Chapter 132: Xiao Qi Unburdens Her Heart

Hello, Detective Mu Linli 2394 words 2026-04-01 06:56:25

After waiting for quite some time and with Liu Fei still not back, Xiao Qi went out to look repeatedly. She didn’t want to stay with An Feng and Mo Lan there—it made her feel awkward and unnecessary. Eventually, she didn’t even want to go back inside and instead lay down outside the hospital wall, watching the scene within. Every doctor and nurse was extremely busy, and the hospital was crowded with patients.

The air was thick not only with the scent of various medicines but also with the breath of the patients. Even though the hospital courtyard was planted with many flowers and greenery, it couldn’t mask the pervasive smell of medicine.

Xiao Qi paced back and forth, feeling bored. From time to time, she glanced toward the stairway, until finally, she saw Liu Fei coming up carrying the medicine. She immediately took it from him and then went over to Mo Lan’s bedside.

Examining the medicine, she prepared to administer it directly, not intending to give Mo Lan a fever-reducing injection. After all, such injections contained many substances harmful to the body. Though the injections worked faster than the medicine, her priority was Mo Lan’s health, not waking her up immediately.

Xiao Qi handled everything with practiced ease, while the two others watching couldn’t understand what she was doing. Mo Lan, still unconscious, only felt a slight pain on her wrist before losing all sensation.

After testing, Xiao Qi felt the infusion rate was neither too fast nor too slow. She settled on that pace and sat down, glancing at An Feng before saying, “I’ll stay here to watch over her. Liu Fei, you go out with Captain An Feng—it's better for a man not to stay here.”

An Feng glanced at Xiao Qi, then at Liu Fei, nodded, and strode out briskly. He truly disliked being in the hospital; the atmosphere made him uncomfortable and uneasy.

Liu Fei glanced at Mo Lan lying in bed, the medicine drip steady, her complexion smoothing out and her breathing returning to normal. Only then did he speak, “You better make sure nothing happens to Mo Lan. Otherwise, you’ll regret it when I get back.”

Xiao Qi nearly jumped up in frustration, wanting to hit Liu Fei before tending to Mo Lan’s condition. But Liu Fei simply ran out, catching up with An Feng’s footsteps.

Xiao Qi quietly pulled back and stayed by Mo Lan’s side, watching her sleep with a heavy heart. She reached out to touch Mo Lan’s cheek, noting the smooth skin and fine figure—truly a first-rate woman with a good family background.

Instantly withdrawing her hand, Xiao Qi did nothing more, just staring intently at the closed eyes. She stood up, closed the door firmly, and returned to her seat. All her movements were light and quiet, careful not to wake the deeply unconscious Mo Lan.

Sighing softly, she clenched her fists and said calmly, “Mo Lan, do you know? I actually hate you very much.”

The only response was the silence in the room and the noise outside. Xiao Qi looked out briefly before turning back to Mo Lan and continued, “I really hate you. So many times I wanted to hurt you. Why do you have to be by An Feng’s side? Why do you always rub it in my face?”

Mo Lan remained silent, her eyes closed, resting quietly, deeply asleep.

Xiao Qi’s expression flickered between wanting to laugh and wanting to cry. “But you saved me. You’re so kind, yet why do I always feel like you’re against me?”

Tears traced down Xiao Qi’s face, falling silently, the only sound the soft drip-drop onto the floor.

“Honestly, I envy you. Why do all the men revolve around you? Liu Fei, I can understand—he’s been with you for years. But An Feng… Why does he like you? What’s so special about you? I’ve been with him for so long, but I’ve never seen him like me.”

Her voice choked as she spoke, afraid someone might overhear. She often glanced outside. Whenever she heard footsteps, she worried it was An Feng and Liu Fei returning.

In truth, An Feng and Liu Fei had gone out to eat something, drank some beverages, then packed each of them a favorite meal. Later, they stopped by a flower shop to buy a beautiful bouquet of roses.

Passing a fruit store, Liu Fei got out again to carry a lovely fruit basket before heading back to the hospital.

On their return, they encountered the young nurse again. The nurse’s eyes sparkled as if she found An Feng even more handsome than Liu Fei.

Liu Fei coughed several times. The corridor was crowded, and the nurse was blocking their way with her cart, refusing to move aside.

People around stopped to watch, some young women’s eyes filled with admiration. After all, they all knew this was Detective An Feng, famous far and wide.

Liu Fei felt overwhelmed by the flirtatious gazes, goosebumps rising all over him.

An Feng frowned and said coldly, “Please move aside.” Honestly, he disliked being surrounded like this—he even hated it.

“Can you give me your autograph?” The nurse placed her things down and rushed toward them. Liu Fei quickly stepped in front, using the fruit basket to keep some distance between them.

“Sorry, we’re in a hurry. Please move aside,” Liu Fei said firmly, blocking the nurse and urging An Feng to move forward. An Feng seized the chance and escaped.

Others, hearing the word “autograph,” also wanted one, but seeing An Feng rush off with the goods, their eyes blinked pitifully.

Liu Fei knew what they were thinking and immediately headed down the stairs, planning to take another route. After all, hadn’t they come to the hospital for a medical reason?

When An Feng returned, he found the door closed and grew worried. Without catching his breath, he kicked the door open with a loud bang.

Xiao Qi inside was startled as the door fell less than half a meter from her feet.

Feeling awkward, An Feng handed the packed meals to Xiao Qi and said, “Eat. Save one for Mo Lan.”

Though shaken, Xiao Qi quickly recovered, took the food, moved to the balcony, and began eating. This room was theirs for now; no one should disturb them. Look at how lucky Mo Lan was—someone like An Feng would buy her roses and remember her favorite foods.

Yet the more Xiao Qi thought this, the less she tasted the food. After a few bites, she lost her appetite, threw the rest into the trash, and resolved to wear a mask and eat outside in the cold wind next time.

An Feng placed the roses carefully, then sat beside Mo Lan, gently stroking her cheek. Her face was no longer flushed but pale and bloodless. What had she been doing since last night to fall so ill?
