Chapter 131: Nurse Xiao Qi
An Feng carefully settled Mo Lan into the car. He glanced behind him, feeling a flicker of confusion—why hadn't Dong brought Mo Fan along? Was he currently bullying Mo Fan? Still, his girlfriend was more important than a brother-in-law. He immediately stepped on the gas and sped toward the hospital.
Running several red lights along the way, he finally reached the nearest hospital. However, the facility was incredibly busy, and no one paid him any mind. He questioned nurse after nurse, and only after much effort did he manage to find an available doctor to attend to Mo Lan.
The doctor took Mo Lan’s temperature—39 degrees Celsius—and exclaimed in surprise, "When did this fever start? Did you really wait until it was this high before coming to the hospital?"
"I am truly sorry, Doctor. I didn't know. Please, treat her quickly." An Feng didn't know when the fever had spiked, but having suffered from high fevers himself, he knew how urgent the situation was.
The doctor wrote out two prescriptions and stood up. Scanning the room, he saw no available nurses. He frowned; he had many other patients to see, and without a nurse to assist, how could he set up an IV drip for Mo Lan?
"Hurry and get someone to help with the IV!" An Feng, unable to bear seeing Mo Lan in such a state while the doctor hesitated, spoke with a bit too much heat.
"I know she needs help, but the hospital is packed and there is no one available. You’ll just have to wait. Go pay the bill with these slips first," the doctor said helplessly, thrusting the papers into An Feng’s hand before striding away.
An Feng gripped the papers in frustration. He had to find someone to help. With one hand, he stroked Mo Lan’s forehead to gauge the heat, and with the other, he immediately called Xiao Qi, remembering she had once studied nursing.
Xiao Qi, who was out on patrol, was delighted to see An Feng calling, though she wondered why he would reach out so suddenly. It never meant anything good.
Liu Fei, seeing the expression on Xiao Qi’s face, knew exactly who was calling. There were no unusual incidents in the city center, and he was bored.
"Hello? What’s up?"
"I remember you studied nursing, right? Mo Lan has a fever, and there are no nurses here to give her an antipyretic injection or set up an IV. Can you come and help?" An Feng spoke urgently; this was a matter of life and death, and who knew if she’d be burned into a stupor if she stayed like this any longer.
Xiao Qi was stunned—few people knew she had a nursing background. After a moment’s thought, she replied, "Alright, I’m coming right away. Which hospital are you at?"
"The one near the city center. Hurry." An Feng hung up and waited, only then noticing the heavy, pungent smell of medicine and disinfectant. He frowned and opened a window, feeling faint and pale; the air felt stifling.
Xiao Qi heard the click of the phone hanging up. She looked at Liu Fei and said, "Your former captain has a high fever, and there’s no one to give her an injection. She’s at the hospital near the city center. Drive there now."
Liu Fei slammed on the gas and took a sharp turn, speeding off. Xiao Qi was shocked—with such a sharp turn at such high speed, was he trying to kill her?
She gripped her seatbelt tightly. She always felt that Mo Lan had a way of attracting men who were willing to sacrifice their lives for her, but she, Xiao Qi, was not one of them. *How much bad karma did I accumulate in my past life to owe Mo Lan so much that we are at odds everywhere in this one?* she thought bitterly, staring out the window.
Liu Fei drove like a madman. Several times they nearly collided with other cars, but his superior driving skills kept them safe. Xiao Qi felt as though she were on a death ride, her heart leaping into her throat.
"Hey! Watch the road! If I die, I can’t guarantee your Captain Mo Lan will be okay!"
Liu Fei glanced back at her, his eyes saying, *What did you say? Say it again.*
Xiao Qi lowered her head, not daring to provoke him. Since she wasn't the one driving, her life was in his hands; it was better to be obedient.
Every time they narrowly missed a tree or another vehicle, Xiao Qi’s heart tightened. She swore she would drive herself next time; she would never ride with anyone else, especially Liu Fei, again.
They finally arrived at the hospital. Xiao Qi wanted to rest, her legs feeling like jelly, but Liu Fei dragged her straight inside. The hospital was crowded, and being shoved through the throng made her face flush red.
*Can’t Liu Fei show any respect for others?* Xiao Qi fumed, wanting to curse his ancestors, but she held her tongue. She would remember this; one day, she would make Liu Fei pay.
When they reached the ward, they found An Feng sitting to the side, looking pale, while Mo Lan lay on the bed, her face flushed crimson. Xiao Qi quickly composed herself, looked around, and asked, "Where is the IV? She’s burning up—how can there be no one here to give her an injection?"
Liu Fei also scanned the room, but among the many people, he couldn't tell who the attending physician was.
An Feng weakly handed the two slips to Liu Fei. "Go pay the bill and pick up the medication. I’m not feeling well."
Liu Fei took the slips and ran off without even taking the money. After asking around, he learned the payment counter was in the main lobby, where the longest line was.
Xiao Qi watched An Feng. "What’s wrong with you? You look so pale—are you sick too?"
"I'm fine. Just hurry and get ready to help Mo Lan with the IV." An Feng looked away, pretending to watch the scenery outside. How could he tell his subordinate that he was prone to feeling faint in hospitals?
Xiao Qi went to the door and grabbed two masks. She put one on and handed the other to An Feng. "The smell of medicine is strong. Don't get sick from breathing too much of it. Here."
An Feng took it and put it on, finally feeling a bit better. He didn't feel like talking and didn't even thank her, just sat there, leaning against the chair.
Liu Fei found the line too long. Looking at the crowd, he wondered what to do.
He spotted a young nurse passing by and said, "Can you help me get some fever-reducing injections and IV fluids? A friend of mine has a very high fever."
The nurse, carrying a stack of supplies, looked at Liu Fei. Seeing how handsome and refined he was, she nodded. She led him to get the medicine and asked, "Do you need help? Is there a nurse with you? If not, I can help you."
Liu Fei waved her off, handed her the slips, and tucked 300 yuan into her hand.
The nurse was stunned—he hadn't paid at the counter! By the time she turned to look for him, he had already vanished.
