Chapter 62 Picking a Quarrel
"Xiao Hang, aren't you being overly paranoid? No matter how powerful Yang Xuan is, he's still a mortal at the end of the day. What kind of waves could he possibly make?" another villager said.
"That's right, with so many of us here, what is there to be afraid of?"
"If you ask me, we should just use hoes and shovels to smash his head open and save him from causing any more trouble."
Everyone chimed in, all in favor of these suggestions.
Huang Yuhang frowned. He felt that he had still underestimated Yang Xuan's capabilities.
"Forget it. Since you uncles and elders are determined to do this, I won't try to persuade you any further," Huang Yuhang sighed. "However, I hope you all will remember my warning and not harm any innocent people."
"Haha, don't you worry about that. We aren't stupid; we won't cause any loss of life."
"Right, right, right. We just want to scare Yang Xuan a little."
The crowd agreed one after another with chuckles.
Just as they finished speaking, they saw Yang Xuan walking out. "The rituals are done. Is there anything else?"
"Uh... about that..." Huang Yuhang was instantly at a loss for words, not knowing how to respond.
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving first," Yang Xuan said coldly, turning around to walk away.
Huang Yuhang opened his mouth, but the words never came out.
"Yang Xuan, stop right there!" At that moment, the village chief suddenly shouted.
"Hmm?" Yang Xuan stopped in his tracks and turned to look at him.
"I reckon my wife's death has something to do with you!" the village chief said bluntly, following their original plan. "You killed my wife!"
"That's right! He's the one who killed her!"
"Yang Xuan, you better confess right now, or we will definitely not let you off!"
Hearing this, the villagers swarmed toward Yang Xuan, surrounding him in the center.
Yang Xuan's expression was gloomy. He had long suspected that the village chief and the others harbored malicious intentions.
"So what if I did? What if I didn't?" Yang Xuan retorted.
"If you did, you're coming with me to the station right now to make a statement!" The village chief stared at Yang Xuan through gritted teeth, as if he wanted to devour him alive.
"And if not?" Yang Xuan asked again.
"If you don't confess, don't even thinking about walking out of here today!" the village chief roared angrily.
"You wouldn't dare!" Yang Xuan stared at the village chief with a chilling gaze.
"Hmph! What is there that I wouldn't dare do?!" The village chief glared furiously at Yang Xuan. "You killed my wife, and today you must pay for her life with your own!"
Hearing this, the surrounding villagers began to clamor noisily.
"Take him away!"
"That's right, drag him back first!"
Several men immediately picked up tools like shovels and pickaxes and walked toward Yang Xuan.
Yang Xuan chuckled coldly. "Do you really think you can do anything to me?"
"You killed my wife, and even if it costs me my life today, I will get revenge for her!" the village chief proclaimed righteously.
Yang Xuan narrowed his eyes. He could sense that the village chief genuinely intended to send him to his death without a single shred of hesitation.
The villagers were no different, their eyes fierce and cruel.
Yang Xuan looked over at Huang Yuhang and saw him standing by with a detached, aloof expression, clearly throwing his full support behind the village chief's actions.
It seemed they had joined forces to put on a show just for him!
Yang Xuan smiled with contempt. "Fine, you win. However..."
"Do you really think you can trap me with this?"
"You—" Huang Yuhang's expression shifted drastically. "What do you mean?"
"What I mean is..."
"Get lost!" Yang Xuan said every single word with chilling finality.
In an instant, the expressions of the crowd froze as they stared at Yang Xuan in utter shock.
Yang Xuan actually... told them to get lost?!
Utterly and unfathomably arrogant!
Huang Yuhang flew into a rage, pointing straight at the bridge of Yang Xuan's nose and cursing him out.
"Yang Xuan, you're being way too full of yourself!"
"I'm warning you, if you know what's good for you, surrender obediently! Otherwise..."
Before Huang Yuhang could finish, Yang Xuan interrupted him coldly, "Otherwise what?"
"You'll live to regret this!" Huang Yuhang said through clenched teeth.
"Heh, go ahead and try right now. I'd love to see exactly how I'll regret it," Yang Xuan said indifferently.
"Fine! Since that's how you want it, I'll grant your wish!"
As Huang Yuhang spoke, he whipped out his phone and dialed a number.
Before long, several cars drove into the mountain village.
More than twenty burly men poured out in a single file, rapidly rushing into the courtyard.
These men wore black tank tops with bulging muscles, making it obvious at a glance that they possessed immense physical strength, and an aura of danger emanated from them.
The villagers instantly grew excited. "Captain Wang is here!"
"Hehe, let's see how he deals with this punk now."
"This kid actually thought he could escape; what an absolute pipe dream!"
The crowd began to gloat with malicious glee.
Yang Xuan swept his gaze around, finally letting it land on the man leading the group.
He remembered this fellow; it was the muscular man who had been with Huang Yuhang earlier.
Yang Xuan narrowed his eyes slightly, the corners of his lips curving upward.
Indeed, these bunch of fools were purely trying to frame him.
Captain Wang walked up to Huang Yuhang. "Yuhang, who laid hands on sister-in-law?"
"Him!" Huang Yuhang pointed at Yang Xuan.
"Oh?" Captain Wang followed the direction of the finger, his gaze instantly turning sharp.
"It's him!" Huang Yuhang said through gritted teeth.
Yang Xuan remained silent, simply watching Captain Wang quietly.
A flash of cold malice crossed the depths of Captain Wang's eyes, and he began striding toward Yang Xuan.
"Buddy, you've got some nerve! You even dare to touch our people, looking to die?" Captain Wang sneered.
"Who do you think you are?" Yang Xuan asked calmly.
"My last name is Wang," Captain Wang said with a mocking smile.
"Wang?" Yang Xuan raised an eyebrow. "You really do look like old Wang from next door."
"What did you say?" Captain Wang's face twisted hideously as he cursed viciously, "Are you tired of living, you bastard? Believe it or not, I'll finish you right here!"
Yang Xuan shook his head. "I don't believe it."
"Damn you!"
Furious and exasperated, Captain Wang raised his leg and kicked straight at Yang Xuan.
Yang Xuan's gaze turned chillingly cold as he directly summoned the cleaver-wielding little ghost and met the attack head-on.
Clang—!
A piercing sound of metallic impact rang out.
The others couldn't see the cleaver-wielding little ghost and assumed Yang Xuan had done something himself.
The next second, a streak of blood splattered through the air, and Captain Wang shrieked as he clutched his right leg, stumbling back several steps with an expression of agony.
"Captain Wang!" The expressions of everyone present changed drastically as they rushed forward to support him.
"Useless trash!" Huang Yuhang roared with extreme fury. "What are you even good for? You can't even handle a wet-behind-the-ears brat!"
"Yuhang, this kid is weird!" Captain Wang said, enduring the intense pain. "He's very strong, not an ordinary person!"
"Strong?" Huang Yuhang wore a look of utter mockery. "I think he's just putting on a front!"
"Captain Wang, don't be afraid. Let's all go together! Even if he has three heads and six arms, he won't escape death today!"
"That's right, I refuse to believe he can pull off any tricks against all of us!"
The others echoed the sentiment. With so many of them attacking together, surely they couldn't lose to a mere punk?
"All of you step back, I'll deal with this kid myself!" Captain Wang waved his hand, signaling the crowd to retreat.
"But..."
