Chapter 59 The Truth of the Matter
Perhaps because the earlier commotion made him suspect someone might be nearby, he did not dare to continue what he was doing.
This allowed Fatty to finally let out a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, Yang Xuan had already quietly emerged from his hiding spot.
"This should be the Huang Family Village, and their ancestral tombs are right around here," Yang Xuan said, pointing to a hill not far away. "The Yin energy here is extremely heavy. I'm afraid the deceased of the Huang Family Village are all buried near this place."
"Since that old man has already left, we can consider moving to another spot."
Yang Xuan nodded and led Fatty around toward a different direction.
"Brother Xuan, where are we going?" Fatty couldn't help asking.
"The Huang Family Village is where the villagers gather, and there are a few houses over there. We can head to that side first, and when the night is deep and quiet, we can scale the wall to get inside and look for clues, especially regarding those three men from yesterday."
He didn't dare to visit the village chief's house just yet, as they might have already grown vigilant.
Tonight was the only time they had, since tomorrow they were scheduled to meet Huang Yuhang as agreed.
"Oh, right!"
Fatty suddenly understood.
What they needed most right now was to confirm whether there were any clues hidden within the Huang Family Village.
Thus, taking advantage of the night, the two of them hurried toward the east of the village.
Yang Xuan had an exceptional memory and expertly led the way to a courtyard.
It was an ordinary farmhouse courtyard with nothing particularly unusual about it, looking completely normal on the surface.
"Brother Xuan, are you sure you got the right place?" Fatty asked suspiciously, finding this village unnatural no matter how he looked at it.
"My memory is good; I definitely won't remember wrong," Yang Xuan said with certainty.
"Yet I always feel like something is staring at us."
Fatty swallowed hard, speaking with lingering fear.
"Is that so? How come I didn't notice?" Yang Xuan put on an oblivious expression and lifted his foot to walk inside.
Seeing this, Fatty hurriedly followed.
The courtyard gate was not locked, so the two of them pushed it open and entered.
The courtyard was completely empty, with nothing inside at all.
Yet Fatty still felt a chill running down his spine.
"Brother Xuan, why do I suddenly find this village so spine-chilling?" Fatty said with a trembling voice. "I'm scared; I don't dare stay here."
Yang Xuan frowned and turned his gaze toward the room beside them.
"Fatty, you should head back first. I'll look around a bit more." After a moment of contemplation, Yang Xuan decided to act alone.
After all, with the Invisibility Talisman on his body, even if he did run into some unexpected danger, he wouldn't be completely helpless.
"Alright, then be careful," Fatty said, feeling slightly relieved upon hearing Yang Xuan's words. "Make sure you don't wander too far."
With that warning, Fatty slowly retreated.
Not long after Fatty left, Yang Xuan suddenly felt a wave of icy Yin energy wash over him.
A bone-chilling cold instantly spread through his entire body, causing Yang Xuan to shiver involuntarily.
"Who's there?"
Yang Xuan snapped his head around.
A breeze swept past, rustling the leaves.
Aside from that, the entire village was frighteningly silent.
"Cleaver Ghost Boy, come on out." Feeling somewhat apprehensive, Yang Xuan decided to summon his ghost servant, the Cleaver Ghost Boy, to keep him company.
Although he wasn't entirely sure of the Cleaver Ghost Boy's strength, having it around gave Yang Xuan a greater sense of security.
"A-pu a-pu~" The Cleaver Ghost Boy waved its rusty kitchen knife and giggled.
Empowered slightly, Yang Xuan scanned his surroundings, but saw nothing out of the ordinary.
"Could I really be overthinking it?"
Yang Xuan shook his head, banishing the distracting thoughts from his mind.
Immediately afterward, his gaze fixed upon a wooden window.
Yang Xuan walked straight up to it, pulled a yellow paper talisman from his pocket, pasted it onto the wooden window, and ignited it with a fire starter.
Having finished this, Yang Xuan quietly pulled the window shut and returned to the courtyard.
This time, he did not leave immediately, but instead waited for the right moment to arrive.
The night grew darker, and the village remained utterly still.
Suddenly, under the moonlight, a blurred shadow appeared, and something seemed to be slowly approaching.
Yang Xuan held his breath and concentrated, keeping his eyes locked on the dark shadow.
The shadow gradually took the shape of a girl. She hesitated in place for a long time before finally moving her feet and walking toward Yang Xuan.
"Are you... Huang Erya?" Yang Xuan frowned. This ghost looked somewhat similar to Huang Daya.
"Mm." A cold voice came from the spirit.
"Did you die an unjust death?" Yang Xuan asked.
"More or less," the girl lowered her head, her voice tinged with sorrow.
"Do you want revenge?" Yang Xuan asked. "If you are willing to cooperate with me, I can promise to help you reincarnate."
Hearing this, Huang Erya raised her head, a miserable smile crossing her face. "I've already ended up like this. Can I still reincarnate?"
Yang Xuan fell silent. Huang Erya's fate was indeed tragic. Her soul was severely damaged, making reincarnation impossible without someone to perform a ritual of deliverance.
"Actually, I should have died long ago. To protect me, my older sister was humiliated and beaten to death. I hate it, I resent it! I hate how cruel this world is to the weak! I hate those heartless beasts who bully women! I hate myself for continuing to live..."
Huang Erya's tears fell, her face contorted with pain.
Perhaps this was a pain only she could truly understand.
"I will give you the time it takes for a stick of incense to burn. Tell me everything you know," Yang Xuan pressed his lips together. "I can help you fulfill your wish."
"Really?" Hearing this, Huang Erya's eyes instantly lit up with a glimmer of hope.
"Yes," Yang Xuan nodded, signaling her to continue.
"I want to kill Huang Yuhang!" Huang Erya said, gnashing her teeth. "It was Huang Yuhang and his scoundrel friends who raped me and my sister, and then, fearing we would call the police, they murdered us to cover it up."
Yang Xuan frowned; the beginning and end of this matter matched his speculations quite closely.
"I am very weak right now and not suited to take action. Can you help me?"
Huang Erya looked at Yang Xuan with anticipation. Everything was brought upon them by Huang Yuhang, and she hated that beast to the core!
"Alright, I promise you," Yang Xuan did not refuse, because this was also her wish.
Huang Yuhang had killed two people, so he must pay the price.
"Thank you." Huang Erya bowed deeply.
"Hurry up and tell me everything you know."
Huang Erya wiped the tears from her face and calmed her agitated emotions.
Gathering her thoughts, she began to recount the tale.
"That night, my sister and I were getting ready to sleep. But as soon as I lay down, Huang Yuhang broke in with his gang of good-for-nothing friends. They humiliated me right in front of my sister, and finally robbed me of my chastity!" Huang Erya gritted her teeth, filled with burning hatred.
"To protect me, my sister was beaten by those men until her legs were snapped, and she passed out..." Huang Erya closed her eyes, struggling to suppress her fury. "Later, Huang Yuhang threw my sister into a mountain ditch, leaving behind not even a corpse to be found... I was luckier, someone found my body."
By this point, Huang Erya was already sobbing uncontrollably.
Her frail form trembled all over.
