Chapter 47 Calling the Police
Yun Chuxia let out a quiet sigh of relief.
If he was that tired, did it mean he wouldn't have the energy to do anything else?
Without raising his head, Si Yuchuan curled his knuckles and gently rapped her on the forehead.
"What bad ideas are you cooking up again?"
Their bodies were pressed close together, their faces very near. Turning her head slightly under the dim, warm bedside lamp, Yun Chuxia could even see the fine fuzz along Si Yuchuan's earlobe.
A clear, deep scent of cedar filled her nose, and her heart began to race wildly once more.
It was rare to see him looking so exhausted and vulnerable, which was rather heartbreaking.
Gently pushing him away, Yun Chuxia said in a soft voice:
"I'll go make you a midnight snack, shall we?"
Supporting his head with one arm, Si Yuchuan gazed at her for a brief moment, the corners of his long eyes curving slightly.
"Alright."
Pushing past him, Yun Chuxia stepped down and walked toward the kitchen.
Si Yuchuan's gaze followed her the entire way, direct and unmasked, before he finally took a long stride and followed her in.
She was lightly pinned against the counter as Si Yuchuan said in a deep voice:
"Did you change into a nightgown?"
A wave of heat rushed to Yun Chuxia's face, leaving her to frantically busy her hands with chores just to mask her embarrassment.
Feigning extreme busyness without actually accomplishing anything in particular.
"Um, bought a few new ones."
Heaven knows how enthusiastic the sales clerk had been when she was picking out sleepwear at the store, showering her with praise over her killer figure and, upon spotting the ring on her finger, enthusiastically recommending several styles of nightgowns that left very little to the imagination.
She had blushed while paying, putting on the most conservative one today, thinking Si Yuchuan wouldn't notice.
Suddenly, she found herself missing her fuzzy Mickey Mouse pajamas. At least those were genuinely warm.
As Yun Chuxia was rinsing the snow pears under running water, she felt a wave of heat radiating down her spine as Si Yuchuan pressed closely against her the entire time.
Quickly wiping her hands, she pushed him out:
"Stop making trouble, go wait outside."
Si Yuchuan didn't press the matter further, instead leaning lazily against a chair as he watched the busy figure moving about the kitchen.
Whenever Yun Chuxia turned around, she would catch his gaze through the glass.
Involuntarily, a different kind of thought bloomed within her—they truly looked like an ordinary, newlyweds couple living like this.
Pity that she had no idea who Si Yuchuan was really thinking of as he watched her.
Sighing inwardly, Yun Chuxia silently sped up her movements.
Just as she placed the snow pears into the stewing pot, a sudden flash appeared before her eyes as bullet comments, absent for a few days, began to scroll across her vision.
[Warning! Warning! The male lead is driving drunk to come find the second female lead.]
[He even abandoned the female lead at the party venue, and he's almost at the entrance of Yunlu Villa now.]
[The female lead is so pathetic, my heart goes out to her.]
[Forget it, you guys have no idea what she did recently.]
[Ahhh, does the male lead not know that the uncle has returned early? Is he about to crash right into a dramatic showdown?]
Yun Chuxia couldn't help but roll her eyes at these people who loved nothing more than a good spectacle. She felt around in her pocket, only to realize she had left her phone outside the kitchen.
When she walked back out, Si Yuchuan was sitting quietly, flipping through a book. The sharpness in his eyes had receded into a faint smile, making him look handsome yet distant.
Picking up the phone she had casually tossed on the table earlier, Yun Chuxia dialed a number without the slightest hesitation.
"Hello? Traffic police department? I'd like to report a drunk driver."
Hearing this, Si Yuchuan looked at her in surprise, utterly baffled by what kind of stunt she was pulling. How could she possibly know someone was driving drunk while cooped up in the kitchen all this time?
Clutching her phone tightly and pausing for a moment, Yun Chuxia spoke again:
"The location is right at the entrance of Yunlu Villa. Please dispatch someone quickly."
With the call ended, Si Yuchuan looked at her with deep perplexity in his dark brows as he asked:
"How did you know someone was driving drunk?"
