Chapter 23: The Female Lead Comes for the Supporting Character
In the end, Si Yuchuan went to sleep in the study. Yun Chuxia was perfectly happy not having to deal with him, so she focused on preparing her script for the next day.
A bottle of Romanée-Conti sat on Lu Yao’s desk. Peng Lei had delivered it early that morning. Always gentle and polite, he said that the President was thinking of his old classmate’s new project and had decided to provide some sponsorship.
Lu Yao scoffed, “That old man doesn’t even care about his own flesh and blood; what does he remember about an old classmate?”
It was all for Yun Chuxia’s sake. Why did this older man treat dating like raising a child, even going so far as to ask her, the “homeroom teacher,” for favors? Lu Yao shook her head and lit a cigarette. It was all so dull; young, handsome “puppy-dog” types were much more fun.
In truth, she had a bit of a headache. Her modest little temple was about to host two major deities today. Su Muxue, Si Haochen’s fiancée, had also arrived. The daughter of the Su family had sent word through others the night before, expressing with great sincerity that she had just returned from abroad and, knowing about the new program, wanted to offer whatever small help she could.
Naturally, Lu Yao had intended to refuse, but the woman insisted she wanted no salary—she only hoped to gain some experience and was even willing to serve as an understudy. Lu Yao had gripped her phone tight, her tone doing a complete one-eighty: “In that case, by all means, let’s get you some experience.”
She was a businesswoman, after all; if there was money to be made and clout to be chased, she would take it. With the new flame and the old love on the same stage, the original star and the stand-in competing in beauty, and both connected to the Si family—her new program was guaranteed to be a hit.
She just needed to make sure they didn’t tear each other apart. Or, well, if they did start fighting, as long as it didn’t end in serious injury, it wouldn’t be the end of the world. Rubbing her hands together, she decided to head to the dressing room to take a look.
Su Muxue finally saw Yun Chuxia in person. Standing at 172 centimeters, she had a curvaceous figure, striking and glamorous features, and a clear, pure gaze. She was a beauty. But they didn’t look alike at all; even their temperaments were entirely different.
Yun Chuxia raised her eyes. As expected, where the protagonist was, the "comments" followed.
[Finally meeting! Can they start a fight now? Just do it for me.]
[Get lost. Our heroine is gentle and lovely; she wouldn't do such a thing.]
[I’m so worried my girl will get bullied. This supporting role character is starting to look more and more like a villain.]
Yun Chuxia looked at herself in the mirror—bright eyes, pearly teeth, long lashes, and red lips. A professional makeup artist truly made a difference, perfectly highlighting her features to create the look of a bold, aggressive, high-impact beauty. In comparison, Su Muxue looked a bit lackluster.
[Oops, I’ve accidentally made a comparison.]
[Goodbye to the main group, I’m going to follow the supporting character’s arc from now on.]
[Spamming screenshots. The villain is killing it with her looks.]
[Hmph, I suggest you don't get too attached, lest you have nowhere to cry when she meets a tragic end.]
Su Muxue composed herself, walked up to Yun Chuxia, extended a hand in a friendly gesture, and smiled. “Hello, Miss Yun. I’m Su Muxue.”
Poised, generous, and perfectly mannered—she was indeed the heroine. Yun Chuxia had always been predisposed to like pretty girls. Although she loathed Si Haochen, Su Muxue had never actually done her any harm.
She stood up and shook Su Muxue’s soft hand. “Hello.”
Lu Yao pushed the door open to find this harmonious scene. Had she not known that this woman was desperate to squeeze her way in even without pay, she might have actually believed it.
“Chuxia,” Lu Yao said, trying to separate them, “President Gu has arrived. You can go and review the interview process with her first.”
Yun Chuxia nodded, picked up the materials on the table, and prepared to leave. She had worked hard on her research until the middle of the night, hoping to do a good job.
Su Muxue’s voice was calm. “I contacted President Gu before I came. She specifically wanted to be interviewed by me.” She looked at Lu Yao. “President Lu should know—our Su family and the Gu family are old family friends.”
