Chapter One Hundred and Twelve: Han Sends Qianyin Down the Mountain, Part Two
None of the assassins had imagined that the masked person was Thousand Sound, so Cold was able to escort her safely out of Wolf-Bear Mountain. Watching her retreating figure, he turned back with a helpless sigh.
He had just stepped through the gate of the base when several assassins surrounded him again. The boss glared at him in fury. Cold was slightly startled that the boss had discovered the truth so quickly. Had he used his power again?
“How dare you betray me?” the boss said angrily. He looked as though he might march up and beat Cold senseless at any moment. The other assassins could all feel his rage. Though none of them attacked Cold, disappointment showed in every gaze.
“I told you before, no one is to harm Thousand Sound. I am willing to accept whatever punishment you choose. Kill me, cripple me, do as you please.” Cold stood there ramrod straight, never once thinking of fighting back. He held to his principles, and had never considered betraying the boss.
“When did I ever hurt Thousand Sound? Isn’t she perfectly fine? Once I settle matters with Cold Blood, I could simply have you two marry her off, couldn’t I?” The boss was nearly livid. He truly admired Cold, or he would never have gone to such lengths to rescue him from that place.
Cold said nothing, merely standing there. Whether the boss’s words were true or false no longer mattered. He had already done what he wanted to do, and he was willing to accept any punishment.
The boss glanced at the road leading down the mountain and ordered the assassins, “After them.”
The assassins indeed rushed down the mountain. Thousand Sound was still very weak now; if they pursued with all their strength, they would surely catch up.
The boss looked at Cold and said in anger, “Go back and face the wall for two days. You are not to go anywhere. During that time, you need not concern yourself with anything.”
With that, he walked straight inside, preparing to go find Cold Blood. He needed to speak with him properly now. They could not afford to lose another talent. Cold had disappointed him terribly.
Cold said nothing. He returned to the spot where Thousand Sound had been sitting earlier, settled down quietly, closed his eyes, and leaned against the stone wall, intending to rest well and let himself finally relax.
He had done all he could. He only hoped heaven would bless Thousand Sound and keep her safe along the way. He prayed she would not be caught again by the boss’s people, and would not suffer any more harm.
Thousand Sound had been in too much of a hurry as she descended the mountain. She lost her footing and rolled down the slope. She came to a stop only when she reached the road, then lay there in the middle of the street.
The assassins who had chased after her saw her tumble down and hurry out onto the road, only to find her lying there. Since they did not want to expose their target, they hid one by one behind the trees to watch. If no one came, they would wait until nightfall before taking her back.
By sheer coincidence, Mr. Gold and his two bodyguards happened to be passing through on business that day. They saw someone lying below the road. Finding it strange, the bodyguards got out to take a look. The moment they pulled off the mask and discovered it was Thousand Sound, they were stunned. They immediately lifted her into the back seat.
Mr. Gold had been resting when he noticed a masked person suddenly beside him, and asked in confusion, “Who is this?”
“This is Miss Thousand Sound. We do not know why she collapsed on the road. We should leave at once; there may be people lying in ambush nearby.” After placing her in the car, the bodyguard drove off immediately.
When Mr. Gold heard that, he at once removed the mask to look for himself. It was indeed Thousand Sound. Her face was deathly pale, her lips devoid of color, and blood was still running from her forehead. She must have struck herself while rolling down from the mountain. There were also many scratches on her cheeks from branches. Mr. Gold felt a chill run through him. How could such a thing have happened? How could she be so badly injured?
The assassins on the mountain saw that she had been taken away. They thumped the tree trunks in anger, but there was nothing they could do. In the end, they had no choice but to retreat at once to Wolf-Bear Mountain, unwilling to be discovered by anyone. That was their base.
Meanwhile, the Flower Thief had found Little Seven and Willow Flight. This time, he had come specifically to leak a bit of confidential information so they would rescue Thousand Sound. He had never expected that Thousand Sound had already been released.
“Why are you here?” Little Seven did not know that the Flower Thief and the boss were in league with each other. She only knew that the man was detestable, and, more importantly, impossible to hand over to the police.
Willow Flight did not know the Flower Thief very well. He only knew that the man had some connection with Little Seven. So he drove off to patrol elsewhere, leaving the two of them behind. Little Seven shot an angry glare at his departing figure. That fellow had actually left her here.
“I came to tell you something. You know Wolf-Bear Mountain, don’t you? Thousand Sound is there right now. Go and find Ink Orchid and the others to save her, but do not mention to anyone else that I told you.” After saying that, the Flower Thief hurried off in his car, preparing to return to Wolf-Bear Mountain at once. He absolutely could not let anyone discover his whereabouts.
Little Seven was startled. Before she could even ask anything, the Flower Thief had vanished. As for Willow Flight, she did not know when he would be back, so she immediately called Peace Maple.
Peace Maple had been investigating a case when his phone rang. Irritated, he picked it up and saw that it was Little Seven calling. His impatience deepened. He did not want to answer at all, so he simply tossed the phone aside.
Only Peace Maple and Ink Orchid were in the police station. The ringing was too noisy, making it impossible to concentrate on work. Ink Orchid found it exasperating, so she picked up the phone and saw that it was Little Seven. She answered it on the spot.
“Hello.”
“I’ve got news. That guy who came to our police station last time found me and told me that Thousand Sound is now on Wolf-Bear Mountain. He wants us to go save her as soon as possible.” Hearing someone finally answer after waiting so long, Little Seven was both relieved and disappointed.
A smile appeared on Ink Orchid’s lips. At last, some good news. Could the Flower Thief be laying a trap?
“What are you doing? Are you even listening to me?” Seeing no reply, Little Seven grew a little dazed. What was wrong with these two? One refused to take the call, and the other answered without saying a word.
“I understand. Notify the other officers immediately and have them come back. We’ll hold a quick meeting and go rescue her at once.” Ink Orchid no longer hesitated. She had decided to save the girl. If the others at the station would not go, then she would go alone.
Peace Maple was quite satisfied that Ink Orchid had answered his phone, but hearing this conversation, he was somewhat surprised. Rescue someone? Had they found news of Thousand Sound?
Noticing his puzzled expression, Ink Orchid explained, “Little Seven said the Flower Thief came to her and told her that Thousand Sound is on Wolf-Bear Mountain. He wants us to get there and save her as soon as possible.”
“How could the Flower Thief be so kind as to bring us such confidential information himself? Is he not afraid of death?” Peace Maple immediately felt that this was a trap. They had searched for so long without finding anyone, yet the other side had come knocking at their door. No matter how he looked at it, it seemed wrong.
“Actually, the Flower Thief is a pretty decent person. The last time we fought, he always showed me mercy. And after knowing him for so long, he’s never done anything harmful to us, has he?” Ink Orchid retorted. She would not allow anyone to slander a good person like that.
“You want to save Thousand Sound, I know that. But you cannot be this blind. What if you walk straight into their trap?” Peace Maple was angry now as well. Did she really trust the Flower Thief, who was practically a stranger, more than she trusted him?
