still, their conversation was intriguing. It was true—Mo Lan was beautiful, came from a good family, and was indeed kind-hearted.

"You will never possess her in this life. She belongs to An Feng," Xiao Qi said, sounding self-mocking. The comment was meant to tease Liu Fei, but it was really a reflection of her own misery. She loved An Feng, and who didn't know that?

"And you? You will never have An Feng either. I am quite content as I am now. Just seeing Mo Lan happy makes me happy. I’m not like you; you can’t let him go," Liu Fei retorted, hitting a sore spot.

Xiao Qi burst into tears, large droplets rolling down her cheeks. She looked both adorable and pathetic.

Liu Fei panicked, clumsily wiping at her face with his hands, muttering, "Don't be sad. We are both just miserable wretches."

An Feng, sitting in the front, didn't know whether to pity them or laugh at them.

They soon arrived at the Jin Police Station. An Feng dragged the two inside, and to his surprise, they offered no resistance—it was hard to tell if they were pretending to be drunk or truly were.

The other officers stared in shock at the great detective, looking stern and imposing as he hauled the two "drunkards" into the station. Upon closer inspection, they realized these were the captain and deputy captain of another squad, and they immediately rushed to report the incident to the Chief.

An Feng left them standing by a desk; if they fell over, he wasn't about to catch them. Other officers hurried over with glasses of water, trying to sober them up before the Chief arrived and inevitably unleashed his fury.

Xiao Qi and Liu Fei looked at the officers with glassy eyes, unable to recall names but finding the faces familiar. They pointed fingers and mumbled, "You... you are the one..."

"Captain, Deputy Captain, stop messing around and drink some water!" The officers finally managed to get them to drink.

When the Chief heard they had been drinking and were brought back by An Feng, his expression turned grim. This was a major taboo, and they had been in the force long enough to know the rules.

Walking in to see them surrounded by officers trying to feed them water, his face darkened further. He strode over, grabbed Xiao Qi, and demanded sternly, "What do you think you are doing?"

"Uncle, why are you here? Weren't we just at the bar? Why are there so many familiar faces? Did you go to the bar too?" Xiao Qi babbled, pulling at the Chief’s cheeks. The others stood by, not daring to utter a word.

The Chief glanced at An Feng, who was sitting nearby drinking water, and didn't dare to ask more. He barked, "Take them away and dunk them in cold water. Don't bring them up until they are sober."

"This..." The officers hesitated, fearing the repercussions of punishing the captain and deputy, especially since Xiao Qi was the Chief’s niece.

"What? Do you want to plead for them? Drag them away, now!" The Chief roared in anger.

The officers quickly hauled the pair away to be soaked. An Feng and the Chief were left alone in the office.

An Feng had no intention of covering for them. He took a sip of water, sighed, stood up, and looked the Chief in the eye. "They went to a bar to drink, got drunk, and started firing their weapons. Someone called the police, so I went and brought them back. You know how this needs to be handled."

The Chief’s brow furrowed even deeper. He would have to report this to his superiors and issue a public clarification. It was such a headache—what were these two thinking?
