Chapter One Hundred: Lin City, Part Seven
This group who had made their way backstage were not in a rush to hand over their money and collect their items. They intended to wait until the others had left, since this was a matter best kept secret. Too many witnesses could easily lead to leaks.
Han had been hoping for a chance to speak with Qianyin for a moment, but just then, several Black men entered from outside. Han recognized them immediately as Boss’s people; they were carrying several boxes of cash. Actual cash—over thirty billion in currency. The sheer amount was staggering.
Was Boss completely oblivious to the concept of financial security, not even worried about getting robbed?
Even the backstage crew couldn’t help but be tempted by the sight of such a fortune. None of them had seen so much money in their entire lives. Qianyin herself hadn’t expected the five and a half billion to arrive in cash.
“Our master gives,” said the man in the lead as he handed the money to Han. Han didn’t accept it, instead he glanced at the staff and signaled for them to step forward. The team carried over sixteen boxes in total.
The staff were astounded. Were they really expected to count it all?
Mo Lan felt as if she were dreaming. Boss Jin was truly wealthy—no wonder he was so generous. There was so much money, almost unimaginably so.
Boss Jin hadn’t anticipated that the other party would bring cash either. It was actually a bit awkward: if he simply carried it away, wouldn’t that mark him as the owner of the “Rainbow Jade”?
An Feng realized this problem and spoke up, “Let’s invite the bank staff here to handle this. Just transfer it directly to the client’s account—no need to carry so much cash out. Aren’t you worried about getting robbed?”
Everyone nodded in agreement. Boss’s people raised no objection; they hadn’t wanted to bring so much cash, but the other bosses insisted on withdrawing it to hand over to Boss, leaving him no choice.
Han had not yet spoken when the Boss’s lead man said, “We would like to meet the owner of the ‘Rainbow Jade.’”
The backstage crew, clearly understanding the situation, stepped forward and replied, “That may not be possible, as the owner of the ‘Rainbow Jade’ isn’t present today, and these funds will be transferred directly to their account.”
Boss Jin nodded in satisfaction. It seemed the staff were handling things better than expected.
Boss’s people frowned at this, and noticing Han’s displeasure, they stepped back and said nothing.
Han didn’t mind much. He just wanted to say a few words to Qianyin—was it really so difficult? Now that Boss’s people had arrived, he couldn’t approach her, nor could he seek her out after leaving.
The staff proceeded to deposit the money in the bank one by one. Once confirmed, they handed the “Rainbow Jade” to Han.
Han cast a lingering glance at Qianyin, then turned and left. The others followed suit. As they exited, Boss Wang entered. Upon seeing the crowd gathered there, his teeth gnashed in frustration at Mo Lan, but he had to step forward and greet Boss Jin with a smile.
“Boss Jin, are you planning to collect your payment here?”
Boss Jin said nothing, simply turned and left with his entourage. In moments, only Boss Wang remained. The staff ignored him, busy with their own tasks.
Boss Wang’s face flushed dark and red in anger. Why was everyone always involved with the Mo family? What was so special about them?
Mo Lan and An Feng, once back at the villa, lounged lazily on the sofa. No one was more delighted than Boss Jin—the day had been profitable, and now he could ponder how best to use his new batch of goods.
“Boss has come to Lindu—what do you think they want with the ‘Rainbow Jade’?” Mo Lan suddenly remembered and remarked, clearly the stone was of great importance to them.
“I suppose it’s to win people over,” An Feng guessed. Otherwise, what use was the jade?
Especially since they were from another world—what could they possibly want with a jade stone? Did they mean to take it back to their own world?
Cold-Blood and Qianyin shook their heads. She had never cared about such things; she simply wanted to collect the jade because it was beautiful.
Boss Jin didn’t understand any of this. The conversation bewildered him, and he had no intention of getting involved. If they needed his help, he would do his best, but otherwise he’d stay out.
While An Feng pondered, Han had returned to the bosses’ residence. Boss sat in the main seat, discussing matters with several others. The group followed Han, though he was clearly displeased.
Han said nothing, placed the item on the table, and interrupted their meeting outright.
Boss was baffled by Han’s anger. He glanced at the others, who all hung their heads in silence.
The Flower Thief didn’t dare speak up, fearing punishment.
“How much did you pay for it, to be in such a foul mood?” Boss liked Han, and in front of so many people, he was affable, never acting superior.
“Tell those people to stop following me. Are you worried I’ll steal your belongings?” Han said, then turned to leave without even a word of farewell.
At that moment, the Flower Thief’s admiration for Han soared anew. Clearly, Han held a special place in the master’s heart.
“How does he dare speak to you like that? Shouldn’t you punish him?” one of the bosses asked. Even they wouldn’t dare address Boss in such a way—did Han think himself above the rest?
“It’s fine. The item is here; how will you handle it?” Boss paid no mind, brushing off the incident.
The bosses saw that Boss truly didn’t care, so they nodded and opened the item. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
But with no researchers present, the jade had no immediate use. The other bosses simply admired it, passing it from hand to hand, until it finally reached Boss. He tossed it in the air, caught it, and played with it as if it were a toy.
The others’ hearts rose and fell with the “Rainbow Jade,” anxiety written on their faces. At five and a half billion, it was worth half their lives—they dared not treat it so recklessly.
“Don’t follow Han for a while. Give him some space. How’s the base coming along?” Boss appeared to address everyone, but in truth, he spoke to one.
“The base construction is complete. Big Brother has been troubled lately, so his temper has been poor. I hope you won’t take offense,” the Flower Thief replied, kneeling on one knee.
Boss nodded, waved the others away, then turned to the remaining bosses.
“You know where my base is—if you need to meet, go there. I hope you can find more partners.” With that, Boss grabbed the “Rainbow Jade” and walked out.
