Chapter 16: A Change in Duties
“Then why me?”
Yun Chuxia was filled with confusion. The head of the Si family—why would he choose to marry her?
Wouldn’t the elders of the Si family be furious to the point of collapse if he married his former prospective niece-in-law?
Si Yuchuan said, “I do have other intentions, but I can’t tell you yet. You can also choose not to marry.”
“Marry!” Yun Chuxia answered immediately.
What a coincidence—I have my own reasons too.
Before she fully registered this, she was already holding two marriage certificates in her hands.
Comments flooded in:
[Main plot is boring, came here to see the supporting female lead. Why is she marrying the younger uncle?]
[Can any original fans explain? Did they have any connection before?]
[This storyline has changed way too much.]
[I found one: three years ago, when Yun Qingqing’s coming-of-age invitation was sent to the Si family, the younger uncle happened to be there…]
[What kind of connection is that? Just extra screen time for the supporting female lead. Judgment complete.]
Yun Chuxia silently rolled her eyes. They might as well blame everything on her.
She hadn’t done a single bad thing, yet she was taking all the blame.
After registering the marriage, Si Yuchuan rushed to the airport, saying he had urgent business in Port City.
Yun Chuxia politely declined Uncle Liu’s escort and quietly took the subway to Jiutian.
Lu Yao was already waiting for her in the office.
“I can’t hire you,” Lu Yao said straightforwardly, announcing the decision right away.
Yun Chuxia stiffened.
“May I ask why?” she inquired.
Lu Yao glanced at her. Although surprised, Yun Chuxia maintained the appropriate calm and politeness, earning a bit of her approval.
Lu Yao was not one to beat around the bush and said plainly, “Young Master Si made it clear that I can’t hire you as an assistant.”
Yun Chuxia clenched her fingers—Si Haochen again. Why did he haunt her so persistently?
“I know bringing you in was Young Master Si’s idea, but since he personally named you, it puts me in a difficult position.”
Yun Chuxia understood and didn’t want to make things hard for Lu Yao. After all, her entry into the company lacked proper legitimacy.
She straightened her back and said brightly, “It’s fine, I understand. I’ll leave now.”
A smile appeared on Lu Yao’s face.
Assistant Peng was naturally representing Si Yuchuan’s intentions. Over all these years as classmates, she had never seen that steadfast old friend care so much about anyone. Only a fool would dare put the woman he cared about right next to him as an assistant.
Could she really order her around?
While pondering how to politely get rid of this “Buddha statue,” Si Haochen’s call came in.
Though she had never liked Si Haochen, this time he inadvertently helped.
Judging by his tone, he didn’t seem to only love the Su family heiress as rumored.
It seemed Yun Chuxia had two Si family men tangled up with her.
Lu Yao studied her carefully.
Her long hair flowed like a waterfall, her features were delicate, she had a slender waist and long legs, and she naturally carried a charm that drew attention.
She was better suited for another kind of job.
“Look at your phone,” Lu Yao raised her device.
“You can’t be my assistant, but no one said you can’t stay at Jiutian.
This is a project we’re doing with Avocado TV. I’ve reviewed your resume. If you’re willing, you can give it a try.”
Yun Chuxia opened it, frowning slightly. “A program host?”
“The salary is twice what you were earning before,” Lu Yao stood and came to her side.
“Being hidden away won’t help. Since you’ve decided to step out, why not stand in the spotlight? What do you think?”
Yun Chuxia put away her phone.
“You’re launching a new online show and need popularity. Since I’m standing right at the center of the storm because of the Si family, you want to use my traffic?”
Lu Yao covered her mouth. “You caught me.”
Yun Chuxia’s eyes curved into a smile. “Five times.”
Lu Yao said, “Three times.”
Yun Chuxia turned on her heels in her high heels, her hand on the door handle, when a resigned voice came from behind:
“Fine, fine, five times it is.”
Lu Yao swallowed a big gulp of cold coffee in frustration. Just like Si Yuchuan, she was not one to take a loss lightly.
